Inspired by the backdrop of the Manatee River, Ted McAnlis has created the ultimate golf experience with the perfect combination of beauty and challenge. Waterlefe Golf & River Club is built along a particularly beautiful section of the Manatee River, complete with wide expanses of pristine marshes and pleasant coves. Don't be surprised if on the 15th tee you spot a family of manatees poking noses up for a breath of air. The golf course was designed with a great deal of time, effort and expense going toward protecting and resorting the natural environment that gives the course it unique character. The gently sloped greens with the newest Tifteagle Bermuda offer the ultimate in putting. From a lazy start on the par-5 first hole to the big finish on the 18th hole island green, golfers love Waterlefe Golf & River Club!

Had a very nice time. As average golfers we lost our share of balls, but it wasn’t the courses fault. Employees very polite and course in very good condition. We recommend playing Waterlefe!

This course is known for emptying your bag of golf balls. Danger around every turn. The risk vs reward leans heavily on a good approach or lay up. Course was in excellent condition. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Not a course for beginners, nor is there an advantage for long hitters. A must play to test all parts of your game!

They said I was all by myself at 2:00pm, that was fine but it took me four and a half hours and ruined my back nine with how slow it was paying.

This course is in good shape. you need to know how far you hit your clubs so you can lay up in the proper places. Will take several times to get used to where you have to hit the ball.

The course is in decent shape. The course design resulted in half a dozen "quirky" holes. If you can play it for less than $40, I'd recommend it.

Fun layout, fairways you could eat off, greens that roll true, and bring your ‘A’ game. Wish I was closer (35 miles away) and I would think about joining Waterlefe. Staff friendly, starter right on the ball, and other players that I played with were very pleasant. This course certainly is one that must get your attention especially the back nine. You can score, but don’t be too far right/left. Water does play a major role on most holes, but hit ‘me straight and you will be rewarded. Can’t wait to come back. 17 handicap and 3-4 times a week I play the West Coast of Florida courses.

Fun course. Must watch landing areas, can easily run through some fairways into water. Most holes leave driver in bag unless you can carve your shots. Greens in good shape. Worth the cost. Will go back.

The Good: Waterlefe is an interesting Ted McAnlis design in the Bradenton area just outside of Sarasota. Devoid of houses is a huge plus, the course routes through wetlands on literally every hole but has enough trees and sand to hold its own even if you manage to keep it dry. Very strong Par 5's and good variety in Par 4 with several doglegs. Par 3's are extremely difficult but visually appealing. Well-conditioned fairways and very large, smooth greens that don't have too much undulation. Nice clubhouse and above average putting green. Pace of play for a fivesome was excellent (under 4 hours). Starter and clubhouse staff were very accommodating. Great GPS on the carts!

The Bad: Seems odd to be hitting into a pond for the driving range at such an expensive course: perhaps its just foreshadowing for whats to come. While off-course service was friendly, the ranger was extremely pushy despite our great pace as a fivesome and there was no on-course beverage service to speak of. Course design provided very little options off the tee, particularly the medium length Par 4's. The Par 3's were overly long, difficult for the tees that we played. Overpriced for the quality of course and service received.

The Verdict: Waterlefe is a good, yet uninspiring option in the Sarasota area. Lacks a "wow-factor" set of holes. I found myself saying multiple times "This isn't a hundred dollar golf course."

Best Hole: The dogleg left Par 4 13th is one of the few holes with ample room off the tee and an approach that must cross a creek and avoid overhanging palm trees.
