Terribel Experience
The only positive I can write about the experience is I played golf. The check in process was bad. The staff acted as if we were a bother. We had tee times at after 11:00 AM, they had NO carts for us or anyone We had to wait for groups to return carts. At our scheduled time we watched a college team sit with FIVE carts talk for 15 minutes before they returned their carts. We were eight players with two tee times The pace of play was nerly five hours, we never saw a marshal. The greens were acceptable, but the remainder of the course was in terrible condition. Bunkers were mud pits, many dead and bare spots on the fairways. Our carts began to lose power on the 11th hole. We had to call SIX TIMES before anyone would answer the phone. At times I had to push the original cart as my wife drove. We played three holes before a replacement cart arrived. I would not suggest anyone play this course. of the 200+ courses I have played accross North America and Europe, this has to be in the bottom FIVE for all time worst. We will not return.
Nickle and Dime Prices During Twilight
BLUF: If you want to play a cheaper Twilight rate, don't come here. Pro Shop will nickle and dime you with fee's and you'll be playing through the sprinklers, even as you try to putt.
I have never had a poor experience here before, especially from the Pro Shop staff. But after this experience, I'll be hard pressed to return, especially if the certain gentleman running the Pro Shop this day is there again.
We arrived around 530pm. Normally a $26 Twilight rate that includes a cart, and even says it on the receipt. But the Pro Shop would not let myself and my buddy ride solo without an additional fee. If this was 7am, I would understand....but not when its 530pm on a slow weekday and that cart has already been recycled from earlier (aka you made your money on the cart already).
After paying the additional fee (In theory, I now paid for the whole cart), we returned to our vehicles in the parking lot to pick up our golf bags and wives. Just trying to have a nice little outing to enjoy ourselves after work, but here comes the Pro Shop gentleman in his cart...he now staes that we there is a passenger fee since our wives are there but that he "was doing us a favor and not going to charge us". So then why come out to the parking lot to tell us you wanted to charge me ANOTHER FEE, basically for another HALF cart. I already paid for the full cart. Had we not already bought the other half of the cart....I would understand and would have paid the passenger fee.
It was completely unprofessional and very distasteful. We are trying to introduce our wives to the game of golf, (they didn't play, but instead explaining the game as we go with rules) and this gentleman acts like this.
After all of this happened, we had to play the entire round with the sprinklers on throughout the course, even playing through them or waiting for them to turn away from our golf balls so we could hit. UNBELIEVABLE.
Overall condition of the course was pretty good given the heat, but if you're going to water the course. Turn of the timers and do it by hand behind the golfers.
Good value for your money
We played a tournament there, the greens were ok but way better than the previous month, still need some work there. Overall the conditions were great.
JR
All was just fine with the exception of the mosquitoes---they were absolutely terrible, all of us fought them for about 80% of the round--I am so bitten up right now--not had this many bites all season down here----
great course
Great day except that day it was so windy. we had to use our Texas drive....Wind over 25 mph..
The Course was Awesome
Walkers (9 holes) in front made the pace of play very slow, 5 hours to be exact. They should have started the walkers on the back 9 if they were going to play 9 holes. Other than that the course was challenging but had a great lay out. Definitely, a municipal course to play. I sure do recommend this course for anyone who decides to visit the Rio Grande Valley. I know, I will next time I'm down there.
Mr. B.L.
A single one group ahead, a five-some ahead of us......made for a slow round. Staff could organize tee times a little better. Otherwise, great course.
Course Pros and Cons
The play was rather slow. A lot of seniors play this course. The course was in good shape, with the exception of the sand bunkers. They had not been dressed in weeks and were extremely hard and packed.
Friendly staff
Enjoyed playing the course. Very friendly and helpful staff!
Course is good shape
Too many fivesomes slows play and makes a what could be a great experience only good.
Slow Play
Could have used a marshall as we waited before every shot the whole round. Our tee time was 1:38 and we played the last hole in the dark. 3 high school kids tried to cut in on the 10th tee. We were even late on our tee time as they had more golfers than carts.
Beware of Slowplay
Management let 8 5somes out in a row, starting some on 17 and18. Caused a real backup for those with booked tee times. Almost 5 hour rounds. I guess I will not be going back on a weekend if at all.
Upset with course management
I have played Los Lagos a number of times in the last few months and have gotten all my tee times thru Golf Now. On 12/23, the course was unplayable in the afternoon with winds gusting from 35-50 mph. I was hoping to get my green fees refunded when they closed the course, but they would not close the course and thus we lost our green fees.
Every Hole has a challenge
A very fair course. Not difficult if you are on your game, but a bunker, water, rough, or out of bounds awaits you on every hole with a bad shot.
Super nice course but too many people with nasty attitudes
I always have fun when I go but unfortunately always have to run into angry gold players who don't seem to know what I smile is lol
Great golf course!
Probably the best golf experience in the area. Challenging golf course and exceptional food, I recommend this place to anyone!
This course is in excellent conditon.
The course was in excellent condition. The greens are fast. I had a great time. I found the course challenging but feel I will play better after getting used to it. The staff is friendly. I chose to walk over riding in a cart and was not too tired after 18 holes. Pace was slow, but skipped ahead of the group in front and wound up playing in about 3 hours.
Best greens in the RGV!
Great course with beautiful greens. Great condition.
Los Lagos
Course in great shape, staff very cordial. Great value for price.
Los Lagos
Good challenge at most holes. Great course. There were not many playing when I was there so game pace was on me. Finished 18 in 4 hours. Had to pause for a weather front or I would have finished quicker.
