Part of a large tree farm whose crop is irrigated by two lakes, Twin Lakes is one of the best values in the state. An outstanding, challenging track, despite the fact that it was designed by the landowner, the course is not crowded and the golf is spectacular. You’ll notice how around half the holes play through the East Texas pines, while the other half play over and around the lakes. The course is long at 7,200 yards from the tips, and over 6,600 from the men’s tees. Even the short holes are difficult, with strategically placed bunkers and difficult pin placements.
One of these is No. 9, perhaps one of the most difficult par 3s in the state. It rests along the lake with a huge tree to the left of the green that sucks in anything on that side. The wind howls off the lake and your subconscious tells you to aim right because of the tree. Anything less than perfect will find the water on the right. Less confident golfers sometimes lay up with a wedge, hoping to get their chip close enough for a one-putt. Considering the penalties that are possible on this hole, this isn’t always a dumb move.

Great course
For the middle of winter - great shape! Always a challenge and we'll kept.
Plays long
If you like a challenge and enjoy putt putt you'll love the course. The slope of the greens are such that if you don't put it in the hole it will roll forever. It was like playing putt putt. The ball rolled up to the hole and then rolled down and off the green. First it was frustrating then it turned to funny
A favorite
There's a reason why this course has a 98% recommended rate from reviewers. This course is always in great shape and I just love the layout. A really fun but challenging course that always causes you to think. No two holes are alike, except for maybe two par 5's. Other than that, each hole is original. We played a couple of weeks ago when we had gotten several inches of rain and the course drained so well it was unbelievable. We also couldn't believe how fast the greens were with how wet they were. This is a favorite of ours and it's always worth the drive, especially considering the value.
Home course
Love this course, sad that everything is brown this time of year. Water hazards on 6 holes, are a real challenge. The crew maintainence is great. Greens even in winter months are well maintained. I would play this course exclusively if need be. Today's play was a real challenge due to 20-30 mph wind. Because the fairways are so well maintained that I got great rolls on the fairways.
Very soft but fast greens
Cold and wet conditions from recent rains. They were also watering the course when I got there which made for some really wet areas. Greens were very soft but were very difficult if you were anywhere but directly below the cup. Some of my shots hit close to the hole rolled off the green on a well struck shot. Had numerous 5 to 10 foot second putts since the greens were rolling so fast. Had a lot of 3 and 4 putts to make this my highest score of the year. Can't imagine how fast the greens are in the summer time! Even though I like the layout of the course I may not be coming back because of the greens. If you like really fast and sloping greens this is the course for you.
Hidden Gem
Played this past Friday 12/9/16. Our wives had a conference in Dallas and a buddy and I decided to make the trip to Canton after seeing previous reviews. Have to say this course was great. It was cold out so we were practically the only ones on the course. Great layout. Challenging in spots, but easier spots as well. Scenic lake views all around. 18th hole is great. Head pro Randy was very nice and accomodating and the service at the bar was great as well. If you are in Dallas and don't mind an hour drive (not bad with the 75 mph speed limits) this course is one that should be played. My friend and I have already discussed coming back if we are in the area again.
pin placement
very fast & un-fair................makes for a bad round of golf with friends.................needs to be address in this kind of weather..................the ball you putted goes up to the hole & rolls back down..........you have to play a two putt rule..................tee markers also needed to moved around..........to much wear
My favorite track
This may be a bit of a haul from the DFW area, but it is worth it in my opinion to experience this little slice of heaven. For a fraction of the price of most courses located in Dallas this course really has it all; beautiful surroundings, challenging layout, ZERO houses (except for the mansion on the hill) and super friendly staff. Every time I go experience another course I constantly ask myself "does this live up to any of my experiences at Twin Lakes" .... so far none have.
East Texas golf at its finerst
There's something different about playing golf in East Texas - peaceful, pine trees, relaxed atmosphere. And it doesn't get any better than what Twin Lakes has to offer with a relaxed resort like atmosphere. Beautiful views of the lakes, country side, and tree nursery. The course itself is fun ... a good mixture of challenging water holes, long par fives, soft greens, and East Texas beauty. Can't wait to see this course in the spring when the flowers are blooming.
Course with water challenges
The course was fairly wet after recent August rains and thus not much roll. However fairways and greens were excellent.
Several holes have long carries over water and with being a senior player, I am always looking for a bailout route.
Periodically they have great discounts thru course and Golfnow.
Will play aqain and again. .(Good Lord willing).
vere nice course
Twin lakes is a very nice course if u ever play this course u will be back I would said that twin lakes is in the top 5 course in texas
What a gem!
This was my first time playing Twin Lakes and boy, was it worth the drive from Dallas.
This course has everything you don't get from usual public play in the metroplex - tall pine trees, rolling hills, lakes and no houses or backyards.
Truly a great experience and just over an hour from downtown Dallas. I will definitely be back!
Distant beauty
My first time playing this course but it will not be my last. The course gets your attention from the first tee with a forced carry over water that looks more intimidating than it really is. The course was in great condition and all but one of the greens were in excellent shape. The course was not particularly busy so we did see a couple groups of more than 4 but it did not affect pace of play as we (3some) finished in about 3.5 hours.
I recommend this course and will definitely be back.
Hot Summer Golf
Other than a few shots that are just too long for me to make it was a great course. Play moved along nice and course was in great shape.
Txdeer
Course was in great condition as usual!!!! Had the jr pga championship going on so had to wait for about 1/2 hour after my tee time to tee off!!! They were plugging the greens so I had to skip two holes!!!! Had a good round even tho it was hot,had plenty of cold water on the course but didn't have anyone driving around in the cart with drinks and snacks!!!!
Twin lakes review
What a pleasant surprise. The course is beautiful, in great shape, and a blast to play. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the layout is both fun and challenging. I WILL be back.
Great Course
It might be a drive for some but this is a gem of a course and well worth the drive. The fairways and greens are in great shape.
Best course in east Texas
Course was in amazing shape. Great layout, greens were great. I would recommend this course to anyone.
