Alligator on course Photo submitted by u000004256901 on 12/25/2012
Short, but not a cake walk.
The Dunes is a fun course and one that I highly recommend to anyone visiting this part of town. The course is on the shorter end. Roughly 5600 yards from the tips, but don't discount it. It may sound short but if you are not accurate and controlled, you will be swimming, a lot. It is a great challenge with the irons and keeping your driver in check. I loved my round, I will absolutely be back. The course was in great condition, greens looked great and rolled well. They have some tricky greens so be prepared. What it loses in distance, the course gains in strategic bunkers, water, and undulating greens. The tee boxes were filled in and nicely kept. Some very memorable holes here which you will have a lot of fun with. The clubhouse was really nice, looked like it was brand new. The cost was a little high given they charge $8 for a yardage book. The staff was very nice, everyone was welcoming and the started gave me a quick rundown about the course before I teed up. They also have a range that is very unique. You hit down range into water, I have never seen that before. Plenty of wildlife for people who like that, white sand bunkers and new carts. Sounds like a recipe for a course I would enjoy. There are a lot of homes on the course, some of which are only a blade away from paying for a new window. This course will give you anxiety if you get nervous when homes are near. Give it a try, you will have fun and its a great test. I recommend it.
Course has a fun layout. Was happy back 9 was open. They said it started March 1st.
Lovely course
Really enjoyed playing this course, every hole was picturesque.Very good conditions considering the hurricane hit only 1.5 yrs ago.Staff were very friendly, only complaint is should get a small bucket of balls prior to play for free on the range. Will come back again for sure
Thought the greens were to slow but everything else was fantastic, the course conditions were better than a country club
Russ
Course is somewhat gimmicky a couple unfair tee blocks from the blue and black tees. Greens need a little work some rough spots for the money. And greens were very slow maybe a 4 on the stemp meter. Wonderful staff great carts.
Overall very good
Course is pretty good, it's a bit short form the tips at 5600 yards, the challenge is strategically placing your ball which makes this an enjoyable course.
Only issue we encountered was that as a Hot Deal, and Golf Now didn't clearly identify that the back 9 was closed and we had to play the front 9 twice. (which offers advantages as you get to better your score since you now know where to target your landing areas)
Great round
Back 9 was closed but front was in nice condition. We played the 9 twice and was very pleased. Staff was nice but finished the first round before 111am and the restraint was closed. It was worth the 1 hour drive to play.
Back 9 was closed
I paid to play 18 holes of golf, but was told that the back 9 was closed when I was making the turn. The proshop said they could not reimburse me for the back nine because I paid through GolfNow. How do I get credit for the back nine from GolfNow? The front nine was in good condition, but it took an hour just to get on Sanibel island.
Half course, full price.
Back nine closed, didn’t know it beforehand, didn’t even know it until we made the turn.
Good, but overpriced right now
This was my first time playing the dunes, and there’s no doubt in my mind that this used to be an amazing golf course, and still can be an amazing golf course…..but as of right now it’s simply not worth the money you pay. The course is very green and appealing to the eye but the fairways are thick and the greens are slow and furry. I understand that they are under repair from the storm but that should reflect in their green fees and it doesn’t. Front 9 only which was specified, and no driving range which wasn’t specified.
With all that being said I loved the island, and the course layout enough to try it again if they get the full course back open and trim those greens. The fella at the pro shop and starter were both amazing guys and the clubhouse/ dining area looked great in my opinion. If you play both tennis and golf The Dunes is worth checking out.
Not, as offered in the app
Only the first nine are playable.
All practice facilities are closed.
The price is not justified.
