The courses at Moon Spa & Golf Club sprawl across the rolling Riviera Maya landscape, incorporating all of the native wetlands and lush Mayan jungle. The golf course is Jack Nicklaus' first in Cancun. He created three different nines: Jungle, Lakes, and Dunes. As their names would indicate, Nicklaus took advantage of the diverse landscape to create three unique courses that offer different challenges but the same quality of design. The Jungle nine bears the brunt of the treacherous jungle growth. It is ready and waiting to swallow up even slightly errant shots. Golfers will also have to contend with the native wetlands that come into play on a few holes as well as the strategically placed bunkers that frame the greens. In addition to the 27-hole golf course, the club also features a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

Staff sucked

Booked through golf now instead of directly though the course. Staff was a little rude when I checked in, once they found out I booked through golf now.

Got outside, starter was great. Bartender on the course was great.

There were also two guys at the little cart hut that I coulda done without, pretty rude.

I won’t get too much into the weeds on the ride conversations, all I’ll say is it is by far the worst I’ve ever been treated while spending multiple hundreds of dollars for golf. Still a great course, had a great time while golfing. But I wouldn’t go back.

Nice course, but overpriced

There’s no doubt it’s a beautiful and fun track, but the bunkers were a travesty. For $300, I expected bunkers that had decent sand, not rocks and mud. I was in them more than I’d like to admit and more than half the time there wasn’t even a rake. Aside from the horrible bunkers, the staff was fantastic and friendly and the fairways, tee boxes and greens were in great condition. The free refreshments between Jungle and Lakes was a really nice touch.

Cenotes as hazards! Drinks and lunch are included!

Service: The staff was nothing but amazing! First class MVP all the way! From the chica that checked me in to the cart chico who took the rental clubs and did the count, they were all amazing! $300 is their normal rack rate, and yes that is steep but ALL golf in Mexico is stupid expensive. Using the golf now deal I played for $250 with rentals* and I would like to point out that everything is included in your grees fees. Cart, greens fees, pratice balls, drinks, snacks, and lunch(turn or after). I asked of this was for ever golfer and they said it was. I was shocked! They have these cortesía houses and you can get all the snacks and drinks you want. I got loads of snacks, six maragritas(doubles, they were club sized), and six beers that I took home/shared with my taxi driver.

The course: They have three nines and used that to their advantage to space out play. I did not see another golfer till #17! Play Dunes & Lakes. The fairways do NOT run at all! So many times I came to my ball and the impact mark was right there. Some guys at the turn confirmed this as did the cart chicos. This and the wind makes this place play long! Beautiful course! Mexico has this rock sand they get from the ocean. It has shells and stuff in the mix. This makes bunker play VERY difficult! Club up to get out of the bunkers. The greens were like carpets and rolled true IMO. Loads lf wildlife too! Bring your camera/charge your phone!

*The Bad: my rentas were Epics from a.few years ago and they needed to be regripped, the entire bag! My putter was shameful how bad the grip was. The only other issue I had was their yardage, no posts on one of the nines I played and the yardage on the sprinkler yardage was WAY off! A major area for improvement but that is about it.

If you are complaining that golf is too expensive on vacation in Mexico than you should pick a new sport or stick to goat tracks. Mayacobar is $400+$80 in rentals and they charge for riders! Now that is expensive!

Not worth the money

The staff is overworked, the course is overbooked and even showing up an hour early with my own clubs it still turned into a rush just to get to the first tee. Be warned that it is a resort club offering free play to guests. They do zero to insure you play with similar skilled players. This is usually not a big deal untill you get paired with someone who has never played befor a shoots a 120. This makes for a very long, boring day. The course itself is ok. Tee boxes pretty rough, fairways were great, bunkers are mostly gravel that we decided to not even play out of since they were so. The greens are ok but covered in said gravel from previous bunker shots. We had to use the bunker rakes to clear the green. The drunk guy riding around with his shirt off could have been the highlight of the day (course has free beers and drinks). I’m not uppity, but for $300 you just expect it to be better.

Worth EVERY penny

First time in Cancun and I wanted to experience the best golf course and I was not disappointed. From the time you arrive till the time you leave the service is top notch and the grounds are immaculate. I played in the afternoon to save money and get the unlimited so I could play all 3 nines and it was perfect. The Dunes was my personal favorite, it felt like every single hole was a “signature hole”. The wildlife was spectacular and the course conditions, especially tees and greens were absolutely flawless. I can’t wait to come back again.

