About
Club Campestre San Jose, designed by the world-famous Jack Nicklaus Signature enterprise, is home to 18 picture-perfect, championship-style holes of golf. This is the first course to use the saltwater-resistant “Paspalum” grass, which means that its maintenance is more effective at local latitudes and under local desert conditions. Amazing Nicklaus layout
Get ready for a challenge on the very picturesque layout.
Mostly left to right as Jack prefers with undulating fairways and greens as well as multi level greens that Jack always seem to elevate above your approach. Very challenging and rewarding as the greens roll true.
Must play if staying in the area
Hate to write a great review because I like playing this course without a crowd. For us this is a must play course and a great value if your staying in the San Jose area.
Better Than Advertised...
Played Quivira, Palmilla, & Club Campestre in a four day stretch. Had heard that Campestre would be the worst of the three.... Was pleasantly surprised and actually liked it way better than Palmilla at a little better price as well. Greens were great and I liked that it was less "resorty" feeling than Palmilla was. Was an enjoyable round.
Very fun course
Club Campestre has great views all around and most importantly, is very fun to play. Carts have built-in GPS, which is quite helpful; fairways are wide, and sand traps had real, smooth sand in them. Greens were fast and tricky, but receptive and spotless.
Yes, this course does not have any ocean holes, but it has plenty of views, and overall felt like better value for the money than more expensive courses in Cabo.
A few small negatives, that should in no way deter you from playing: compared to the back tees, the forward tees (whites and reds) feel like an afterthought, sometimes literally placed on the side of the fairways. Oh, and the bag drop wasn't easy to find, maybe an additional sign or two would be helpful.
Awesome
Awesome course just be careful to ask prices on the beverage cart.
Add a vodka and did not ask first and cost me 20us$ for one drink!
Nicklaus gone wild
I enjoyed this course. I really did.
I also have a duty to warn others of the overly difficult greens Jack Nicklaus designed. At least five times my playing partner and I hit what we thought were really good chips or approach shots, only to watch them tossed aside by false fronts or ridges and end up somewhere dreadful. Come on, Jack. Not all of us have 18 major championships.
This course doesn't deliver some of the other staples of Cabo golf - no ocean holes or comfort stations - but there are a few nice panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez along the way. The routing has no bad holes and quite a few good ones. You'll be glad you played here.
Very pleasant surprise
This is the third course we played in the Los Cabos area. We previously played Diamante (Dunes) and Vidanta San Jose.
The layout is a wonderful Nicklaus design... with spacious fairways, numerous hazards (LOTS of bunkers, arroyos and some water) but they are right in front of you and force you to think about your strategy on the hole; large, undulating greens that insist you hit the correct portion of the green to avoid 3-putts,, as some pin placements are in small sections.
I played blue, my wife played red. As a 24 handicapper, she was very happy this course is "chick-friendly" in terms of distance, but has "tee-appropriate" water hazards and fairway bunkers that required her to think about tee shots, as well. The carts have full-featured GPS, which neither Diamante nor Vidanta have.
There is an excellent short game practice area and range (balls included in the price). Although not on the water, the scenery is very nice with lots of views of the Sea of Cortez. Three holes are on the North side of the highway.
The staff was very friendly, rest stations located after #4, #7, #9, #15. There was a drink cart on course and Drinks and food available at the turn after 9 and 18. Ice cold towels after the round are a great touch. We will definitely play here again!
