Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Great course with in excellent condition. Played the Blue/White tees which offered a good balance. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Excellent value!

What a great course! Excellent fairways, consistent greens and well manicured all the way around. Was paired up with three locals, all fine gentlemen who helped me navigate the course. Practice facilities were awesome. A great help for every facet of the game. Can't say enough. Just go play here!
Colonial
The course is in great condition, but the pace of play was very, very slow. At one point there were 5 groups waiting on a par 3. It took us over 30 minutes to play that single hole.
I played the course two consecutive days and both days the round took almost 5 hours.
My overall rating would have been much higher if the pace of play were better.

The staff was very friendly and the course was in fantastic condition. We finished our round in 4 hours.

Excellent course only problem was my guest had on cargo shorts which they did not allow and he had to buy a pair at $54.

It has been some time since I played Colonial, I was looking forward to getting back . It was every thing I remembered.

The course was in very good shape,the greens were fast and the tempo was good.

All holes are unique. Beautiful and well kept. Greens could have been quicker to the perfection.

We have played this course before and everything is always excellent . People are great, the course is always in great shape . What else is there to say.
Great Course Value For Late November
This course is in great condition. Greens are fast and fairways lined with Sawgrass. Lots of water on the course, so take lots of balls unless you are a straight shooter. Played in a shotgun start and our group of 4 played in 3 hours and 40 minutes. Weather was perfect, but the course beat me up score-wise.
Always in great shape
I have played here several times and really like the layout of the course and condition.. Wet; cold and sloppy day as it rained on and off the entire round. Course was wet as expected but in very good condition. Staff is always extremely polite and helpful.
Hope they continue to allow the public to play here year round. This time of year this is one of the best for the money. I will be back one more time before I leave.

Play this course if you can. good mix of holes and not too much water in play. greens were perfect.

This course is absolut recommending for player with low and high HCP. The course conditions were in very good shape withe perfect greeens (played Oct.2014 HCP 15,1).
Tough course great condition!
First time playing this course and I gotta say I was very impressed with the course conditions and the overall layout of the course. The course is very long off the tips. Over 7,300 and with the course being a bit on the right side you better be on your game if your gonna play from back there. Greens are very true and aware pretty big so make sure you know where the pin placement is. I did like how they had daily pin placements on the carts, kinda wished they had a hole map so you could see what the hole looks like. Overall though a wonderful course
