Getting better
Played here a couple of years ago and although conditions haven't improved to the point of making this a must play, they are trying to improve it.Fairways are rough, bunkers are ok and greens are slow. For the money if you get it day of play you can't go wrong at $10.It's a good place to work on improving your concentration for different lies. And the front nine is a fun group of holes where club selection and daring keeps you on your toes. The back 9 is links style with a mixture of easy and tough holes.Give them a chance for the price.
It’s ok
Course is very challenging, fairways are sparse, as are the greens. The greens putt true but they need more grass.
Weed patch
The fairways and T boxes are like a pasture of weeds that have been cut short. Greens are in decent shape.
You get what you pay for
I was looking for a place halfway between Orlando amd Crystal River to play a round with my parents and this fit the bill. Never has the adage "you get what you pay for" been more accurate. The fairways were sparse at best and as others have said the layout is like 2 different courses and just.. weird. The greens were in decent shape, but not consistent. The range balls were circa 1990, and there was no bar or alcohol served. We only paid about $16 each for the round, but we won't be back. If cheap golf is your thing this course is for you, otherwise, stay away.
Shady Brook Golf And RV Resort
11:00 am tee time w/ wife for $12.84/ea thru Golfnow.com. Similar in quality to Mount Dora GC, The Abbey Course, & Water Oak CC. Gas carts without Windshield or rain cover in back. Clover fairways. Initially slow greens but got faster when sun came out. They say you get what you pay for but in this case, you get more. This course has a fun & interesting layout. By no means nothing like a resort course & not pristine, but playable & fun. Was worth the hour & 10 minute ride.
Fun and challenging!
On and off rain showers didn't dampen our enthusiasm for this course. The 2 nines are very different so there is something for everyone. Greens were in good shape, fairways not too bad. Staff so friendly and helpful. We will be back!
Cheap Golf : You get what you pay for!
Front 9 Challenging, back nine open, looks like two different courses! Greens slow and fuzzy and uneven. Fairways winter condition. Good to get out and golf but don't expect much. For the price it's OK. Leave your scorecard behind.Just practice!
Good for the price
Played this course a few weeks ago and I thought it was good. Person I played with did not like the course, for the cost I would go back. I liked the lay out and would recommend this course to anyone.
Nice Layout - Value Good
This had 2 separate layouts in the 18 holes. One tight and tree lined and the other Scottish Link type. Fun course, but it does need some work in the fairways. The greens were nice except not mowed too low. At LEAST they had grass on them compared to many played in the area for twice the price! For the money, unless you are prima donna who thinks you need to play perfect conditioned courses because you are such a good golfer, this was a good course to play with friends. Play winter rules. The staff was easy going and freindly.
Well worth what we paid.
Greens are in excellent condition, Fairways are dry more a mix of weed and grass and very short, Was a fun course to play for my wife and I, I will play this course again.
Lots of potential
Know that the fairways have been let go for years. But the greens, fringes, and aprons were seeded for winter growth and the results show. Tees were also seeded, with mixed results. Golfers who hit just one shot from the fairway per par 4 will be OK with the very poor fairways, I suspect. People who take several shots per fairway, maybe not so much. Everyone will be able to find a spot to hit their shot from, but it can require moving the ball quite a few feet. The design of the course is interesting; 12 open links-style holes and six tight holes through the woods and carp-filled ponds (a couple of which holes have interesting water carries and/or elevation changes). 1 and 10 are (almost) driveable par 4s, and there are a couple of 200-yd plus par 3s. There are not a lot of bunkers, but they are well-placed to catch a poor drive and to force proper approaches into greens. You may want to rake a bit of the compacted sand and then re-place your ball here for sand shots. The greens are healthy, but a bit slow. All in all, you can have fun here with the right attitude going in. But you won't want to take a grumpy friend with you.
improving
bare spots everywhere. greens are bumpy but not as bad as last year. I can see improvement over last 2 years.
Be warned, this is the worst course ever!
The owner of this course obviously does not take pride in his/her work and it shows in every way. It appears they haven't replaced the range balls since 1988. The fairways are a mixture of dirt and weeds. The greens are patchy and extremely bumpy. Even the hot deal price is too much for this goat ranch. Take my word, you will regret playing here.
Much Improved
Course is much improved since other rounds played early this year. Greens a bit slow but for the price and pace of play it was great.
Bad Course
This was one of the worst golf courses ever played.
WORSE COURSE IN FLORIDA
It's been 15 years since I last played here and it will at least that long before I return again. This place in nothing short of a cow pasture. No fairways to speak of , greens were dirt and what was green were the weeds. .Too bad
because the front could be very nice./ Back is nothing but grazing land.
This isn't worth $5 let alone what they are asking .
Cow pasture
Four of us played this so called golf course today and what a waste of time and money. Playing in a cow pasture would have given us a better time. The greens were so bumpy that a putt would go in many directions on a 10 ft putt. Bouncing all over the place. No grass in the fairway and the tee boxes were as bad as any I have ever played on. The cost was $15.00 and they should have paid us to play there. Take my advise and stay away from this course. Or if you want to prove me right, go there and you can waste some time and money too.
needs help
the fairways need help why is mine review to short its to the point
