Hit 'em straight and you will have a blast. Don't let some of the short holes full you, and must bring your "A" game. Very professional staff.
Mt. Woodson is one of the best courses in San Diego county for under $50. It is a tough course, so if you are afraid to lose balls, Woodson isn't the course for you. With a significant amount of elevation change and narrow fairways through-out the course, distance will be less of a concern than ball placement. I love playing this course and would highly recommend it to everyone. The only bad thing i can say it would be nice if there was a real driving range and they could use a little more parking.
What a great coarse, not long but you will need to be straight. Every hole is a different challenge. The coarse is in great shape and the staff was great. A must play if you live with in 2 hours. well worth the drive.
Course may be tougher than you think.
Mt.Woodson is a pretty short course but don't let that fool you into thinking it is easy. It is actually quite difficult if you don't have your A-Game. You need to play it a few times before you can score really well. But all in all it is a challenging but fun round of golf.
Awesome elevation changes, very unique of this golf course, that's why it keeps drawing me back. Not much to complain about this place. Pro shop staff very professional, enthusiastic and very friendly. They could use a Marshall out there at times when pace becomes a little lagging. With all the rains we just got in the past couple of days this golf course will most likely make a 5 star rating in the few coming days without a doubt.
A short but challenging course. The staff was excellent. The conditions were really good. The greens had a lot of unfixed ball marks bc of an earlier tournament, but that's more on lazy golfers rather than the course. Overall, a great time on a fun and challenging course.
There are many great courses outside San Diego city proper. About an hours drive from downtown SD. We played on a Saturday at 1220 and finished at 430. ( It gets dark around 5 here) This includes some extra time to look for errand shots and a slower group ahead of us. Course is in great condition. Didn't need a driver since most holes can be reached with irons. A hotdeal at $37 made it even better.
Phenomenal Fall 2019 conditions
Most pleasantly surprised with our round today. The greens are smooth and firm, and the fairways are green. What else can you ask for this time of year?
Seems that every other course in the area are either preparing or recovering from overseeding and aerification. But the underrated Mt. Woodson is plush & healthy tee to green.
If long carrys from the tee and tight tee shots isn't your preferred layout. I understand, it's not the easiest. But jf your looking for a well kept challenge this fall, look no further.
Best views but what is that smell?
This course is a hold over for shot making rather than the driver-wedge game of newer courses. I used my driver once one the front nine at #2.
The fairways are in good condition with a few bare spots and some soggy areas but overall better than most courses that are finishing up with punching and sanding the greens.
The biggest issue was the smell. It was like played at a dairy farm.
My Woodson golf course
Although you said it was in San Diego, it was not. It was inRamona Ca which was quite a way from San Diego. With that being said , it was worth the drive. 18 holes of very challenging golf. Every hole was different and hard. The course was beautiful and very well maintained.
Worth the drive
Always a pleasure to play Woodson. Course is in very good condition ( considering the recent heat ). We are always amazed at how someone was able to design a course to fit that topography. A great day overall.
This golf course is very close to a 5.0 star rating. The fairways are immaculate and in great shape. Your balls are easy to find if you happen to hit to a rough area. The greens are in great shape and balls roll well with no bouncing balls, free of fungus or any issues. The staff is SUPER friendly.
Great place to enjoy a round or two with friends or family.
Good course condition
Very good course condition
Bunker should be improved with sand, too hard and tough.
Anyway when I consider everything, course is recommendable.
Not your average golf course!
We were warned the course was "tight" and it is, but there's more to it than that. There are many hills, some very dramatic elevation changes especially on the back nine (e.g. hole seventeen), a couple of long, intimidating par threes (holes three and nine), a few blind shots, and at least one hole where a shot even just over the green results in a lost ball. We caught a slow foursome on the third hole but they considerately allowed us through on five, clear sailing afterwards, finished in four hours. Greens were very receptive, putts rolled nicely, fairways were good or excellent but the sand in many bunkers was thin and or hard. Don't let the sub-6,000-yard length fool you. This is not an executive course. Play the blues: you will be challenged. The course is picturesque. The Mt. Woodson bridge between two green and three tee is unique -- WOW! -- it's an adventure, my wife videoed the cart ride over. All first-time groups receive an introductory "cheat-sheet" that helps a little. Water jugs were available every third or fourth hole. Overall, not your typical round of golf: challenging, unique, fun and well worth the price.
