Colonial Country Club
About
Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Reviews
Hawsome
This course is wonderfull. He is quite tough with a lot of water, but a very good challenge.
Excellent layout and great shape!
Played a shotgun start and really enjoyed the course! For those who like to play quickly, this is your place.....they keep you moving(which I like)!
Good course but starter was horrible
Played this course at 954 and got there at 830 to hit some balls and practice . The started called everyone but our group and then when noticed it was time to go over to tee box we stopped to get a drink at snack bar as he told us there wouldn't be cart girl on the course till later . So stopped and got mixed drinks and he started yelling cause the girl in snack bar took a long time to make them . Started acted like we were the ones slow . Also while waiting at snack bar group behind us came up saying "you guys better play fast we will be right on your backs" . Other then that course was awesome !
Good value for price we got
Course is in great condition, nice layout, and staff was very friendly. Only drawback was we were sent out as a 2 and the foursome ahead of us wouldn't let us play though even though they were 2 holes behind. Ranger let us know they were notoriously slow but it was ridiculous. Watch them hit every shot.
Colonial Golf
We're not members but they offer play in the off season. Colonial is a very nice course and gives me a good challenge. I wish the scorecard had a graphic showing the course since there are a few blind holes. A very fun round and excellent conditions.
Great Southwest Florida Course
This course has more water around than any others you can play. Fabulous conditions and a real challenge for the Blue Tees. Plenty of teeing options for all levels of players. Rangers are somewhat over the top as we made the turn as a foursome in 1hr 52min and 2 holes into the back nine the ranger was considering giving us a yellow flag which apparently is a bad thing??? If you can live with the constant ranger observations it is a great course.
Excellent course
The course is in great shape. Play it now before it closes to outside play Jan 1st
Real quality of private golf course
Excelent golf course condintion and service. Marshals doing excelent job keeping pace of playing. Fast and chalanging greens.
Colonial Must Play
This course is a must play in SWFL. Only open to the public May-Dec. Impeccable greens, phenominal condition...great value at $65. members of this club should be extremely proud...MUST PLAY!
Good price good condition good time
Starters kept pace at four hours and conditions were what you would exspect .Great price for a very nice course .
Colonial the Great
An outstanding private course that you can only get on in the "out of season" months. Play it often whenever you can - it's a great layout and conditions are always superb.
Great value
Course was in great shape wind was blowing 20 mph tight fairways still managed to break 80 lots of fun
Perfect course
Great to play there, true greens, perfect fairways and tees, nice layout. We enjoyed it.
Beautiful place to play
One of the best places we played. Will come back soon.
Great course, great layout fun to play
Had never played this course before, great course and layout, great value, friendly staff.played with a couple of members really helpful on course.would recommend to play.
This is a great course
Colonial is a first class course in every respect. We have played many courses in the Fort Myers area, but this is my favorite.
I look forward to returning now, and in the future
Beautiful course!
Colonial is my favorite in Fort Myers!
Course in great condition
Beautiful course and very friendly staff. Only issue was we had to wait after the turn due to 2nd half of a league teeing off in back nine. Finished front 9 in 90 minutes then had to wait 20 minutes to tee off. Then waited in every hole thereafter. (Women's league)
Excellent course
Again the course was in perfect condition, only greens little sanded and thus slow. Range area is under construction and the range was already closed at 5pm. Altogether a very nice day of golf at Colonial CC!
Beautiful Course
Beautiful layout with some challenging holes. Design is one of the best in this area. Hilly fairways and well positioned bunkers make this course a fun one to play.
Will definitely be back.