Still Amazing

So it’s my birthday again and I’m in .Cancun. So of course I go and play Moon Palace which I played on my birthday a few years ago.

Unfortunately , Coviid has freaked out everyone and I have a PGA level golf course almost entirely to myself.
I’m an decent golfer 16-18 , and I play all three nines in about four hours.

Nice Birthday !

Overall, I would rate the courses at Moon Palaces as EXCELLENT. We played all 3 nine holes...the Jungle , Dunes and Lakes 3 times... Nice layout and somehow challenging. We played from the white . Fairways, greens, rough, and tee boxes were in impeccable shape. Traps were tough but very nice, .this is a must play course if you are staying at Moon Palace.

We brought our own shoes, balls and gloves and clubs . Bring your own balls. Buying is expensive

golf unlimited instead of room credits to cover the greens fees, but you will have to pay for the cart US $38).

no GPS. Buy a yardage book at the pro shop for US $3.

Courses was a bit crowded.

Over priced

Disclosure: I ot to play this as comp for attending a ownership presentation.
Beautiful facility but if you where to pay for this course then you can get far better value. A course of this statue should have gps avail or yardage books at the very least provided.
This can be a very challenging course if you do not play the yardage to you cap. I've layer here before but my son had not and he lost over 10 balls!
Plenty of refreshments stations on the course and everything is included with your green fee.
Rental clubs were he latest Callawys and in very good condition - just needed getting used to (I'm a Cobra guy)
The biggest surprise for us was the lunch afterwards - the very best Mexican fare we have experienced on our 16 day vacation - really really excellent.
So, play within your cap, stay patient and take LOTS of golf balls with you
Peace & Love.

Moon Palace Golf Review

First, my background. I am an avid golfer from the U.S., a member at a private club and a 12 HC. We played on May 2, 2017. Overall, I would rate the courses at Moon Palaces as EXCELLENT. We played the Dunes and Lakes. Incredible layout and very challenging. We played from the blues (6,600 yds). Fairways, greens, rough, and tee boxes were in impeccable shape. Traps were pretty rough. Sand was very hard, almost like clay. However, this is a must play course if you are staying at Moon Palace.

Important notes:
We brought our own shoes, balls and gloves. Rented clubs (US $42). Bring your own balls. Buying a dozen on site will cost $80-$120.
You can use room credits to cover the greens fees, but you will have to pay the taxes (US $40).
Load up on waters before heading out...only two beverage stations are located on the course.
There is no GPS. Buy a yardage book at the pro shop for US $3.
We were a 3-some and our round took 4.5 hours. Course was not overly crowded. It was just a tough layout that took time to play.

Jack had a blast designing these 9 holes... WOW!

My review for Dunes is simple... the toughest of the 3 nines at Moon Palace but fun to play for the intermediate to advanced player. The design is fantastic and the yardage is underestimated by a long shot.

Have fun!!! This one is well worth it.

Course is nice, management is a disaster

We booked a tee time for 2:30, showed up to play and with no warning, they moved our time to 4:06. At this point we got a little upset and tried reasoning with first the woman behind the desk and then with the starter. The starter lied to us and told us he could get us on at 3:30 for sure and maybe even earlier. 3:30 rolls around we approach him he says he'll call us when he's ready. At 4:15 we finally tee off. By this time there's not enough daylight left over to play the whole round.. After paying for such an expensive round, I would expect better. And it seemed like most golfers there were having similar issues.. I will never go back again

No towels, no Ts, no score card, no pencils, very few and poor quality rakes in the sand bunkers. A course like this at home for half the price would be out of business in two months. Someone tell Jack!!!

Add to your list to play!

Nicklaus designed this course well. I played the Dunes and Lakes . A nice blend of holes weaved through tropical vegetation with well positioned deep white sand bunkers and lakes very much in play. Caution: Cancun time changed 2/1/15, your "real" starting time will be an hour later than you planned. The starter did his best to get off as soon as possible, however starting at 2:30PM local time just allowed for enough time to finish before dark! You will be glad you played here. If you do not get a discounted rate I would play Iberostar Pariso which I believe is a better value and just another 15 minutes further by car from Cancun.

Incredible value

I strongly recommend the course, particularly if you get a discount on GolfNow... it's truly all inclusive, so the sandwiches and beers and range balls are free. Great service.
