Clearwater Country Club
About
Located just minutes from the beach, the conveniently situated Clearwater Country Club sprawls across a coastal landscape of Spanish moss-draped trees and towering, mature oaks. Stevenson Creek meanders through the golf course, coming into play on six holes. Built in 1920, the layout has a traditional design that is challenging but fair. The course is tight but it plays long, especially on the par 5s. The rolling fairways are well manicured and the greens play at medium speed and are consistently well maintained. Clearwater C.C. actually has a reputation amongst locals for its superb conditions. It is also popular with visitors, snowbirds specifically, since the club offers the area's only seasonal and short-season membership with exclusive privileges. It is also one of the few clubs in the area that allows walking.

Solid Course
Solid course with some challenging holes and greens. Overall, course was in good shape and the greens rolled well. Pace of play was not an issue, and the staff were all friendly. Definitely will
Be back when I’m in town.
Lots of entitled locals play here.
Saw John Daly on the course and had a brief chat, which was kind of cool. The staff was very friendly and accommodating (I showed up 2 hours early for my tee time due to a personal appointment canceling on me, and they worked me in, which they did not have to do). Pretty small and fast greens, which make an otherwise routine track a little bit tougher. It only plays about 6,200 yards from the tips. There are a few holes where local knowledge would serve you well. Glad I played with some guys who know the golf course.
Only real negative: Teed off with three other players, none of whom I knew. All nice gents. We had 2 or 3 open holes in front of us when we went off the first tee, so there must have been some cancellations or no-shows. Coming off the 16th tee box, one of the guys behind us (in a five-some) complained to me that we had a wide open golf course in front of us and we were holding up two five-somes. I pointed out to him three things. 1: They should not be playing in groups of 5. 2: I had our pace of play timed in just under 4 hours (not bad for a Friday afternoon). 3: I would be happy to go to the pro-shop with him and listen to him complain about playing in under 4 hours.
Leave it to one big mouth to ruin an otherwise enjoyable day on the course.
If you play here you can expect to meet some of these guys, as it appears the golf course must love them for some reason to let them go out in 5's.
5 some?
All was good until we ran into a fivesome playing slowly. Had to quite after 10 holes.
Tee time meant nothing
Despite our reservation 4 groups went off in between our scheduled tee time and when we actually teed off. When we finally started 40 minutes late we were paired with an older couple who, though very nice, had to hit 3-4 shots per out every one. Horrible pace of play and tremendous waste of money. Wanted to walk off several times
SLOW SLOW SLOW PLAY
Too many non golfers,no ranger to keep things moving, nearly a 6 hour round, that ruins a round of golf for me.
Awesome course!
🏌️♂️ Course Review: Clearwater Country Club 🌟
Hey everyone, just wrapped up a round at the renowned Clearwater Country Club, a course that boasts a member list including the likes of John Daly! Here’s my take:
🔹 Layout Quirks:
The course’s layout is one of a kind, with some holes so closely packed that large metal fences separate tees and greens for safety. This feature was definitely appreciated, especially when an errant approach shot from the group behind me nearly turned my round into a close call!
🔹 Condition:
The course condition was top-notch. The greens rolled true and were well-maintained, offering a fair speed - not too fast but far from slow. The fairways were in good shape, and although the rough was a bit on the thinner side, it still provided enough of a test.
🔹 Value for Money:
In terms of value, Clearwater Country Club hits the sweet spot. For what you pay, the quality and experience you get are more than worth it. It’s a fantastic deal for golfers looking for a quality round without breaking the bank.
🔹 Walkability:
Many golfers choose to walk this course due to its compact nature. Not only does this add to the enjoyment of your round, but it’s also a nice little saving on cart fees. Perfect for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll between shots.
🔹 Playability:
At 6200 yards from the tips, it’s not the longest course, but it’s no walk in the park either. Strategic water hazards make you rethink pulling out the driver on several holes, adding a nice tactical layer to the game.
🔹 Overall Impression:
Clearwater Country Club is a course that balances challenge with fun. It’s ideal for golfers who value precision and enjoy a strategic game. And with the course being so compact, it’s a great place to enjoy a walk and soak in the surroundings.
Good course, slightly over priced
Course was in good condition. No complaints. Good challenge for beginners and higher to mid handicaps. The main complaint is the rental clubs. Cheap Wilson rentals that made the round more difficult. Travel for work and found a day off to golf and was hoping based on green fees, the rental clubs would be a little more updated and modern. I’ll probably start traveling with my own clubs but I’d avoid renting them unless you don’t mind or have specific preferences
Good Public Course
It’s a decent public course that offers good value during the offseason, but not necessarily during snowbird season when they hike up the rates. Also the course moves much more slowly during tourist season. That said, it’s got some nice holes. It’s good enough for John Daly, who I’ve seen here a few times.
Improving
The condition of the course has improved. There are some congested corners where you need to be alert, but that’s part of the charm too.
They’re constantly overbooked
Tee time was for mid afternoon. Didn’t tee off until 50 minutes behind my tee time. Would’ve played 18 but it was dark by the time 9 was over. Need more carts or to book less times so the course isn’t overwhelmed.
Just bad
From start to finish. It wasn’t a good experience. I arrived 15 minutes before my tee time. The starter was flabbergasted. Guy looked like his head was going to explode. I was told to go straight to the tee box. There were two groups in front of me on the tee box. Waited 25 minutes to tee off….. took 5 hours to finish. No rangers. Can’t believe people pay for memberships here.
Slow
Good day only thing when you call for tee time they should tell there was a big tournament and play was going to be backed up by 30 minutes and you have to wait for a golf cart
No you havent he doesnt live here
