course is great, attitude terrible
Got there on time for our starting time and were told no outside food or beverages allowed, including water. We saw the beverage cart once in 18 holes, water on the course tasted like chlorine,
The 10th hole is in the middle of the course so there was no way of getting back to the club house.
The starter and ranger we adamant about playing in 4HOURS, The starter even gave us a hard time after the one beverage cart stop that we were falling behind.
ARE YOU KIDDING. This is Florida heat on vacation mode. I don't need to be hassled by a ranger when I am playing with experienced players.
If they don't want outside players don't advertise on golf now.
We played in the Fort Myers area all week, and this was the worst we were treated period.
There are many nice courses around, don't waste your time here.
2nd time was even bettter....
Since my first review, I took the time to read some others and I am in complete disagreement with those that complained about being harassed about the pace of play. Admittedly did not play the Machismo tees but moved up one to the #2 tees that are sloped at 138 and have a par rating of 72+. It plays about 6600 from there and our 4some did it in 4 hours and 5 minutes, with all scoring at or under our < 10 handicaps.
As for the staff, one of the best in SW Florida. Said it n the other post and I will say it again. I personally enjoy the Oaks course over the Orange course but having played both in a two week period they are equally groomed and you can't miss on either one when the reopen the Oaks after they maintenance break.
Lesser quality of the two tracks!
Our preference would have been to play Old Orange, as it is the better (much) of the two tracks at Verandah, Whispering Oak provides an enjoyable (just okay) experience, as it is set in somewhat of a less visually appealing environment. As this is an affiliated club as part of the Pacific Links Golf network and the price was too good to pass on, especially during high season, we designated to play the Whispering Oaks course. Oh well, maybe next time!
Longball
Enjoyable round. Course in nice condition. Greens small and tricky have to really concentrate on the line.
Underwhelming
Although I most of the reviews for Whispering Oaks are above average, I found it no better than average. The course conditions were good and greens rolled true, but the design variety was boring. I've played lots of courses in the area and this course does not distinguish itself from others. It may be a Nicklaus, but you could only recognize 1/3 of the greens and a few holes as Nicklaus. Would play elsewhere for the money.
Amazing
From the staff to the course 5 star. This is a must play!
Great Course
Course is in great shape right now with a nice variety of holes. Wide fairways but a miss in certain spots will leave you with a obstructed second. Greens are challenging. Overall one of the top courses in the area. Highly recommend!
Great opportunity!
This course is great to play! Enjoyed a round on Wednesday, scheduled a 2nd round for Thursday while on the 12th tee box! Played in 330-4hrs both days. Great course, fantastic conditions. Once you know where to hit it, a course you can score on. Play the correct tees! Lots of options.......have fun!
Nice Course
I've played Verandah numerous times - I always find it a tricky but fair test. Generous fairways and not overly long - but tough greens with defined shelves/targets. The course was in as-good-a-shape as I'd ever seen when played in August - fairways were lush and the greens were excellent - although I wish they cut them a little quicker. Starter is always friendly. There really isn't a signature hole, but overall - a very nice course in SW FL.
Monotonous but great shape.
Great shape and great staff. Layout monotonous- many holes look the same. Still worth it.
A Gem
What a fabulous course. Generous fairways and testing greens. A must play if you're in the area.
definitely one to revisit
This is one of the nicest courses to play - great set up and was nice and quiet - would love to play this one again when we return to the area.
greens were a nice speed and course in great shape
Great course, Great value
Since my wife and I started playing golf together and traveling, I have really started paying attention to the reviews people leave. This is the first one i have ever left because this place deserves it! We almost passed on playing here because of so few reviews! That would have sucked for us!
This course is FANTASTIC!! the fairways are perfect and wide enough to forgive a slightly errard shot. Green were soft and fast. You could put from 6ft-8ft off the green. Tee boxes and sand trips were well taken care of as well. It was a very hot day but were well taken care of by the cart girl we saw 4 times in our round and by the restrooms on the course that hard ice machines and water.
Do yourself a favor and play this course, but remember to take your plastic because the don't accept cash!! Yeah, not even the cart girl.
Verandah
Great course. Greens are fast and fair. Fairways are wide and the rough is short
Excellent course
We played the course every November the last 5 years, the conditions especially the greens are outstanding. What changed this year, is that guests are obviously 2nd class subjects. It is a private club though so mayb understandable. We booked originally a 12:09 teetime. Then we got an email that we got set back to a 12:36 teetime. In this time of the year that matters especially as we had to play behind very slow clubmembers that lost the group in front. No marshall to see! So it was nearly sunset as we finished. That was not that nice. Other people from canada we met this holidays told us they experienced it the same severall times now. Booking an earlier teetime get confirmation and finally had to play later. Unacceptable. Its sad as we love (!) this course.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review-we appreciate the feedback. We sincerely apologize for the change to your tee time. Our guests take the same precedence as our members and we apologize if we did not give that feeling. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly if you have any other questions or concerns.
