About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Part of a large tree farm whose crop is irrigated by two lakes, Twin Lakes is one of the best values in the state. An outstanding, challenging track, despite the fact that it was designed by the landowner, the course is not crowded and the golf is spectacular. You’ll notice how around half the holes play through the East Texas pines, while the other half play over and around the lakes. The course is long at 7,200 yards from the tips, and over 6,600 from the men’s tees. Even the short holes are difficult, with strategically placed bunkers and difficult pin placements.
One of these is No. 9, perhaps one of the most difficult par 3s in the state. It rests along the lake with a huge tree to the left of the green that sucks in anything on that side. The wind howls off the lake and your subconscious tells you to aim right because of the tree. Anything less than perfect will find the water on the right. Less confident golfers sometimes lay up with a wedge, hoping to get their chip close enough for a one-putt. Considering the penalties that are possible on this hole, this isn’t always a dumb move.

Beautiful Course
We've played Twin Lakes a couple of times and this is the best condition it's been in. The greens were perfect as were the fairways. The rough was a little long making it difficult to find balls even when you knew exactly where they were supposed to be. The starter said the rough was going to be cut back a little in the next week or so - will be really good then. Really enjoyed it! If you plan on getting food at the turn, make sure you enter your order in early or you'll be waiting and may lose your spot.
Twin Lakes
This is course requires accuracy from the tips as most holes have bunkering around the 270-310 landing area. If you lay back of that distance you'll have a long iron into into about half the par fours. Maybe all but 1 par 3 bring water into play and bait you with a tough pin location. The greens were in fantastic shape and rolled true.
Perfect getaway
When booking the tee time I was a little nervous since the course was located in Canton. I was worried it would be dried up and not very good since it was so far out of the metroplex. I WAS VERY WRONG. Driving up to the course was a beautiful experience seeing all the different trees at the tree farm that's located around the golf course. The golf course was in excellent shape and I couldn't get over how peaceful and quiet it was while playing. I have added this to my list of favorite courses and I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys golf as much as I do.
Wow
Great course... Bring your A game. The greens are in very good condition.. The course is hard but after playing a few times you will know where to miss and how the score.
Great course and view
I would recommend this to everyone. It's a place that all golfers would love to play . So if you get a chance come on out the staff is great and the amenity are awesome. This course has great features.
Diamond in the rough
I LOVE this course. Shot best round. No other public course like it in East Texas.
Wonderful
It's like being on a separate part of the world! One of the most beautiful places to play! The course conditions are immaculate. If nothing else make sure you hit the practice putting green before your round to get the speed cuz their Quicker than you would expect... In a good way. Leave all your real world worries behind and Treat yourself to a day at Twinlakes!
A premium course
Spectacular course. I have played on many premium cursea in Myrtle Beach. This course exceeds them all. Great greens. Beautiful views. A great value. Somewhat challenging but very fair.
Mr Smith
A beautiful course. Some of the very best greens in East Texas.
Probably my favorite course played so far
First time playing there and probably one of the best courses I've ever been too personally. The course is amongst a tree farm so there are no shortage of trees on the course. Lots of fairways lined in trees. Loved that extra pressure to hit it down the center though. The practice greens were much like you'd be playing out on the course. Greens were slow but true to roll. Lots of greens with angulations and some with different tiers with added pressure to get on the right one. The scenery is fantastic loved looking over the lush countryside. The only complaint I have is this www my first time going there and was coming from 2 1/2 hours away to test out the course, hit some traffic and was ten minutes late for the tee time and the guy acted like he didn't want to let us play. Definitely didn't want us to play alone as a twosome so we waited for an hour and half for a twosome to be paired with then ended up playing by ourselves anyways because the twosome wanted to play alone that we were paired with? But overall it's a fantastic course to play. Some water to deal with too but just adds to the challenge.
Wonderful layout...
Great layout, enjoyed the round, putts were a bit slow, grass maybe needed a closer cut. Clean open layout, likely thands to the surrounding tree nursery. Will be back!
