Won't play this course again
Not a good golf experience! The course is a nice enough layout, although it's among houses, but the course conditions were not good. The fairways and rough are very hard. The greens are fast but as firm as the fairways. To make matters worst, we were 2 hours, 45 minutes for 9 holes and there was no ranger. We packed it in after nine and asked if we could get a 9 hole refund, but there was no sympathy (or refund) to be found. We certainly won't be back.
Not quite there yet.
First time playing since it reopened. Always loved the layout. Still very little grass off the fairways and needs a lot more reseeding etc. The greens are actually in decent shape. Our tee-off was a half hour behind and the starter seemed to keep letting twosomes pair up and go ahead of us. Then the groups were very slow and had little golf etiquette. Not sure when or if we will go back.
Course opened too soon
The greens are literally the only decent part of this course. They were filled in but were just absolutely wrecked with pitch marks. If you found a part on the greens not pitted, they rolled pretty good. The fairways are a joke. Weeds everywhere, dirt everywhere. The roughs were exactly that. Bare spots everywhere. The owner needs to close this course back down and get everything in shape before opening back up. For the most part the course layout was decent. The bunkers looked great but as soon as you stepped into them you realized they just look good. They were almost like playing out of mud because they were extremely wet. The staff was friendly enough. The driving range was pretty cool hitting over water. I wish the course was in better shape. Has the potential to be a gem.
Still needs work
Opened again in past year. Tee boxes and greens in good shape. The rest of the course is full of weeds.
Fairways still need a lot of work
Open fairways
Nice course, should be real nice with more grass growth!
Still growing in....
The course is still growing in from being closed for over 5 years. Going to take some time to get grass in the fairways and rough to be consistent. Great course, just wish it would get better quicker.
Too expensive for course condition
So I started playing SBW back in 2002 so I know this course. This is the first time i've played since it reopened last year. The bright spot of the course are the way the greens roll. Putted extremely well. The greens are hard as a rock though. Ball bounced very high and was hard to keep it on the green. That was even after the ton of rain that was just laid down on the course. The fairways are in mediocre shape. The grass needs to keep growing and there are a fair amount of bumps in places. The rough is horrible. It's mainly just the weeds that had previously grown when the course was closed, just mowed down. Same around the greens. In its current condition it's about a $40 course. We had the course to ourselves, which was nice but i'm sure that was due to the high price as I called Forest Lake and they were jam packed. If they priced the course right for its current condition then I think they would get a lot more business and have more money to improve the course quicker. If they keep it high I'll be surprised if this course doesn't close again. I'd hate that as I always loved playing here. Course has a nice layout with the right amount of water to make play a bit challenging. It just needs some TLC and time.
Course condition
The courses condition was not very good
very sparse grass and the rough was not very good I have played that course many years ago and it was in great condition but was disappointed at the shape it was in. Need some care to bring it back to where it was years ago
Has great potential
From what I was told the course just re-opened after years of being closed and neglected. The greens are in great shape, fairways and rough still needs to fill in but give this course some time and it will be a very fun course to play.
Good experience with recently reopened course.
Pace was very slow and no apparent effort from staff to address it. Otherwise a solid experience. Greens in very good condition. Tees and fairways so-so, avg for low- moderate tier course this time of year. Staff good !!
Could be better
My first time playing since course reopened. Got a good rate on GolfNow. The greens are very good but the fairways need work. Lots of bare spots Though the fairways would be in better condition after the rehab of the course. The daily fee they charge is too high for the course Staff helped a lot to move a group two holes ahead that were causing extremely slow play. Pace picked up after their assistance
Great Burgers!
The course is still in a stage of growing back in. Fairways and rough are sparse in a lot of areas. Played off a lot of dirt and mud. Greens would be decent if players fixed their ball marks.
Always enjoyed the layout of SBW. Pretty challenging on its good days.
A Welcome Return
I aways loved this course and was saddened when it closed. Given the neighborhood it runs through, I always expected it to reopen, but didn't expect it would take so long. At any rate, the course layout is unchanged. Given it's recent reopening, I agree that it remains a work in progress but is still very playable. The fairways are thin, needing time to mature, but the greens are good and apart from a few holes on the back 9, we were pleasantly surprised.
The Course hasn't been re-opened that long.
I really like the layout of it course. Considering how long they opened back up, the course was in OK shape. The greens were really good. The tees were in decent shape. The fairways were OK. However, the rough and around the greens were on rough shape. I'll play again, but not until after the summer.
Very nice course, Well maintained. Water in play for a lot of holes. Greens fast ,
