A Crime what has happened
I was a member here for 7 years and when joined this course was the jewel of South orange county, but new ownership has turned this once magnificent course from the best to the worst. 1. Gen Mgr is accountant no knowledge of golf course maintenance or administration only task is to save cost. 2. Unqualified greens keeper has no accredited training was promoted from the maintenance staff to save cost of qualified greens keeper. (he is very good at watering) 3, Owner will not allocate funds to properly maintain the course everything is reactive not proactive. The local San Clemente Muni is a far superior value and far better condition. For anyone who has played Shorecliffs in San Clemente only difference is Shorecliffs has better greens. To sum up this review in my opinion Talega is overpriced and under performed.
Beautiful and Tough
Course is very beautiful, nothing was easy as most shots were on sloping areas, green very fast, the back nine was unforgiving for new players with several blind shots. Probably above my skill level
Overpriced and no amenities
Cart path only for no reason.
Driving range is closed.
Cart GPS stopped working on 8.
Staff was unprofessional and we were an inconvenience for being there.
At 6:30 we had to knock on the windo to get them to open the door.
Great course for the money
I had a great time on this course. Challenging and fun with lots of elevation changes. The course was in great shape. The greens were pretty decent. I think one more week and being cut they will play much faster. The back 9 gets a little jammed up but overall good pace. Got done I about 4.5 hours.
Course in good shape
After reading some of the previous reviews, was a little concerned about course conditions. The course was in as good a condition as I remember it, probably because of the aeration done back in September. The only issue I had was the pace of play, which was spotty at times, but the last 4-5 holes were really slow due to a 2sum which moved at a snails pace. Could have used a Marshal. Otherwise, will be back.
Really enjoyed playing here. Beautiful course. Definitely one of the best values in Orange County.
Small improvements could make this course great
I am a new golfer and play Talega about once a week. The course is in need of some repair but it is getting better. Staff is outstanding....I mean top notch. The issue that most of us have is pace of play. Example yesterday there was a group in front of us that made me (a new golfer) look like a pro. Did not play ready golf and were hitting more than one ball off the tee box with groups stacked up behind them.
The marshal offered to allow us to skip two holes and then come back and play holes 1 and 2. What? How about talking to the slow group and making them skip two holes to relive the bottleneck.
This course has great potential. However the bunkers were like concrete. The greens were shaggy. Hopefully I can get my money back. Hi
Great design mediocre conditions
Really fun design. Tees in poor shape several fairways need serious attention. Greens are in good shape but need to be mowed. Traps appear to have been neglected for weeks. Nice clubhouse and friendly staff.
Talega used to be my favorite course, lately, somehow, it seams to be deteriorating. For a Sunday there was no players, no starter, no marshal. it seam the course hasn't seen ground or green keepers for days. The greens were uncut, unrolled, bumpy and spongy. The bunker still showed signs of the rain we had a few days ago.
Great Layout. The greens are 1 star
I love this course. Hopefully they can get the greens and tee boxes to come back after fall maintenance. Greens were punched about 3 weeks ago, but they are terribly slow coming back. Tee boxes are way furry. Absolutely terrible greens currently. No fun to putt. The staff needs to bring them back to playable condition at all costs.
A little Information would be nice
I used to like this course a lot. I booked on Golf Now for the normal price and when I go to the course I found that they had recently punched the greens and overseeded. The course was not in good shape. Half of the first green was roped off and they had a temporary green on the back in the fairway. No mention of any of this was on the web site. Not a good deal.
Too bad, so sad.
This course has gone down hill, no pun intended. Fairways dry as a bone mostly but then pools of water in places. Some bunkers with good same d but others like cement or very wet. Greens slower than I thought possible. We won't return at any price until we hear conditions have improved.
Love Playing at Talega
Perfect weather. Perfect group. Greens just got punch but we battled through it. We knew they were punched going into it. No surprises! Second time playing here in a month. Love this course. Will play it again-soon.
