Not all that I expected...
Ok so first of all the entire place is under construciton. I did know this before I booked the tee time. So right now, if you pay full price... you aren't getting good value at all.
The staff is all willing to help and show you around the grounds. Very well mannered and friendly attitudes. All of them were quick to provide information and talk about golf.
The driving range is old Red number 10, and is very small. You are htiting from an angled fairway out into a field of brown sod. But you don't come here for the range... right?
It was nice to look out on to TPC Blue Monster, even though it's still under construction. But most of the buildings are having work done, so most of the itme you are navigating through construction areas...
As for the white course, it was a bit of a let down. 7100 from the back tees, not very challenging. Fairways were pretty wide. Greens, while they looked to have spots of other grass growing in them, rolled pretty well. Not as great of a place as I imagined it would be. Also, the course layout snakes through it's self a lot. So if you are next to novice players, they just zip by in the carts and pay no mind to you hitting a tee shot from the tips, or trying to make a 7 footer for birdie. Your first time out, you will probably get a nice surpise if you go a little too close to the greens... your cart stops, demands you put it in reverse and will not move until you do so.
All in all, it was in pretty good shape, and a good experience. Would come back, but only to play the Blue Monster after it is finished. Once the construction is all complete, I think it will be a very nice resort again.
Other negatives:
You must either pay $8 to self park or $20 for valet. For advanced players, I ran into a few groups (I played as a sinlge) who refused to let me through. This made the pace pretty slow on a course that you could get around in 3 hours.
What a pleasant surprise!!!
I found this golf course to be straightforward and relatively benign in places, but don't be fooled. There are some very challenging shots waiting for you. There's no rough to speak of but the water and length make up for it. This is a classic course that allowS you to get away with a few bad shots, but will punish you if miss at the wrong time. One minor drawback is the parking fee ($18 for valet and $12 to self-park), but...after all, it is a resort.
Great value if you get a GolfNow special!!!
This is a VERY challenging course (6655/73.4/140 from the blue tees). The rough is thin 2" Bermuda and just swallows the golf ball. They really, really need a first cut of rough out there (that is the only thing keeping me from a 5-star rating). The up side is that you can advance the ball well if you can find it :=) Keep an eye on those tee shots because even good-looking shots can end up difficult to find. The fairways, tees and greens were all in excellent shape. The layout is very nice and the staff was outstanding. Very nice practice facility and not particularly busy on a Sunday afternoon.
Great course, well maintained and great service
This is a must to play in Miami. The only inconvenience is the noise of the planes and airport.
It felt strange having no rough to hit out from.
The course was very wet. As a result it was cart paths only. The fairways are very wide and it was very tiring to have to walk to the center of the fairways with several clubs because the GPS was on the cart, far away. The greens were large and fast and although it was wet the ball still ran away if you did not select the right club.It made the round more tiring in the 88 degree heat.
I would like to play the course when it is dry and I can drive up to the ball.
Pristine condition, very tough but fun course
1st day reopening after aeration so was not busy. Fairways and tee boxes flawless. Green just a bit bumpy and slow from aeration but not bad at all. Tough course but very fun. Cant beat it for $70 on golfnow. Staff friendly and helpful as always. Cant wait to play again.
Your staff was very very helpful took great care my wife and I
I really enjoy the experience I had playing at Doral I just dislike I couldn't hit range balls and the only place to eat was outside in the rain. Other than that it was awesome.
Thanks Golfnow!
Great course with great people at a great price through Golfnow. It doesn't get better then that.
Great layout, fair wide fairways and very true greens
Great layout, plenty of room to play, lots of bunkers and waste areas. Greens are nice but no worries about the pace probably around 9.5 or so. Many of the holes are beautifully designed with decisions as to where to aim and how much water to carry.
Great experience at Doral ... no hassle from Blue Monster
I really enjoyed the course and view. Blue Monster seemed very busy but White course was more relaxed. If you are not a very competitive golfer and playing with ladies, you will enjoy more at this course. Course arrangement was very confusing and not intuitive but GPS provided cart helped a little.
