Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

A great day
Could ask a better day, hot yes, this August. The.course was in great shape, first time there. The layout beautiful and I am ready to try it again.
The whole experience was fantastic
The course was in beautiful condition and the greens were the best I've seen all summer. Challenging but fair, I would play this course again.
HIT IT STRAIGHT
Couldn't rate the course 5 stars because the greens were recently punched and collars verticut. That being said the putts rolled reasonably true and semi fast. There's a lot of bunkers to capture your ball both off the tee and greenside. Also quite a bit of water. I'd definitely play it again!
Plays fair. Lots of water
The course plays fair. Easier the second time. Sometimes you hit and after riding to your ball find there was a feature you should have been aware of. Greens not quite as fast as I would like.
Terribe experience sorry,but true
The biggest problem was that the greens were aerated and sand all over and almost impossible to putt. We were very disappointed that we had not been told about the newly aeration and would not have played if we had known. We have played the course before and was very happy. This was not one of our best times and it was a father's day gift disappointing at best,
A great layout where you will use most of the clubs in your bag.
We played early and finished in 4 hours. Conditions were very good albeit they had just punched the greens that week so the greens were bumpy and sandy. A good time was had by all and new friends were made.

I loved this track. It is in great condition and fairly challenging!
The one thing I didn't like was that the group I was paired with was very slow our round almost took 5 hours.. but what can you do.

One of the Best courses I've ever played. Played in 6 countries.
The course was extremely well maintained with beautiful views (especially at the finishing hole). The young lady in the clubhouse was perfect, however the bag guys did not seem very helpful. They were not rude.....just not very customer oriented.
Great Club Course to play immediately after season...
The Colonial staff and community take great pride in their course. The front nine is fairly forgiving with ample landing areas, but the back nine narrows and is challenging. Had a great time.
This course is a difficult course
Enjoyed the day and would diffently book this course again.I look forward to improving my score every time i play.
Fairways are pristine and greens had a nice speed.

I would recommed this course to anybody for a great day of golf.
Great condition and quite challenging
The course is in great condition and although the greens had been sanded they ran pretty true. There are many challenging long holes here but also some shorter par 4s such as the last where you need to think carefully about shot selection. Not very busy (May 13) as its the off season so got round in under 4 hours.
Great Deal
Wow---Golfed 5/18 and what a deal!!!!!!!! Go if you can. 30-40 bucks is a steal for a course in great condition--esp this time of year---plenty of drinking water along course--cart ,range balls--nice putting and chipping green. greens rolling about a 11 and smooth--fairways well kept --good layout--played all the way back at 7600 yards--challenging---back nine gets a little tighter than front---ponds are low so water doesnt come into play much even from the backs--or I should say they shouldnt come into play for most part---friendly staff--clean place--overall one of better all around facilities/course in whole tri-county area. Only a couple minor faults--not enough pine down in waste areas--maybe space out par 5's and long par 3's somehow--flip side though ---first 3 holes allow you to get into your round---besides that GO GO GO!!!!!!!!

Driving range, awesome layout
This course is in excellent shape. It is very challenging, must bring your A game. played from the blue/whites tees which I have never seen before. Great course and driving range, One of the best course I've played in Southwest Florida.
