Course with a view
Course has to be one of the toughest I ever played, but who doesn't like a challenging golf course.
Course with the best views of the valley.
Extremely Difficult
The course is in great shape. The problem is that it is too difficult for the average golfer. Practically every hole is over one or more barrancas (steep gorges). The hillsides have tall grass, so no way you can find your ball. I usually play with one or two balls the entire round, but here I lost more than a dozen. It is quite picturesque and peaceful there, so it is worth a try if you have the skills. PS - bring a lot of balls.
Challenging course makes you want to come back
One of the most challenging courses in the area. Slopped and narrow fairways make it hard to keep the ball in play. 18th is my favorite hole because the pain is almost over hahaha. Keep the driver in the bag and use your knockdown 3 wood instead. Birdie opportunities on most of their par 3s. Try to keep your ball search to 3 mins to keep pace. Back nine is easier so don't give up just yet. Proper course management is more valuable than your long bombs. Enjoy!
Tough course, fun, needs tending
I'm a 21 hop
pros:
- challenging and fun layout with many elevation changes and narrow landing zonen and greens - bring lots of balls
- mostly good greens
- beautiful scenery overlooking the valley
Cons:
- no driving range
- many bunkers overgrown
- one green had standing water from sprinklers making it unplayable
- sprinklers were running on tee box as we came up, keeping us waiting for almost 10 minutes
Challenge but come back and try again
Bring plenty of balls, however if you don't want to simply pound a driver off the tee this is the course for you. The longest green to tee's in my experience and I was dissappointed to not walk but I can't wait to get back.
It's a great challenging course, but maintenance was very poor. If it goes that way I would not play there any more.
Bunkers & fairways require immediate repair.
I love playing at Ranch GC. Very challenging layout and pace of play is always good. The most of bunkers are not well maintained, which are filled with rocks and long grasses. Fairways have a lot of patches. I personally enjoyed playing here despite of the current conditions though, I don't really recommend my friends to play here now. Hope it gets better really soon.
The Ranch
Course was very dry, it looked like they never watered it. big brown spots on the greens. Weeds in all the bunkers
Good News and Bad News.
The bad news first. I played horribly today and lost a bunch of balls! But more importantly, check out these pictures. The Ranch is finally getting fresh sand into the bunkers! It's been a long time coming but it's really happening. Not all of the traps have been filled yet but a bunch are looking really good. Cheers to Ranch improvement! I didn't see any of the boar destruction I'd seen on my last time out. The course was aerated last week, so I'm predicting a nice summer for the course.
Beautiful Course has become dilapidated
Unfortunately,
This once pristine course has become nothing more than a shell of itself. Teeing off around mid afternoon, it was a beautiful day with great views. Tee boxes and fairways were kept averagely, but the over all maintenance became worse and worse the closer one became to the pin. End up in a bunker, and you were more likely to be in weeds growing in the bunker than in actual sand .
I implore the owners and operators of this course to try to cut less maintenance costs. The ranch has one of the most interesting course layouts In the area, but it is terribly difficult to justify its play with course conditions as they were.
Course in rough shape
I have played this course once a year while visiting family in the area. It is beginning to fall apart. They no longer maintain the bunkers at all. There is grass growing in them and the "sand" is simply packed mud. Not sure why they have rakes in the bunkers because nobody uses them. Tee boxes are a little rough. Pin locations have not been changed for days. The only good thing was the pace of play because there was nobody there. The course is on a death spiral and if they don't put some money and effort back into the course all they will have left is a place to hold weddings in the clubhouse at the top of the hill. Pretty sad...
Great track, but help needed
I have played The Ranch, many times. I love the challenge of the course. If you have a good day here, it is a great round any where else! My complaint is that the pace of play needs to be more tightly monitored. The Ranch needs to make sure that the Food Cart is operational at all times, since the turn does not go by a snack shack or the club house. But I do like the track, and will be back for more golf at the course!
For Advanced Golfers
This course is not for beginners! This is placement golf. The elevation change is unreal, and the fairways are extremely narrow. A few other things to note - buy the yardage book in the pro shop. The scorecard does not have a map/overview, and you need to hit precise yardages, especially off the tee and on lay ups. (Would've been great if someone in the pro shop would've given us this tip so we weren't playing the course totally blind). There are huge carries on most of the front nine, and if you miss the fairway, you can forget finding your ball. The bunkers were totally overgrown and the greens were in ok condition, but certainly not great.
You do not come back to clubhouse at the turn, so if you want food or drinks, you better grab it before tee-ing off. We never saw a cart runner the entire round (on a Sunday).
I will say, this course is beautiful and has some amazing views. However, be warned if you're not a precise ball striker. I spent more money on lost balls than I did on the round of golf! Even good shots are punished if you don't know your yardages.
Great layout and best value in town
Great layout with incredible views. This challenging course makes you stay focused on every shot, never feeling bored. Make sure to bring extra balls, you may lose many of them if you cannot keep them on the fairway.
The monthly player club is the best value in town!
Fun Challenging Course
We played The Ranch on a perfect spring day. It was about 70 degrees and almost no wind. This was a good thing as it is spring and we have not played much. So wind would have made an already very challenging course impossible:)
The course itself was in good shape thanks to a wet California winder. The grass was good. There were some bare spots but overall fine. The bunkers were a disaster for the most part. It is clear that they have not done any work on them over the winter. Many have grass growing in them and not enough sand.
The course itself is a pretty serious challenge. There are a LOT of carries. I don't think there are any flat holes. But this is what makes the course great. There are safe places to hit on almost every hole. There are a couple of carries that are challenging for my wife unless she is in the perfect spot, and even then it takes a good shot.
Overall, I love playing at The Ranch and will do so again.
Too slow
Six-some in front constantly allowing 2 year pld to play.
Bunkers a disaster and looks like they have been this way fo a while.
For the daily price shiuld be better
And why no beverage cart??
Don't miss The Ranch!
Awesome vistas on a well laid out and landscaped course! With online or in-house promotions, it is an excellent value.
Non-walking course with long drives between holes.
Note to Management: Please do regulate tee off to accommodate ALL your patrons. Setting off singles & doubles after foursomes in pre-set intervals will invariably cause unnecessary course crunch issues. Many thanks!
Need more sand
Outside of the hardrock sandtraps, this course is an awesome, unforgiving sum.itch. Be back soon.
