Not that special

Started out by being surprised we were not playing the Talon Course after the Pro from home got us on the course and we paid full price. The Eagle course is pretty mundane. Holes not that creative simply very elevated greens where any shot that doesn't stay falls several yards off and away from green. Several holes among vacant lots where houses never built, pretty ugly. In all, very disappointed, would never return. Very nice practice area.

Architectural fascination

When's the last time you and your friends played a new course and laughed with delight at the green shapes? You will at the Eagle. This is a happy, respectful homage to C. B. MacDonald - Seth Raynor classical architecture, in a Florida nature preserve atmosphere (complete with deer on the practice range) and with the benefit of impeccably polite, attentive, helpful staff service.

challenging from any but shorter tees

Played #2 tees (7,000 yds.) in no wind conditions. A number of risk-reward holes with water carries, bunkers, elevated greens. Not on GolfNow much longer, so take advantage. Lots of home construction will eventually mar a beautiful layout. One of best practice facilities around.

Course is fun to play. Really nice practice area.

Nice mix of easy and hard holes. Severe elevated greens a challenge. Not a fan of Jack Nicklaus hump greens. Overall experience was a very good. The pet friendly deer with one antler, who sniffed through our golf bags for food, was a neat feature.

Different, Good... but different

First off, let me just say I was impressed with the course layout MINUS the distance between holes. I thought it would be a little tighter since there is a Champions Tour event here. The course was a little soggy, but in pretty good shape.

The back tees are a little long for a course that has little to no roll. but the number II tees at 7000 are pretty manageable. Every green is elevated at least a little so it is tough to get distances correct and control spin. The GPS on the car seldom has the right number due to the change in elevation on every approach.

Overall it was a really nice experience. The ground are well kept, minus a few obviously re-grassed spots on some of the greens. They rolled fast and true and were a real blast to putt on. Fairways were a little soft, which made the course play pretty long though.

This course is a good challenge, but could be a nightmare for novice players. You can easily get out of position, especially around the greens... and that leads to big numbers and no fun.

As for me, first time here... 79 (from the II tees) and I will be back to try it again.

The course is very challenging and the staff very helpful

Not being a big hitter I felt my choice of tee was wrong the course was difficult enough without making it more so. The fairways were soft and there was no run on the drives, the greens were receptive and very undulating. In general the course was in good condition for the time of the year however the guys in front were very slow and at one time were a 5 ball. They also did not rake the bunkers too good.

Four and a Half Stars

Very enjoyable and playable course. I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the greens. Although they held and putted very well there was a lot of under repair spots. Saying that it didn't detract from the overall playability and I'd definitely return.

Good value for a very nice course.

We played the Eagle course and found it to be a good value for a nice SW Florida course. Fairways were in great shape. The greens were fast. The conditions were typical for early summer. Will play again upon my next visit to the condo. Unforetunately the Talon course is closed for repair until next season. Should be nice when it is done as they are doing extensive renovations.

Nice course, in good shape and friendly staff

If you can't hit your driver and your 3 wood at least 200 yds., you'd better play from the forward tees if you want to make any pars. The par 4 holes seemed quite long, except for the 16th, which was only 209 from the front tees. The greens were moderately fast and very deceptive but pretty true. Almost all the greens were elevated but had lots of "bail-out" room on either side. It was a fun course, even though a bit challenging in length.

Very scenic course with plenty of water and bunkers.

This course has many elevated greens with shaved areas immediately surrounding which make the course more difficult than a flat approach. We had two club wind which made the course very challenging. The greens were 10.5 stemp and rolled true. Well place bunkers made us shoot for landing positions off the tee.

A Private course experience for the Public course guy.

Great practice areas to be followed by Great Golf Experience! We played the Eagle. Fairways provided good size landing areas. 2nd/3rd shots always into elevated greens that sometimes allowed ones ball to roll back off. Greens were Big and fast. Get the speed down & you will love em!
One of the BEST courses I have played in Southwest Florida.

Challenging, but rewards thoughtful play

Excellent course. Challenging, but rewarding for the thinking player and good course management. Believe playing it more would lead to knowledge on how to play course and improve scores.

Don't know why some other reviews are negative ("tricked up"). Believe the course rewards the thinking player

The Eagle course is wonderful, but tough.

This is a very challenging golf course, with MANY fairway bunkers.
The fairways are moderately wide, but don't abut one another, so if you miss the fairway and the 10-15 yards of rough you are in jail. There is water alongside many holes (on one side only), but the other side has thick jungle on most holes. Not any real "water carries" but the course is a challenge. Most of the greens are elevated, with undulating greens. The greens are fast, but true.

Golfing at its Best!

Can't find a better course in Naples. Everything is maintained to a tee as well as a view out of a nature book. You will see alligators, turtles eagles and falcons on almost every hole. We enjoy it every time - when we can afford it!
