The 27 championship holes at Bajamar Ocean Front Golf Club have earned the reputation of being the "Pebble Beach south of the border." Although it is located just 50 miles south of the U.S. border, the course will transport you to the British Isles with its traditional links design. The holes are divided into three nines that provide three different 18-hole combinations. The Lagos/Vista Course has plenty of variation thanks to a landscape that combines the lush Baja Hills and rocky cliffs overlooking the Pacific coastline. Golfers will be met with plenty of water on the front nine, not surprising since "lagos," translates to "lakes" in Spanish. The back nine is considered the "desert nine." It is the longest and also the most challenging of the three nines.

over charged on Green fees

They course manager charged my credit card for green fees when I paid for the room and then the next day took $150 in cash from another player. Intentional over charge.

Something different from Golf in San Diego

There are three 9 holes courses called Oceano, Lagos and Vista and I played at the seashore Oceano, from which golfers could enjoy great ocean views, and Lagos, which
was shorter but a little bit tricky. The fairway and green condition are good in the hottest and dry season now though the fairways are not so widely open and the greens are soft. It is worth driving from San Diego just enjoy the wonderful scenic views during golfing, however if you think of the throng of people and cars at the border on the way back to San Diego, golfers may hesitate to visit here. In general, this course is epic as golfers can enjoy something different from the courses in San Diego or LA. Hoping that the play fee will be reduced and the course will be well-maintained through the year.

If You're In The Area...

Unless you live in San Diego you'd probably never just come down here , but it's a very nice 70 minute drive from the border , with taco stands everywhere . I was nearby already , and had heard of the resort for years . It's very tired now but the courses are still worth the trip . Three nines , all unique , all completely empty on a Sunday afternoon when it was 68 degrees and sunny . Lagos is the shortest but is still interesting , challenging and very well laid out . Oceano , with 5 holes right on the cliffs is truly spectacular with views and shot values as good as Bandon or NSW . Vista is the longest and toughest , and when combined with Oceano carries a rating of almost 75 from the back . Forced carries , blind landing zones and even challenging lay ups . Greens a bit long but still a nice speed and plenty undulating . Unreadable grain and some pin positions available to make it a very difficult test . Fairways a bit spotty and not overly wide , are protected by bunkers and desert . Overall a delight to play , and 36/day is easily done . All the employees helpful , friendly and speak English . One night in the hotel ($79 for double...NOT the Four Seasons) and you could all three nines twice . Decent dining room and no place to go off property . Safety note . Travel from the US border is on a toll road and I never felt unsafe . Lots of Americans . Re-entering US a hassle .

Very disappointing

Love the views; my son & I played Lagos & Oceano,
I was very disappointed again. This is the 3rd time we have played there and the previous 2 times, we had the same issues come up, the cart died on us and we had to either walk back or help and push it to the cart barn. This time we had to skip the last 2 holes because a family with small kids was riding a golf cart and taking pictures of the ocean, crossing the fairways. Even after we signaled for them to get out of the way, they still would not move or leave (they had a small child running around in the fairway), needless to say, we could not tee off for fear of hitting someone. This is the 3rd time there and its not worth the hassle of driving down, paying tolls and then not being able to complete the round. There are better courses with much better service in San Diego. It will be a while for me to return or even recommend it.

The Mexican Pebble Beach? Not so fast...

I went there willing to pay the overpriced rates (got it with a discount), and even at 59.00 was way too expensive. The course is not worth the money, for with that amount I can play in far better courses in San Diego and other places. The greens have too many divots, bunkers not so soft. They charge like 110.00 in weekends.. are you kidding me? so not worth it!
Even for residents in the complex is expensive. I do not think I would like to go back. I'd rather use that money in my courses in Escondido, CA
The golf carts are old, they should at least modernize them or install GPS in them.

The Poor Man's Pebble Beach

This is as nice as golf gest in Baja California Norte, as it is well worth the visit. The course can be challenging depending on which tees you play from. I am a 13 index and elected to shoot from the middle range white tees, ending up with an 84. My wife is a 17 index and shot from the red forward tees, ending up with an 89. We played Lagos first because there was a back up on Vista. Both are nice 9 hole tracks we had played before and equally difficult. The real prize of this complex is Oceano, with it's 5 holes right on spectacular coast line, just like Pebble Beach. The cost, being Baja, is much different however ranging from the book rate of $85. per person to the Burner Golfnow.com low only some days on $39. per player. The hardest track, of course, is Oceano, only one slice or one hook, depending on right or left handed, from entering the ocean. Bring extra balls if you have difficulty hitting a drive straight. Or you could buy some from the pop up gardners who proudly announce: "Pro-V-1" in a Mexican accent. All in all, I know you will love this course.

