El Tigre Club de Golf
About
Located in Nuevo Vallarta, El Tigre Club de Golf enjoys views that stretch to the western Sierra Madre. The design team of Robert Von Hagge, Mike Smelek, and Rick Baril transformed what used to be a flat piece of land into a lush, tropical paradise. Nine water features were added, which come into play on 12 holes, and the terrain was molded and contoured to provide interesting elevation changes. The golf course's proximity to the ocean means that it is also subject to strong prevailing winds, especially in the early evening. The course finishes with two of its most difficult holes. El Tigre Club de Golf's par-3 17th has plenty of sand and water in play to prepare you for the beastly par-5 finishing hole. This 621-yard monster is practically a par 6 with water down the entire left side and a green surrounded by sand.

El Tigre
Nice course for sure After I checked in the starters were super dis-organized and were letting anyone just tee off whenever - not their fault just under staffed for sure … place of play was kinda slow but typical of course full of retired old guys Some of greens were pretty beaten up which I was surprised to see (not the case at Vidanta next door) Overall challenging course but over priced compared to Vidanta or Vista Vallarta courses Too much sand for my liking but they were super soft - fine sand so very impressed compared to other local courses Clubhouse / Bar shut down before my round even finished - this is typical of PV courses Owners to cheap to pay their staff a few extra hours
Way to expensive
I don't know what is going on in PV, but golf prices have sky rocketed! Last year, I played this course 4 or 5 times for around $65-$75, this year, they want $297! This course is simply not worth over $125, at all... It's an okay course but totally flat and is basic. Fairways are as hard as rocks, so balls roll but the course is brown...
Nice course but overpriced for its condition
The course has a good layout. It's generally flat (very walkable) but the holes have a lot of contours and there's some modest elevation change. There are a lot of bunkers. When the wind is up (as it was for my round), it's definitely a challenging course. The course conditions do not justify the price. (I didn't stay at Paradise Village so I paid the guest rate of US$300. My playing partner - whose family owns a timeshare in PV - told me that PV residents/owners pay $100.) The fairways had a lot of bare/dry patches and the fringe around the greens was very poor and uneven. The greens were firm (I'm good with that) but the condition was again uneven and made judging speed/line difficult over the course of the round. I will not go back at that price and recommend Vista Vallarta and Vidanta (the Norman Course in particular) if you're going to play at that price point. Lastly, if you aren't staying at PV, then I recommend getting an Uber when it's time to leave. Getting a cab took 40 minutes (with Pro Shop assistance, which was greatly appreciated - the staff were great).
Worth the time
The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Greens were very challenging but fair. No rough really to talk about and the bunkers were a little inconsistent. The 6th par island green was fun and a real challenge. Don't know if I would pay the $260.for the round but at $99 well worth it. I would play it again.
Fun & Challenging
I'm 67 and a handicap around 18. 6th hole par 3 island green was challenging as well as pretty.. Will play it again but at twilight rates.
Summary assessment
Pace of play was slow. Course was needing a breather from too much play with beginners who don’t fix ball marks or rake traps. Very challenging layout and will play it again.
Over booked
The booking system has significant issues. When you have 12-16 players booked for the same tee time in the afternoon and it shows on the tee sheet you know that they have no controls on start times. They have 5 minute spacing and the cart says you are behind yet you’re waiting every shot. Come on El Tigre. Get your business in order and provide a golf experience your customers expect.
Nice course fun and challenging
Would recommend to play if you are in Nuevo Vallarta.
El Tigre Tee Time CHEATING
We confirmed our 3:30pm tee time reservations thru Golfnow. It appears that El Tigre does not protect Golfnow Tee Times and booked us in between their already booked 3:30pm and 3:40pm tee times slotting us in at 3:35pm. That is only a 5 MINUTE gap which is much to tight and as a result combined with the late start 3:50pm due to so many compressed tee times we did NOT have enough time (daylight) to finish our round which we paid FULL price for. They should have told us or discounted our green fees.....Bad Customer Service...
Good course but pricey.
Not that I had a great score but I thought the course would be a bit more challenging. Lots of bunkers and water, however, it you can hit the ball straight, not that difficult.
Not worth it
The amount of money you pay for this course, is not worth it. The course was brown, the food was terrible, we got someone’s left over waters in a cooler not cold with no ice. They didn’t clean our clubs. It may be a one off, but it was absolutely brutal for the price we paid. In 18 holes we saw the beverage cart twice. Spend your money at another course, this course was the worst we’ve played in this area.
Fooled again...
Ironically, I signed up to play here because I was told the conditions at the marina were pretty poor, and the pace of would be very slow. The conditions are pretty poor and the pace of play is very slow. But this was $100 more expensive, so it's got that going for it which is nice. The GPS system on the carts is one of the worst I've ever seen. It adds an extra degree of frustration to an already frustrating round. If you want to play golf in Puerto vallarta, and you cannot either get out to Vista or get on to the four seasons, go play at the marina. At least you'll save the money.
Long and Challenging
This was our first time trying this course. It was in excellent shape with nice wide fairways. Very challenging. Bring a few extra balls as you may need them.
