Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club
About
Located just south of Cancun between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club stand outs from the relatively flat landscape that surrounds it. The course has a surprisingly hilly terrain that features dramatic elevation changes, so prepare for uneven lies. The golf course was carefully carved from Mayan jungle, which was kept in tact to provide a treacherous hazard throughout. The layout was designed by P.B. Dye, who incorporated some of his signature features including extreme vertical movement and untraditional hazards like a rock riverbed. With its narrow fairways and undulating greens bordered by deep bunkers, the golf course is considered one of Dye's toughest designs. Warming up on the club's lighted driving range, or putting green would be helpful before tackling this demanding golf course.

Cancun
Very challenging for all levels great staff very friensly good price for the zone
very poor experience.....
booked tee time prior to 7:00 am, course was closed, driving range was closed, never got water or drinks, never got food...over priced and absolutely not worth it....
Sure to Please!
I've played many places in both the US and Mexico and this definitely ranks up there. Nice variety of holes with different elevations. The place is very well maintained from tee to green. If you've watched the Big Break in the season where this course was featured you'll have fun playing the holes you loved there as well.
One of the best values for the money
This was a delightful experience. Green fees include range balls, lunch, AND beverage cart !!!! Who would have thought? Extremely friendly staff and pleasant experience. Course sets up well and offers a moderate challenge with very good conditioning.
What you expect from a Dye course
Not a long course, but requires a straight tee shot on all holes. Fairly typical for any Dye course that I have played. Well maintained, we were first off and finished under 3 hours. Staff were great, free beverages on the course, better value than El Camaleon.
My review is tainted by the unexpected aeration of the courses greens
Beware if you read that the course is being aerated. We played on a day that the back nine only would be playable. That would have been fine, but the greens were completely covered in sand. They were glorified sand traps and thoroughly unputtable. They should NEVER have taken our money to be frank, and should have closed the course during this process. The "free" food included indeed was just that as were any drinks that we ordered. We should have had more to drink. We decided that all balls on the green were to be counted as two putts and that the first putt should never be short. We would have loved to play this course on a day when the course was "open". Not something that we will do again when we return to Playa del Carmen.
Best in the Mayan
Love this course. One of the best in the Mayan Riviera.
This course was in great shape and the greens were pristine.
Playing again tomorrow and booking through Golfnow.com as they will save you about 30%.
Don't hesitate to play this course.
Beautiful, challenging, service could be slightly better
This is the second time I played this course, first time I've played all 18 since they only had the front 9 open 4 years ago when I was here. First the annoyances: I made my tee time on golfnow.com for 8:20, showed up at 7:15 so I could relax, warm up, etc. Was informed when I checked in that due to a "situation" on the course I could not tee off until at least 9:30 and that likely only the back 9 would be open. Turns out they were filming " Big Break" for the Golf Channel that day. My only complaint would be that they should have let me know (email, phone, no attempts made) so that I could have planned better since I was abandoning my wife and two very young children for the morning, and that they were so concerned with me not trying to jump onto the course any earlier that they wouldn't even let me put my clubs and belongings on to a cart until about 15 minutes prior to my start time.
I easily got over that initial annoyance however because while I waited I hit plenty of range balls and had a very tasty and very large breakfast with fresh-ground coffee, all of which of course was included with my greens fee, making this in my mind the best value in the Cancun-Riviera Maya area, whether or not you stay at the Iberostar (I did not). The course is difficult but not too punishing, and I blame most of the difficulty on my rust (my first time out since last Fall), and the wind which was blowing about 15-20 mph. Ball placement is key if you want to score, and the greens were hard and fast. The course was perfectly manicured, and I love the design. Played in 4:25, which is very reasonable. Total cost was $180 including clubs rental (Titleist Dr-5 wd + forged irons), and like I said food and drink is included as well. Excellent course at a very good price. I think if you stay at the Iberostar you can play for $49, which is a STEAL.
