Golf Club At South Hampton
About
The Golf Club at South Hampton was designed to give every golfer appropriate risk-and-reward opportunities that supply both encouragement to beginners and challenges for more advanced players. The slope and contour of the course’s landscape is its trademark with strategic mounding and over 60 contoured bunkers that emphasize the terrain’s natural undulations. The course features rolling fairways and massive greens. There are also sixteen large lakes that come into play throughout. The signature hole is the tremendous par-5, 17th, which is a scenic hole that features a lake, fairway bunkers, and a breaking green. Although the course is a challenge, there are six sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels.

Fun but too long
One of the many times I played here this year. Still no range or putting green. New and improved practice area should open in July. This was by far the longest round I have had this year. Almost five hours. Still one of he best public courses in the area. So worth another try.
Would play again
Very good course. A bit more than somewhat challenging.
Needs A TON of attention
This course is in the absolute worst condition I have ever seen. The greens are completely burnt out with giant sand spots in them, you can actually feel the grass crunching under your feet ( what grass is there). Very bumpy, bare and unplayable. Tee boxes and fairways were not much better. At 45 bucks don’t waste your money. A disappointment
Greens are in rough shape
I love the layout of the course as there is some tight tee shots and small greens. They are losing the greens unfortunately. They roll fast but extremely bouncy with areas that are sand. Pace of play was abysmal. Hopefully the greens crew can turn it around for summer.
Disappointed-Won't be back
Played this course for the 2nd time in two years. We come down every March for THE PLAYERS. Last year the course was nice and prompted me to reserve a tee-time for this year's trip. This year the course was in poor shape, the fairways were sparse and the greens were even worse. South Hampton just feel out of our yearly rotation. We won't be back.
2nd Time was a Disappointment
Played this course last March when we were in town for THE PLAYERS. It was in much better condition then. Fairways were thin and greens were in poor condition. You stand on the apron and can see dozens of previous cup changes. The grass was thin but surprisingly the surfaces rolled rather well.
Hats off to the bag drop attendant, pro shop attendant, starter, and the kid cleaning clubs on the 18th. All were very pleasant, professional, and polite. Will look at other courses in the future.
A great value
If you are you looking for a good round of golf on a solid layout, then this is a great choice. Staff is great and range is very good.
horrible shape
It’s the worst condition I’ve ever seen south Hampton. Really not sure how they can charge what they do. You can tell they aren’t putting money back into the course. Not rangers and kids skipping holes.
Loved it
Thoroughly enjoyed my round. Rain sure helped. Course improved a fair bit from three days ago. Greens were excellent.
Sand Everywhere
I enjoyed playing the course with my wife and another couple from Toronto we were paired with. However, I felt like I spent the entire afternoon in the sand! Most greens protected front and sides by deep sand traps. Fairway sand traps in all the wrong places! The good news is I was able to get a lot of practice.
Pretty disappointing
We went to play on Saturday March 2nd after a few months and I have to say that the conditions of the course in general were pretty poor. It’s not because of the time of the year. That has nothing to do with the conditions of the course. We’ve played in other courses recently and the difference is huge. Playing in South Hampton is not cheap, so we honestly expect better conditions. Cimarrone has improved immensely; the fairways, tee boxes, greens, golf carts, in general everything much better than South Hampton, and cheaper!!! We believe is time the management starts doing some serious renovations and maintenance if they are going to keep charging so much for a round. Otherwise, we will keep going elsewhere.
Dry and sandy
We found this course to have greens that were overly sanded and consisted of a far too hard surface to be a fair play. There seem to be little grass left on these greens as they were aged and dried out beyond repair. There was an over abundance also of sand bunkers which were in manageable condition but so numerous they became tedious for the round.
Having played another course the day before without these conditions they became obvious that we have to check reviews before we book two times in the future while traveling to this area.
Concrete greens
First time playing this course and we would not return in the future. The greens were hard as concrete with little grass left. Probably due to dry conditions and age of the grass. They need to be redone. We like the challenge of sand traps but this course is excessive with the placement and number of traps. Given the other options in the area, we opt to play elsewhere.
Not worth the price
South Hampton used to charge in the $40-$45 range to play & course was always in good shape. Now they charge $55-$65 and the course is in poor shape. Greens are rock hard with no grass at all. Balls hitting green runs off 90% of the time. Fairways rock hard and no grass, mostly dirt.
Very disappointing!
TO ALL GOLFERS EVERYWHERE
Please, sand / replace your divots. Repair your ball marks on the green. And rake the sand trap properly when you leave. . Thank you very much!
Average at best
Played mid-morning on Saturday in late February.
The Good- pace of play was good, even approaching great on this nice/busy day. Carts in good shape (but no GPS/tracking/speakers). Enjoyable course layout.
The Bad - The course has had a lot of play and it shows, particularly on the greens, which are thin and fast. Tee boxes and fairways in fair condition considering time of year.
Overall, I will play this course again, but will make sure I find a discount to make sure it’s worth price.
Don’t this beat all. One of the two South Hampton owners was seen playing at STILLWATER today. Instead of paying attention to his course, which is in much needed repair. Must be nice to have daddy’money!
It was a much better course when Hampton Golf was in charge. These new owners are clueless. IMHO I’m told daddy bought the course for them and they spend all their time in Ponte Vedra. TRY STILLWATER JUST A MILE FURTHER WEST ON COUNTY ROAD 210 IT IS PRISTINE!
