Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Weiskopf Course

About
Vista Vallarta Golf Club offers two championship courses, one designed by Jack Nicklaus and the other by Tom Weiskopf. The Weiskopf Course provides a dramatically different round from the Nicklaus design. The other golf course sits atop the property's highest elevation while this one is situated at the lower west end. As you step onto the course and see the dense jungles that sprawl across deep ravines, you will hardly believe that it is still the same property. It offers the same level of challenge as the Nicklaus Course but some high handicappers prefer this one since there are fewer blind shots and the greens are more receptive, making them not quite as tricky. The 15th is an uphill par 3 that is probably the golf course's most memorable hole. This challenging hole requires a carry past a ravine to multi-tiered green that is surrounded by bunkers on all sides.

Traps
We love both courses at Vista Vallarta and you can find good values through GolfNow. The one thing that brings this course down is the sand in the traps. It is literally the worse sand that I have even experienced, it would be better suited as concrete aggregate. Extremely large grain sand and full of pebbles and rocks.
best experience I had over a week in Puerto Vallarta
I played a solo round, and finished in around three hours.. I shot 95 from the Blues (which is about normal for me) and the course conditions were great, and everyone was super friendly and helpful..
it's a bit out of the way from the city, but well worth the Uber ride.. maybe just a bit more expensive than I would like, but that's all of the Puerto Vallarta courses, so I wouldn't hesitate to play this course (or the Vista Vallarta Nicklaus course that I played in 8/2022) again
Overall a great experience. Unfortunately our food order took an hour and a half.
The course was good value. Nice layout and good greens. Too bad about the crappy service though. Food took forever (over an hour and a half!) and it’s a small thing but kinda irritating that you only get water for your cart if you play the Nicklaus Course. A small water bottle isn’t included in Carts on the Weiskopf course. It’s the little things. And that’s just next level cheap. If they upped their service game the experience would be way better.
It’s a Nice golf course though.
Played Nicklaus course
There was an outing on the Weiskolp course so I got to play Nicklaus instead without up charges. Beautiful course with some spectacular views but very challenging for all but the most accurate strikers.
Interesting
Played in the late afternoon by myself in just over two hours. The course has interesting holes, and the conditioning is very good. Mr. Wieskoff likes the deep hazards and there a number of these to navigate, though probably more visually distracting that actually in play. I had a great time, despite the high winds, and at the price I paid ($125) I would certainly recommend.
The one piece I found troubling was the stark contrast between the living conditions you see on the way to the course and the beautiful facility where the course is located on the edge of town. My previous review got flagged so I am being more careful this time. You might not give it much mind, but I found it jarring and will leave it at that.
Fun and Fair... Must Play
If your in the Puerto Vallarta area, the Vista Vallarta Golf Course is a place you have to play. The location is a little out of the way, but worth the drive. The Weiskopf course is fun yet fair as the holes are well guarded by bunkers but the greens are generous and always in good condition.
Slower than normal
Generally the course is pretty empty at 3 pm and I can play fast as a single. Today, the course was packed, and I had to skip 4 holes to find an opening. Disappointing.
Vista Vallarta never disappoints
During our recent stay in Nuevo Vallarta we play the Nicholas and Weiskopf courses.
We found the Nicklaus course to be more challenging.
The Weiskopf course had better views of the mountains and the layout was beautiful.
We golf at these courses every time we go to Nuevo Vallarta.
I Highly recommend the trip up into the mountains.
Vista Vallarta a great course in the jungle
Played Weisskopf at Vista Vallarta. A challenging but fair course. Gorgeous views from the course to the mountains. Greens are in great shape and fairways are good as well. Bunkers would need some work. Overall very enjoyable and one of my favourite courses in PV.

Beautiful course. Greens were fast and true. Scenically fabulous. Challenging for sure.
The abject poverty on the drive in was an eye opener.
Once at the course the rest of the world fades away and one realizes how incredibly fortunate we are to have the opportunity to do such trivial pursuits.
A great round on a great layout.
Thank the gods for the life I have and the good fortune to live where I live.