Couldn't recommend this course more
The thing I keep wanting to say is that this course is unlike any other in Dallas and that's cause it's not. Still the 45 minute to an hour drive from 635/75 it takes to get to it is well worth it. If this course, with the same East Texas setting, was in Dallas it'd be where the PGA tournament would be held. Just check with course for any tournaments before you head out. I got caught on the back end of one so front took a little longer than "pace" but then opened up on back.
Beautiful course
This course has absolutely the prettiest views I've ever seen.
Love this place
I love a course with a few blind shots...makes you really think. Very nice layout of holes with nice bunkering. Wide fairways and some forced carries will keep you excited hole to hole. There are great views of the many lakes from most of the holes. One thing....IMPORTANT...... .keep your balls below the hole......mega fast greens. If you find yourself above a hole...you will most likely have a 6-7 ft second putt back uphill. I'm a pretty good putter...if you are not...this course will tear you up if you do not stay below the holes. This was my first time here...and I will be back many more times.
A place to seek out
Super course. FAST greens. I'll be back every time my travels take me anywhere near it.
This course has a beautiful layout
A beautiful course with nice fairways , great greens and a lot of sand traps . A great reasonable course.
We appreciate your comments. We are planning on adding a bit more sand to some of the bunkers but this takes time as there are so many. They sure keep it interesting and fun though! Enjoy.
Excellent Course/Poor Customer Service
The course is one of the best, if not the best course in the area. Very challenging, but can be forgiving. It is well maintained and is usually is great playing condition. The customer service is horrible in my opinion. The customer service representatives seem to care less if you are there or not. I will say that the friendliest people that work at Twin Lakes is the maintenance guys as they always speak when they pass you. The people in the pro shop won't even do that. If the employees did the bare minimum in customer service this course would always be full of guest, but they don't and I've never found this course full. We played on a Saturday morning (bad weather lurking, but we never got wet) and we only saw about 4-5 other groups on the course. We were never once thanked for coming out or anything that would lead us to believe that our business was important to them.
Thank you for you comments on the course, but I'm so very sorry to hear you didn't receive the same level of service from our pro shop staff. Hospitality is a top priority here and I will follow up with our staff to make sure this never happens again. We truly do appreciate you making the drive to the course and braving the weather. I would like to offer you another chance to experience the friendly staff of Twin Lakes. Please contact me at cdekkers@twinlakesgolfcourse.com and I will make arrangements.
This course has plenty of water
When we got to the course it had rained for a couple of hours just before we got there. The course drained very well and had minimal problems with standing water only the bunkers were unplayable. Greens are very challenging and fairways are plush.
We are glad you came to play in spite of the weather. We are very blessed to have a course that drains well. It broke my heart to see courses under water this past month. Even after two weeks of rain the only hole that was soggy here was #17. It has since dried up, been mowed, and is ready for action. We hope to host you again.
Great course
I live close by and when ever I want to challenge my self to see how good or not so good I am I play here! If I play by my self I can play in about 2 hours and 45 mins as long as there are no events going on. This time it worked out that I had 6 groups tee of in front of me having a mini tournament and would not let me through so it took me 5 hours and 15 mins, I waited on every shot!! It was painful at best!!! But the course was great as always.
Kevin
Thank you for playing Twin Lakes, neighbor. I am sorry to hear you were stuck behind a group the last time you played. We are getting busier as more people hear about us so make sure you call for a tee time and we can get you out ahead of a group or if you send us a message on the GPS that you cannot pass a group we can place you elsewhere. We want everyone to enjoy their time here and we will help in whatever way we can to make sure it happens.
Great course
This course is in great condition. Only bad thing I saw with the course is all the bunkers. If you play well out of the bunkers you are good to go. Overall great course for the price.
We appreciate your kind comments. The views are indeed breathtaking, especially in the early morning and before dusk. We are planning on adding some more color to the landscape in the coming weeks. You must come out and see!
Thank you! We hope you can come out through the changing seasons and enjoy the beauty from the azaleas in the spring to the roses through the summer and the colorful leaves in the fall.
