The course played as well as I have ever seen it play
Greens were great and dispite the heat the bay breeze kept the temperature reasonable

This is an OLD course! A little rough around the edges but tons and tons of personality.

I read the reviews about the sand traps before we played and they were as bad as advertised. Really makes it tough to get out around the greens. One thing I didn't read in the reviews was the bees. There were a ton of bees in basically all of the bunkers on the front side of the course, made them really tricky to get into and hit a shot.

Besides that, pace of play was awesome. Tee'd off at 1 PM on a Sunday after and cruised around in a little over 4 hours. Weather was perfect, mid-70s and value for a Sunday was a bargain at 30$.

A few things about the course. Totally shocked us when we got there, they had changed up the front 9 and back 9 on the course, not sure why but just something different.

Also, they don't have a ton of golf ball selections for purchase when you get there. So I would definitely do your shopping before hand and make sure you have plenty of balls.

A beautiful layout, yet the maintenance (lack of water) depletes the experience. Awesome views, the greens are in great shape, tricky but fair. The fairways are almost hardpan, which makes it more difficult on the uneven lies, let alone a flat lie. With a considerable amount of water it would be the course it use to be. A real gem!

The course was in great shape and played well except for the sand traps. What’s up with the cement like traps and grass growing in #16 it is the only draw back to playing this course.
The pace always seems to slow on the back nine don’t understand that. But I’ll be back

Fun course, expect to lose a lot of balls (and to find even more if you dare to look for them ... which we did; I have ticks and rattlers in my neighborhood ...). Bunkers are mostly hard as rock (good or bad?) and some areas are a bit straggly, but it’s a fun course with some great holes, especially the last 10. The people are great.

My son and I really enjoyed our afternoon at Mare Island. It's an interesting layout and the staff are both friendly and accommodating - especially the guy who does the carts. He's great - friendly, chatty and helpful. The course condition was reasonable. Nice greens, decent fairways but the bunkers aren't that great. They are pretty crusty and several of them contain small stones but the bunkers aside it's hard to say a bad word about our Sunday afternoon at Mare Island Golf Course. Thank you!

Had a great time playing Mare Island, weather was perfect, and speed of play was great, no waiting at all. Course in great shape and green was really fast!!

Course has nice views and a great layout to me. It could be maintained better, maybe the winter really took its toll on the course. Needs some real maintaining done. I will be back though

Gusty winds made a tough course even tougher. But as the saying goes, "A bad day of golf beats a great day @ work every time!" The great bay views also help heal the bad shots!

We can thank those old Navy Admirals for making themselves this beautiful golf sanctuary. Great layout with rewarding elevation changes. Interesting and fun. Kind casual well mannered players. Caused me to play better. The greens are not PGA fast, but are nice. Big mature trees in a natural setting. Some shade to park. One of the best bargains in the whole Bay area and not boring, straight, noisy or windy. A poor man's Pebble!

Even the ‘regular’ green fees are a Bay Area bargain, but the GolfNow Hot Deals are a steal! Course is reasonably challenging with some great vistas.

This course has some potential.
A few years ago it was absolutely great to play! Great course conditions, friendly service, nice restaurant, amazing views, and overall a great golf experience. But over the years it has gone through some rough times. About the only thing going for it are the amazing views of the surrounding bay area.
With that being said... It looks like conditions are getting better. I would hope that inin a few months conditions could be much, much better. Bunkers need some work in spots... Need some serious mowing in some spots...
On the bright side...even as I was playing, I saw grounds crews working on some of the before mentioned issues.
As far now, its a work in progress. I will keep playing as long as price matches the conditions!

When the cart guy and the golf shop has repellent on the counter- Buy and Use it !!!! Use an Orange Ball!!!! Lose ball on fairways!!!! If on fringe or rough- Forget about it! The lil white flowers are perfect camouflage! Rattle snakes wait for you in the thick rough!
So many courses to choose from in area. This is last place for me to pick until better course BASIC maintenance is improved!

Mesquitos were so bad here that it made the round hard to enjoy.
