Mare Island Golf Club

Good solid course. Nothing fancy but generally well done

A staff approached us on hole #13 fairway around 4pm telling us our round is over and we must leave. His reason was we were playing extra holes or extending our games beyond 18 holes. I told the guy our tee time started at 12:30pm from GolfNow & I gave my name. They should have checked the starter sheet w/ cart assignment first before checking on us.

If you have not played at Mare Island before, you are missing out. Fun place to play, and the people are so nice.

We played Mare Island in Vallejo at 11:30 am as a foursome and finished in about 4.5 hours.
The weather was cold with a breeze off the bay but
the green were in good condition, fairway had some
bare spots, typical California.
Good views of the surrounding hills and SF bay,
lots of trees and birds.
Worth the drive up.

In very good condition given California drought....is losing trees....challenging fast, breaking greens....fab views...9 of the holes built in late 1800’s....oldest west of the Mississippi....live in the area a must play....

The course is in good condition, green rolled and mowed and fast, fairways have some bare spots but
typical California.
Good views of the bay, lots of trees and birds.
Back nine built in 1892.
Recommend lunch there.

Beautiful day, great bay views. White clover rough made it tough to find balls that should have been easy to find. Fairways and tee boxes too turf bare. some tree trimming would speed play for high handicappers. Good value based on layout and location.

The rough is tall and thick, and this course would be tough for high handicappers, as you lose golfballs.
Good views of the Bay, surrounding hills and some
real history. The front 9 was built in 1892.

Mare Island is good test. Hilly with lots of places to loose balls. With no rain lately it is getting a bit dried out. Greens are variable. Some hard and fast, others softer, slower, but not too bad.

Course was in the best shape I have seen enjoyed the day

Since sometime last year the course now plays back to front... the back being the 'newer' and the most challenging layout some say, but yesterday the back, old front, actually did me in, as those holes are supposed 'easier', but there is less fairway to hit AND more trees to ping around in!

All in all, two differing styles of golf between the back and front 9, be ready to switch your game plan!!

I would play the course again. What ruined my round was the 5 some in front of me. Way to slow, and no marshalls on the course. The cart I was given to use needed to have the interior hosed down. I had to ride with the front windshield down as the upper left side was taped up. But for $20.00 bucks including cart, I still would play the course again.

Pace of play very good, sand traps in very poor condition, hard packed & almost no sand

Great rates for a nice 18 hole links style course. Most sand traps were hard as a rock and fairways were dry in spots. Overall the layout is excellent and with a few course maintenance improvements it would be an excellent value course. I will definitely be back to play again as the value per round is there.

I really like this course. Spectacular views of the Bay from about a half of the holes.
Only issue is a lack of sand in the bunkers. Still was an awesome value.
