Great day on fun course
My wife and I played 36 on a Friday in 6.5 hours with a break for sit down lunch. Conditions are excellent with a few exceptions: a couple of greens had some bare spots and a few fairways as well (minus one star). But they were minor issues. Course is fun from correct tee box (move forward one). Greens rolled true with enough break to make it challenging. Rough was penal but fair (half stroke penalty). Bunkers were in good shape, with several pot bunkers in strategic positions. Lot s of elevation change and rolling fairways. All tee boxes were excellent. Staff was friendly. No beverage cart on duty but water available every 3-4 holes (but it needed to be colder, minus one star). Hole #2 ate me alive as I’m sure it will you too. Wife (17 hcp) loved course and can’t wait to go back. Excellent practice facilities.
Course Not up to A Level but Pretty Darn Good
Having played Timacuan earlier this year I was a little surprised to see so many dry spots throughout the course. As for me, it didn't really matter as I like the layout and the greens were in great shape so I could live with some dry areas. It was just a little surprising considering the rain most of the courses around have been getting. It wouldn't stop me from highly recommending the course or from me returning in the future. Just an observation that some may find not to their liking.
Greens were really really nice. Overall conditions throughout were really good.
good playing course
This course offers challenge and if you have a hook or a slice in your game you will suffer. If you are a straight shooter, this is a fun course. The greens were fast by Florida standards but a couple of greens were not in great shape (bare spots and dead grass). Overall, a good course and worth the $40 we paid through GolfNow.
This is a difficult course for a mediocre golfer like myself. Long holes, several over water or near shots, big sand traps and some elevation changes.
The greens were nearly perfect and the fairways in great shape...some puddles in low spots but not as bad as most courses.
It is a long walk from the parking lot to the pro shop so if you have difficulty with that let someone else get the cart.
Great staff and course layout especially the greens
We were a twosome and got off around 7:30 AM. Although dew was on the grass, the fairways were excellent and the greens were the best I've played on this summer. They were fast but true. I love the layout and the course rewards good shots but also penalizes your mistakes (especially the 2nd hole). Being a twosome, we were never pushed. The staff was extremely cordial and we are definitely planning to return as often as we can.
Just a great course...
This is an excellent, very challenging course. Layout is spectacular, with appealing lines and topography. Be prepared to work it both ways off the tee, and use every iron in bag at some point. The greens are perhaps the best among the courses we play regularly, somewhat grainy but receptive and rolling true, and are so filled with subtle breaks you can't wait to get to the next one to redeem yourself for a misread. Pay attention to the grain!
Just a great course...
I was a member of Timacuan when it opened in the late 80's until 1993. I had played after the course had been changed in the late 1990's, but had not played again since 2008....10 years later 2018, here I was with my youngest son Julián (30) that I used to bring to Timacuan when he was just a baby. I was so happy to see my dear friend Kevin Sternett at the pro shop and to meet the director of golf Joe Lewandowski after I played with my son Julián. They are both just like the rest of the staff...Class Acts!
We both were amazed at the condition of the course after the torrential rains the night before. Almost every other course in the area, was either closed or cart path only , but not Timacuan and best of all the greens were EXCELLENT.
If you have never played Timacuan before or you have not played it lately, you owe it to yourself to play it either way.
Challenges off every tee
This course has something to offer on every hole and makes you make choices that are difficult but reasonable on each hole. The fairways were in great shape except for one of the par 5’s which was extremely wet. Greens in good shape as well except for this one hole. Got the third tee time and played quickly. Beautiful course and a great day. Would definitely come back.
glad i made an early airport run for this one.....
the course is not close to where i live but had to pick the parents up at the sanford airport so i thought i would make a day of it. man am i glad i did. what an amazing course. i enjoyed it so much and the layout was great. that second hole is tricky though, get a yardage book! greens and fairways were excellent. will be back.
