Fox Hopyard Golf Club

Great golf course to play that rewards good golf shots if you are playing in the fairways. Very penal playing out of the rough especially around the greens .

Fox Hop was a blast. Challenging but super fair and not nearly as tight as it looks. Conditions were great from tee to green. Very cool layout, doglegs, elevation changes etc... Not much water in play either. One drawback, SLOW! Need a ranger as one group backed the entire back nine up to the point of two or three groups waiting to tee off. Otherwise fantastic. Will go back. (and just hope the slow foursome isn't there!)

Have played here several times in the past years - always the same issue -no rangers to help keep pace of play! 5+ hours to play is ridiculous for the price you pay, frankly for any price. Always one or two groups holding things up, empty holes visible but no one making people keep up. Very frustrating and hard to keep any rhythm to your game.
Challenging course with great potential -other than the pace

Played today. Left after 13 holes as the pace of play was horrendous. It is not fun to sit in your cart for 10 minutes between shots. The greens were incredibly slow ( don’t think they had been cut in 2-3 days) and in average shape at best. Charging 85 bucks to play a public course with sub standard conditions is ridiculous. It’s not a private club. Stop acting like it is..

Practice facility before you play was key. Rough was thick. Greens firm but not too fast.

Always a fun challenge, They are making great strides to get the Course back to where it used to be. Staff is very friendly and always polite and attentive. Definitely will be back.

What a nice golf course, very underrated. Some very interesting par 3s. The green could have been a bit faster but other than that. A great course. I played it two straight days with my golf group. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely play this course again whenever I am in Connecticut. Highly recommend it.

They layout was awesome and the staff was fantastic!!

My Golf group NAGG ( Nigeria American Golf group) had our summer outing here August 6th and 7th 2021. John Jackson and his staff were really generous to help accommodate our group especially on the Saturday post their member tournament. We played the course on the Friday, and the course was in excellent condition, alot of risk rewards, and was very fair to play. After day 1, most members thought they figured it out, and the cool thing was with slight pin placement change, the course played like a different course, and that was awesome. My group definitely enjoyed our time there, and we will surely be back .
Thanks again for accommodating us, and I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a Gem.

Great layout, pace of play was good and course was in pretty good shape. Only issue was the greens that had some sand on them, but it did not hinder putting at all.

I had heard a lot of hype over the years but had been reluctant because of expense. Decided to make it an occasion and went out for a birthday round. The hopyard definitely lived up to the hype. The course was unique in design, extremely well maintained, they have a friendly and personable staff, and the stunning views were endless. I will definitely be booking again.

Really great shape. The rough is a little tough if you don’t stay in the firsts cut. Greens were in great shape.

I had heard about course but was disappointed. Partly due to the greens which were in various states of recovery from a long ago aeration - some were fuzzy, some bumpy, speeds varied a lot and never saw a putt roll smoothly.
The course design is what disappointed me the most. A modern course that tried hard to be "unique" but came across as over-engineered. Lots of the holes had hazards popping in and out of the fairways, many had multiple carry shots. Some had fairways that were half blocked from the tees I used. The tees themselves were in all kinds of dis-orientation to the fairways.
On the positive side the fairways were meticulous and the roughs were even with few bare spots.
My playing partner said the sand in the traps was either very thin or very wet. I noticed wasps nesting in almost every one and fortunately was able to avoid them.

For a modern layout Fox Hopyard really disappointed. Greens were just fair and ran slow as molasses. Sand traps had zero sand, mostly just hard pan. Was relegated to throwing ball out. Ugh! Basically a sub par experience, never again.

The course has grown back in nicely since I played it back in May. The greens have healed and grown back in better. What was annoying was their crazy pin flags. Some back pins were red flags, some front pins yellow, middle sometimes white. I don't use a laser gps so I still really like red, white, and blue for front , middle, and back holes. So simple a fix to see your approach front, middle, and back yardage.

Excellent first experience and worth the ride. Course was in good shape - staff friendly - most comfortable golf cart I've had in a long time. And stop in after for lunch!

To no fault of the golf course staff, it was cart path only due to multiple days of rain. Lots of walking on a very hilly course..

The battery on our golf cart died on the 13th hole -- which explained the herky-jerky ride we had on many of the hills prior to that. We were brought a replacement cart, but the GPS was not working - this was a bit disappointing given the rate we paid.

Great course and great staff. Will play again soon