Baja golf

Challanging golf course, not very forgiving if stray of the fairways, and that is easy to do due to the layup of most holes. The fairways were fast due to the hard soil and very short grass. The greens were very nice, ran fast and were in real good shape. The views is what you pay for here, beautiful pacific views, even in the holes not on the ocean front. Bring plenty of balls, guarantee you will loose your share. The only bad thing about this place is their golf carts, they are real old and can barely finish the round without running the batteries down. Enjoy your Mexico golf adventure!

Pebble beach of mexico

Day started off shaky, after driving 45 minutes too the golf course we were told that the oceana course was closed bc rain (course cant control the weather) and we could only play vista and lagos. But with a little haggling frm the a membet of our foursome (a very nice lieutenant in the US ARMY yevette) we got it at a great deal...let it go soldier..lol we played vista and it was spectacular and we had the course too ourselves. Then when we hit the turn we were told they would open up oceana for us and it was in great shape as well(best ocean views anywhere). IT WAS A RED LETTER DAY from the weather too the coures too the company. I would truly recommend this course and will be back

Good course conditions, terrible service

First the positive, the course is in very good (not great) condition. However, the service is really bad. Had to chase down the starter to get range balls for about 20 minutes; The range/practice area needs a lot of work.
Our cart broke down on VIsta #7 had to walk back to the pro shop to get new cart, this new cart they gave us had no windshield, no icebox, and really dirty.
So for the price it is not worth it, because your drive down there for at least 45 minutes, pay tolls, to get terrible service..... I would rather stay an play in my local course here and avoid the unpleasant experience.

That's a shame, I was thinking of going down there in the spring. Will have to rethink this.

Bajamar, PB South?

Played all 3 nines with Sixpez for $74 including a cart. Sunny, mid 70's, windy to very windy conditions, with beautiful views of the Pacific.

First, I'll start with comments that apply to all 27 holes.

The greens were smooth, receptive to holding approach shots but were medium slow. They putted true and rolled nice. However, we were both short more often than not on putts.

The tees, fairways and rough were all in good condition. Good coverage, not lush but very playable.

I was not in a greenside trap AD, but they did not look that great. More brown dirt than sand, but they had been recently raked. I would presume it would be impossible to keep fine sand in them because of the windy conditions. I was in a couple of fairway bunkers, hard packed brown dirt, good to hit longer shots out of.

The local rule is that the barranca is played as a red hazard. It's a combination of lava rocks, thick sage bushes and occasional areas that you may be able to play a wayward shot if you can find it. 50-50 if you will find your ball, but 75% chance you cannot play it even if you find it.

The Lagos 9 was a really good 9 holes of golf. It is farthest from the ocean, so no holes run directly along the coast and you have more of a desert course feel. Some blind shots and course knowledge would be beneficial. Hole #1 is a straight 433 yard par 5 from the blues, which sounds like a joke yardage wise. I presume the prevailing wind is the reason it is that short, because it plays well over 500 yards with a 25+ mph wind in your face. Par 35, three par 3's, two par 5's. The 2nd two par 3's, holes 5 & 9 were not rated that way, but they were the two hardest holes on this 9 in the wind we faced with water just off the green on multiple sides.

The Oceano 9 is the star of the complex. Four holes running directly beside the Pacific, it is Pebble Beach or Spyglass south of the border. Several more holes with awesome views. I doubt you would ever play this 9 w/o it being windy to very windy. Only one par 5 and one par 3, seven par 4's. Common theme is ocean right, barranca left, so better be accurate!

The Vista 9 was the most protected from the wind. Two different short par 3's that you tee off downhill to a green that has the Pacific as your backdrop. Probably slightly better than the Lagos 9 if I had to pick, but both were very good 9's.

This course would be a bear to walk, several tees were a LONG ways from the last green, especially as you changed 9's. Overall, highly recommended, even with the challenges of playing south of the border.

Bajama Finally!!!

It's taken me over 10 years to finally play this course and it is well worth the trip. The course was in great shape and the pace of play for a Saturday was 3 1/2 hours. Very scenic especially along the ocean. The border wait coming back was an issue even for walking, get a passport card and go through the Ready Line...

Great course but.......

One of my favorite courses. Did not really see another group all day. Really felt like we had the place to ourselves. I brought the wife and child to come see the beauty and felt the extra rider charge is really gouging the tourists. Really? $26 each
