Making a comeback
The course conditions are really starting to come back. The course is all mowed down and the greens are making improvements since that last time I came out. The layout itself is amazing, plenty of challenges. In addition to this there are tons of animals on the property from deer to bears and everything in-between.
Horrible condition
This course is in horrible shape, greens are hard and brown, no fairways more like fairroughs tee box is so dry that it's hard to even stick a tee in the ground. Played this course a few years ago and was a lot better. They have let it go without taking care of it
Unkept
It is a shame that this course is neglected. The layout is challenging with water on almost every hole. I think it has potential but the lack of any course maintenance made for a frustrating day.
Not worth your time
The gentleman in the Pro Shop told me that the course has improved over the last few months. Well when I went out there it was worse than it has ever been. I won't play here again until the course improves a lot
Worst golf course conditions I've EVER played.....
Title says it all!! The "fairways" were nothing but weed infested hardpan riddled with fire ant mounts throughout. The greens are all brown and chewed up. Believe me, I don't have high standards when it comes to playing golf, but this was simply BAD. On some holes, if you were in the rough, it was like hitting out of a bunker because of the sandy soil. Speaking of bunkers, they were non existent, instead, what were once beautiful bunkers looked like dried out old dirty ponds!! In addition, portions of the rough were rutted out so badly, that you almost needed a 4 wheeler instead of a golf cart. At one point, we joked that it appears the zombie apocalypse was upon us, since the course was abandoned and in such disastrous shape. DON'T waste your money! Truly sad, given in the right hands, this course could be gorgeous. Hopefully someone buys this place and fixes it back up.
Dont waste your time
Used to be nice. Now it's a goat pasture. Sand traps have more grass than the greens. They need to sell it to someone who will take care of it.
Heading in the right direction
It has been a while since I have played this course. The man in the pro shop was very nice and said the course still had a lot of work but they were headed in the right direction.
As for lay-out and scenery this course is second to none. Deer, hawks,, turkeys you will see it all.
The conditions are bad right now. Greens are puttable but not very good. Fairways and rough are nothing but weeds but at least the fairways are mowed tight so that does help a little.
I do hope he is right and they know what they need to do and are working on it. This is a course with great potential.
I'd recommend it for a place to go out and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. And I will definitely go back in the hopes that it does continue to improve.
Improving slowly
This course is far from being in great shape but it is improving, especially the front 9. Course could be great if money was to be invested in it.
Improving
Played course before and it was in poor condition. Still has a long way to go but it is improving gradually. Given the price, the layout and gradual improvements I would play again
Wouldn't recommend it.
The greens were extremely poorly kept. They had dried up and were nothing but clay on half of the holes. Best part of the course were the deer and wildlife that were present.
They'd have to pay me to play this course again.
The course itself was a pretty cool course after playing Casselberry and Mayfair for the past few years. But the course condition was horrendous. The only way I'd play this course again is if they paid me.. There wasn't any fairways, the greens were in horrid shape and there were occasional ant piles in the middle of the 'fairway' and broken sprinkler heads scattered throughout the course. A shame they let the course get to this condition. Even the driving range is in really bad condition.
This course has really fallen on hard times
Quite frankly, for the price I paid, not bad. The course is in terrible condition.
I can not In good faith return here, as there probably will no longer be a course here. It needs a lot and a lot more TLC.
NEEDS WORK
Before I rant about the negative features of the course, I'd like to point out the positive, which was the staff. The gentleman in the pro shop was very accommodating, friendly and professional. The bartender was very nice and talkative and the ranger was very thorough. My playing partners and I agreed the one positive aspect of this course was the staff.
Unfortunately, the negative aspects of this course far outweigh the positive. I will not be able to recommend this course to anyone due to it's poor condition. We were advised the course was "making a comeback", however, it will need many months of nurturing if it's truly going to "come back."
I told my playing partners that on a number of holes, a bombing range was in better condition than the fairways. The greens - well not green, not smooth and it was like playing on gravel. An aerated green is easier to putt on than the greens at Magnolia Plantation.
It's really ashame that this course is in this poor of condition. I can only hope it comes back. I should have taken into account other player's reviews before booking our round.
HIDDEN GEM NEEDING TLC
Pros: The course layout is challenging for all skill levels. Set up sort of penal (many greens guarded by water) so a lot of forced carries. Greens have undulation and character, some greens are small so your approach shot placement is a factor in scoring. The water is out of view from many teeing grounds, hit to far and water comes into play frequently.
Cons: Course maintenance is severely lacking, some of the other reviews indicate the specific needs. Noticed local kids driving on course with four-wheelers and private golf carts.
Opportunities: The lack of course play coupled with the lay-out would be a great place to bring junior golfers or beginners in the afternoon till closing. Additionally, might be a place to host a small tournament at a fair price.
I will play this course again, and would recommend with the caveat of the maintenance issue.
Once great course now in terrible shape.
I moved out of the Lake Mary area about 5 years ago. When i left this was my favorite course, nice design, always well kept, I loved it. Unfortunately after this weekend I won't play there again. The course was in such bad shape it was depressing. Greens are in bad shape, fairways were all weeds and crab grass. Really disappointed with what has happened to this course.
Condition
Considering the elagance and grandeur of the surrounding neighbourhood, I was expecting a lot more. The whole course has been neglected, both the fairways and greens are plagued with anthills and weeds. I know the green fees are not very expensive but if they put some money into it, they could get more money out of it. Don't suspect many people of the neighbourhood play this course.
Poor
The owner is letting this course go so badly great layout but no fairways only dirt or clumps of "grass" I'm so sad to give this review. We got hot deal but even that did not make it worth it. Hope they get it back to its former self
