The Golf Club at McKinney

This is the first time I have been here. I enjoyed the course, but the layout is tough. There are many narrow fairways with trouble left and right. On this day, there was A LOT of cut grass laying in piles in the rough. Our group lost several balls in places that they should have been found. This is probably from the amount of rain we have had recently, but it was frustrating to lose balls that were just a little off of the fairway. It is an interesting course and I will probably come back again.

Check in I was wearing a $50 dollar part of shorts with a collar shirt and they told me because I had demin shorts on they would not let me on the course to play without changing, I never ever go back there

We had to wait for 30 minutes before we received our golf carts. The course was also limited on range balls. Overall it was okay the greens were fast but the fairways were below average.

Three friends and myself decided to try this course out since most of our golf courses were completely booked with us finally having decent weather with no rain. The cost was very reasonable so we set up tee time.

First off this course is very difficult to find and the club doesn't help matters with any supportive signage. In fact we spent 15 minutes just locating the club house.

We all decided to meet up about a hour before our tee time to warm up at the driving range. I was shocked to hear that the don't sell buckets of balls. I was told that it's free just help yourself to whatever balls you can find. There were about 8 people at the range fighting over what little balls were there. Very sloppy set up so far but I thought the course may make up for it. I was so wrong as this course was in bad shape. The ground at the tee boxes are rock hard. I must of broken 12 or so tees thru the day just trying to tee up my drive. The fairways have a number of muddy and soggy spots so much that my shoes were caked in mud by day's end. The sand traps are maybe the worst I have ever seen on a golf course. They are so hard that a lot our shots just bounced out like they hit concrete. The greens were in decent shape however. The layout is a terrible design. We found ourselves driving the carts 200 yards in some cases just to get to the next hole and cutting thru neighborhoods to do so. Also if you plan on drinking I would suggest you bring your own. We never saw a beverage cart and by hole 6 on this hot day we all were ready for a ice cold beer. I called the club house and was told she is busy but making rounds. Finally by the 8 hole we were able to track down some beers.

Overall I felt like this course had all of regulars that treated it like there own country club. There was a sense of arrogance and rudeness from a lot of what I will call the "regulars" on this course. We had one lady try to lecture one of our guys on the 90 degree rule which we were abiding too I might add.

I was hoping to have a better experience but this course doesn't have a lot if any positives in my book.

For the money I thought it was pretty good. Need a sign or directions to let you know you enter through an apartment complex.

One of the few courses available for play after May record breaking rains. The course was overbooked because of that and played exceptionally sloooww. Quite beautiful and would play again.

The Golf Club at McKinney is typically a very nice golf course with a convenient location. Unfortunately, they should have kept the purse closed for the upcoming week to allow the course to dry out.

They had (3) holed closed, but it was extremely muddy in other holes that should have been closed too. Should have charged a reduced rate to play a reduced course.

All that needs to be said about this course, is that if you put a bad review, someone will entice you to come back with some sort of coupon (as seen on every bad review written on here)....and is what enticed me to write my first review. Greens are the highlight of the course, but they're at the point where they'll die soon with any sort of drought. Bunkers and fairways are horrible. Never saw bevcart, staff in the entire clubhouse was more concentrated on having fun than waiting on guests. Shop made no effort to pair me up, inside or on the 1st tee, although I ended up pairing up with someone. Range was an absolute mess. The holes on the apartment side of the course are almost unplayable, and of horrible design. Course is just very, very rough and the entire place is very unorganized...as in most courses like this, probably not enough staff to keep it up to par. Just pay attention to the GN "hot deal" pricing, that reflects true value of the course....Never pay anything other than $14-$25 to play this course, much better deals elsewhere. Watters Creek, Westridge, Ridgeview, Heritage Ranch, Twin Creeks...you name it, it's better.

Great golf course for a great price. I will definitely go back and play it again.

The course conditions were rough. Never saw beverage cart.

med size greens. houses and apartments abound. only gripe. guy/kid (directly lied to my face)
1st time there. my gn t time was 1130. I asked if I could go early to ensure I could get my kids after school. It was 1040. He told me 1st t was stacked. no problem. got range balls. not 1 person teed off before we did at 1125. I suppose there is a possibility of 6 canceled/no show t times....but I doubt it.
They do not like you using gn discounted t times. my opinion.
The lie was real.

The traps were unraked and bad. Never saw a Cartgirl. This could be a hidden gem with some TLC.

I played this course numerous times 4-5 years ago and did not play it until recently. The weather has been hard on a lot of courses lately which promotes wet and muddy conditions. The front nine we should have skipped but the back was not too bad. When this course dries out I suspect it will be better.

All of the rain, ice and snow that fell for the previous 2 weeks. It was muddy and water puddles were abundant but at least I was able to play and did enjoy it very much. Can't wait until it dries out so I can try it again.

The course is quite challenging right from the first hole with OB on the left and hazard on the right side. The greens got subtle breaks.

Unless you're looking for an easy course in bad shape, then this is not the course for you. I don't have high expectations in the winter in Texas and for $15 for 9 holes I didn't think I would regret it. Well 3 hours later we finish the 9th hole and I wish i just gave the $15 to the guy in the pro shop and left.

The back tees are in horrendous condition and were sand and dirt with spots of grass strewn about.

Go play anywhere else for double or triple your money, it is worth it.

course in decent shape, fairways are tight(need to let grass grow), they need to work on all their sand bunkers so they are same through out the course( some have good sand other its packed down or no sand at all). the greens here are always tricky. You need to know where to hit you shots on to the greens other wise you will have alot of three putts. If you never have played here can be some what challenging.

I played in the middle of winter so got winter conditions. Fairways are hard and well as the greens. Several of the greens are very punitive and the pin placements made it more difficult. Overall a fun round. The course has variety of layouts and holes that keep you interested. I'd play again hopefully in better conditions. Difficult to walk since several of the holes are long from green to tee.

This course has to be much better in Spring. Because it was in the middle of winter, fairway was brown. Greens were also mostly brown and somewhat bumpy slow, but good enough to enjoy. Our cart gets pretty slow in the middle of round, and a staff came with new cart in a few minutes after phone call. Want to return when weather is better.

Good course. Some fairways are pretty narrow and the greens are not flat by any means.
