#2 green @ Trails Photo submitted by bowhunter817 on 04/10/2013
Was not great
The fairways and tee boxes were very dry and not in good shape... huge cracks in the fairway would "eat" golf ball... also, huge bounces on hard fairways made increase difficulty. However, rough around greens was way over grown... Best feature of this course was Payton the cart girl. She was all business and made rounds fast/quick.
Poor Frisco Trails
At one time this was one of the better courses and deals in Frisco. However, today it’s and overpriced goat field with average greens. Don’t waste your money…
Challenging course
The course is very challenging and I would not recommend it for a beginner. Several holes have layups and then long shots into greens that have drop offs to the hazards. Most greens have limited room on one side so you can’t miss shots on that side of the green or just reach in your bag for another ball. The bunkers are in terrible condition and are basically unplayable. The rest of the course is fine. If you want a challenge this is.a good test.
Overall Solid Course
I really like this course layout and the greens are in very good shape. Pace of play was good and we had a solid time out there. The only issue I had was some of the bunkers were in really bad shape, almost unplayable. At a cheaper course, I’d let this slide, but when I’m paying $92 for a round, I expect every aspect of the course to be great.
Course is in great shape
This course has excellent fairways and greens. The best shape of any of the other courses I play around North Dallas area.
Wonderful condition.
Course in great shape. Fairways and greens are super nice.
Poor value for the money
For $90 a person, this course is not worth it. Greens rolled pretty good, fairways were very splotchy with what seemed like LOTS of ground under repair. Bunkers were full of mud and dirt
GREAT COURSE
The course was severely flooded a week ago so there is a lot of debris on the course in areas. The traps are washed out. They had no cart girl. They have no GPS. The food is great but was closing at 2:30 on a Sunday. The clubhouse and pro shop are strangely empty. Am guessing they are about to start a renovation. The course is very green and lush. The pace of pay is really nice and we really appreciate them not over booking it. A lot of good about this course. Worth playing!
Course is in bad shape after the big storm on July 3. Greens were ok but fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes were destroyed.
In Solid Shape
Greens were a little sandy and tee boxes were beat up but the fairways and and rough was lively and gave true lies. Bunkers were in average shape.
Great condition, nice hitting off of carpeted fairways, putting on Smooth undulating greens, friendly people in the clubhouse, and by the carts. No beverage people on the course, but it was late. Always like a Marshall, encouraging pace of play, but again it was late. Great value for the money for sure !
Carts need an upgrade
For the price you are paying there could definitely use some upgrades to the carts. Every turn our cart sounded like wheel was going to fall off. I’ve played at other courses and spent half of what a round here cost and had the video monitors in the carts outlying the course. Greens were very well kept and would play here again but would most likely be twilight
With some TLC, this could be a great track
As a former course rater for Golfweek Magazine, I feel like I’m a pretty good judge of golf courses. Some keys to a great course for me are the variety of holes among other holes with the same par number on the course, and the variety of the kind of shots and clubs required during a round.
Based on those qualifications, I feel this layout is excellent. In fact, it’s a golf club quality layout. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that, in spite of a great layout, this course falls short when it comes to maintenance.
First, and I understand this is a maintenance requirement, the greens appear to have been recently punched/aerated. This normally isn’t that big of a deal, but the staff appeared to not have properly topdressed them following the process, and every putt was a bumpy adventure.
Next, the sand traps had almost no sand in them (if any at all). One fairway bunker had nothing but exposed pipe and rocks in it. Very disappointing.
Fairways were for the most part, okay. They certainly aren’t lush, but there were no significant areas of dead patches if you kept it in the short stuff.
From an amenity standpoint, the course is of municipal course quality. There’s a limited pro shop, a decent practice green, a decent range and a bar area and restaurant that seems pretty sterile. One nice thing on the amenity front was that they did have a beverage cart, and we saw it every 4-5 holes.
In all, I’d go back based on the design for the $68 I paid. If they addressed the issues I brought up, its easily a $100 course.
