Course was in great condition
Love playing this course, greens are difficult but fun.
Course reminds me of Fire Keeper!
I've played many courses throughout the Kansas City area. This course by far is one of the better scenic and well kept courses out there. I as able to get a round for $25 through GolfNow and I'd pay that every time! I'd honestly compare the layout and the look to Fire Keeper. It's beautiful!
Lack of Course Information
If you play this course you practically need to drive around the entire course before you round starts. They have no information about the course, no course map or hole map, and no yardage book or card available. Had I know what was coming ahead with each hole I would have planned my shots entirely different. For such a small price item (yardage book) it would make all the difference in the world for people playing the course.
Favorite course in the Kansas City area
Great course, one of my favorites in the area. Being from Michigan, the bluegrass fairways are great to play... I sometimes get tired of zoysia. Not an overly difficult course, but far from an easy course. Most of the holes have great characteristics and are very fun to play. It's a long drive from Lawrence, so I don't get to play often.. but it's always a treat to play.
Stone Canyon .. Nice course
1st time to play this course. The course layout is challenging but fair and the box to greens were in very good condition. Lots of unprepared ball marks on greens though. The clubhouse and lounge are in prefab buildings. Not what I expect for a $50+ a round. Overall I would rate this a do again
Beautiful layout
This is a very nice course lush fairways and good design. The green are pretty tough but all around a good test of skill
Unique area course
Carved out of valleys, draws and stream beds with lots of exposed stone, especially the signature third hole, one almost feels like it is desert golf in Arizona instead of the Midwest. Fun but very challenging...
Not as bad as rumored
Course is keepin its shape regardless of what people are saying. A few fairways need some TLC but the greens and tee boxes are in fantastic condition. It's a $45 course on the weekends, but not worth more than that.
Terrible. Just terrible
The course seemed to have gotten horrible since I last played. Ever since they lost superintendent Darrell to winterstone stone canyon has become a course that charges to much for a horrible quality of a round. The grass has dead spots everywhere so just save yourself an extra 40 bucks and go to royal meadows to experience dead grass and better pricing
Coming back nicely
Played here in the fall and I thought the course was doomed. Greens are in very good shape, fairways are about 90% back. Some of the tee boxes need attention, but over all a much better look to this gem.
Great course
The course was in great shape, the greens are very good. Pace of play was the best part, we had a twosome and made it around in 3 1/2 hours.
The course is a Star!
First thing you notice about Stone Canyon is the clubhouse, outdoor restrooms and third trailer acting as a bar. They have a temporary vinyl building to house carts and maintence equipment. Which is disappointing because the course deserves a much better welcome than it receives.
The course had issues on the tee boxes, many of which were lacking grass; but more importantly they were all laser leveled, no situations where you stood above or below the ball. The greens rolled very true, the pace was consistent throughout and the undulation was were thought out well. The bunkers were well placed and added to the experience. Almost every hole required a strategic approach and were fair. Only one time did I finish a hole and think "that wasn't fair" and it was due to my lack of course knowledge, had I known the green complex was designed that way I would have approached it much different. The course is a $100 a round product, but the overhead is so low that you get it at a heavily discounted price. Do yourself a favor and play this course if the opportunity arises.
Mixed Bag
Overall, the course is very nicely designed with several challenging and interesting holes. Any level of golfer could find it enjoyable. Many of the tee boxes were closed and need better surfaces and there were many bad areas in the fairways. Also, I've never seen so many fairway divots that come into play. The greens are very firm, but put extremely well though they have some severe breaks on many of them. Overall, would love to play again when in slightly better condition.
Course condition
I'm not sure why the greens were covered in sand. The fairways were a little chewed up. The views are beautiful. The staff was great. It was a good price. An overall great day.
Putter's Greens
I have played Stone Canyon a handful of times but this is the best I have seen the greens. Great shape, fast but true. Good test for the best of putters with the undulations.
Fairways looked like they were still recovering from a harsh winter, had to roll the ball to grass in the fairway a few times.
Not a great course to play when it is really windy, as it sits up high and nothing there to stop the wind on many of the holes. But hey, this is the Midwest and wind is part of the charm.
Not impressive
59 bucks to wait all day for slow player in front of us. These guys took 10 minutes EVERY HOLE to look for their ball. Ridiculous. Won't be back here.
Best greens so far this year.
Good round. Great weather. Played as a 3-some with a couple of guys I met at the course on a coupon. We played fast (~3 1/2 hours), although not necessarily well. I've always considered Stone canyon one of the tougher courses in KC. Greens were in good shape. 1st time this year I haven't had to putt over aeration holes. Only negative was 3-4 fairways had taken a beating apparently from last year's weather. But all in all, a very enjoyable round.
Great value
This course was very entertaining and very tough at time with precise carries needed at times. Recent winter weather curtailed the Spring growth from starting on time.
great views
Had a great time with my 14 year old son. We played from the Bronze tees, which forced us to carry some ravines. He stepped up to the challenge and we had a great time.
Great Course but has so much potential!
This course is amazing and could be so much better! Some burnt out spots all over but great landscape and great fairways.