Unique Experience
Beautiful golf course (8/10, where Spyglass = 10). Unique because of all the crushed seashells lining every hole. Wind definitely plays a factor as do strategically placed bunkers. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in very good shape. Just enough water to keep you exercising excellent course management. Could use some guidance in the GPS or on the course markers to move from the green of one hole to the tee box of another, but this is a struggle for other golf courses too. Food and drinks are expensive unless you're a member of the Trump-owned property. Overall a great experience, so try to find this course discounted for a return trip.
If you can score a good deal...
Doral, Doral, Doral. I've only imagined the Blue Monster from what I've seen on HDTV. Too bad the PGA was coming to town, so I settled for one of it's 5 course in Great White. Considered by many to be the #2 on Doral's beautiful complex, Greg Norman's idea to create a desert-like course in the middle of Florida's swamplands was genuine. Crushed up seashells adorn the edges of the fairway and playing from it's crusty surface proved to be a challenge. All that said, for $150 golfNow deal, it was worth it to play and experience Doral. From the most technologically-advanced GPS and cart system, to the first-class hospitality, Doral was an experience I won't forget. And, if it's windy like it was for me, keep your expectations low and enjoy the beautiful scenery and wide-open golf.
For this money ( 265$) 100% not
I get a tee time 7,18 o´clock there was nobody 6,45 o clock to help you or to inform you where you have to go, so that i had not enough time to go for the range. the green are fair also the speed.
the condition requires attention. there are portable toilet at the round and the smell in this area was bad smell.
The service was on point and an overall good experience
The service was on point and an overall good experience. Keep in mind that this area is under construction with the Blue Monster being upgraded, it has multiple courses but the great white course was still in really good playing condition. Played a solo ground which always makes it better.
For the Money, NOT a Great Course
Played this course yesterday. $145 Hot Deal. There is no rough on this course. Instead, they use ground up coquina shells that serve as both the cart paths and the "rough." Didn't like that at all. It's hard to judge how to hit a shot out of it, as you won't find anything like that on another south Florida course. Maybe they intended that to make this course different, but I just found it annoying. Also made me feel like I'd mess up my clubs, as you're essentially hitting out of tiny rocks. Anyway, my other main gripe was the greens. They had been recently sanded so judging your putts was impossible. There is a TON of water that comes into play, so bring some extra balls. Since this is an expensive course, you'd think only decent golfers that knew how to play and had courtesy would play, right? WRONG! We got stuck behind this idiot foursome that spent the whole round searching for golf balls in the rocks that lined the water! We complained to the ranger, but to no avail. All he did was look on his sheet and claim that everyone was on pace according to his sheet, despite the cart saying that we were ten minutes behind pace. When we told him that, he didn't really say anything except suggest that we skip a hole, finish 18, and then come back to that hole. Awful idea and awful ranger work. Very disappointed. I spent my Golf Channel Player's Pack coupon code on this Hot Deal, and I really feel like it was a waste. For the money you spend to play here, you'd expect a decent pace of play and unsandy greens. I got neither of those things. Would not play here again, even if I hit the lotto and could afford it. The only positive was how nice the guy who gives you your golf cart was. Super friendly and super informative. Otherwise, disappointing course. Save your money.
The course it's great
A golfer will always enjoy playing in a course like this. It's challenging in terms of length and accuracy, only fairways and greens…no roughs, there are many bunkers and a lot of water. Unfortunately when I played there was a lot of wind, thus pick a day not very windy…I believe that playing this course with a bit of wind makes it unique since you feel you are playing near the beach. The vegetation it's magnificent, never saw so many palms all together.
Have fun!
This was my favorite course at Doral but I thought the condition of the greens were not up to par and only 1 set of bouse houses on the course.
This is always my favorite course at Doral but I didn't think the greens were up to par for this caliber of course. Also only one set of bouse houses on the course...bathrooms being renovated. Still loved it tho.
