Moyvalley heatwave...
The welcome from David and Emma was super and the course was in reasonable nick after the atrocious weather we'd been having. The sun was shining and the wind was blowing. Our round was really slow due to a lot of societies playing in front of us but we didn't mind as I hadn't seen my playing partner for a while so we caught up on the chat side. The only downside was the bar was closed at 6.45pm! We were gasping! I'm coming back to this course as I want to play it in normal conditions.
Disaster
The course was completely over booked. On the first tee I was in one of four groups waiting to tee off. The first two holes are very short, a par four and a par 3 - it took 50 minutes to play these. I took 7 shots in 50 minutes. I had to warm up on the second tee box again, there was a viewing gallery on each tee box with the back up on the course. A member of one of the 4 balls rang the clubhouse to highlight the hold up, this member of staff reported no hold ups after the 8th hole. This information was obviously of zero help as the same number of golfers were on the course being held up from the very start, the fact that another part of the course is free is of no relevance! We were not offered the chance to skip ahead onto the back nine. Additionally, upon checking in at the Pro Shop, I was asked if I had played the course previously, I responded; stating I had not. There was no direction as to where the 1st tee was located, what the local rules were, the playing conditions or which tee box to play from. Later, on the third tee box, when the course ranger was informing my group of the hold up, he told me "It doesn't help that average golfers are playing off the white tees"!! This caused great offence to my playing partner. Upon completing the third hole, my playing partner and I left the course and went home as there was no effort on behalf of the course management to resolve the problem. I was extremely disappointed with the staff, course management and the booking system at Moyvalley, I had driven a long way to play this course and I had to ask for a voucher as compensation, a refund was not offered and I am now out of pocket due to travel expenses.
Good course that feels very open but not a bomber paradise
A really top notch course that manages to blend a touch of links into a parkland setting. The rough is links like, if you hit in the wrong spot you could be standing a foot from your ball and never find it. The course feels very wide open with very few trees. The greens were very good, they were well maintained and having a good degree of challenge without being absurd. I very much enjoyed the round and will be back.
Cracker
It was wet when I played but it held up admirably considering its so soon after two storms.
Plaued it in the summer aswell, fairways and rough were pristine and the greens roll very true. The practice area are top notch although the driving range is more of an iron range.
The layout and look of the cpurse is fantastic and it feels like a top class championship course.
A must!
Great course, very well kept, best greens we played this year so far. Great practise facilities. Not to be missed.
Great Finishing Hole
I've heard great things about this place and was not disappointed, the drive in gives it a real championship feel to the course. Club house is spectacular. The staff in the shop were sensationally unfriendly which is a shame. The course is in great condition, greens are receptive, the day I played the Pins where in pretty easy positions but that could change I'm sure. There a couple of great Par 5's and a couple of sneaky drivable Par 4's with a great risk and reward attraction. The 18th is among the best finishing holes i've come across, right up there with Druids and Celtic Manor (2010).
Well worth a visit
Course in decent condition for the time of year apart from a few areas where there was some standing water.
Staff in the Pro shop were very welcoming and obliging.
Good course, great value
Very nice course. In very good condition. The staff was not very friendly and there was limited food service available when we finished our round.
Would certainly play it again if in the area.
This course has some very nice holes.
The course was in very good condition for so early in the season.Staff very helpful and pleasant had a wonderful day. Many Thanks Pat.
wet and windy
This was my second time playing this course. I find this course enables you to open your sholders and let it rip. In other words its wide open and flat, there is no shelter from the wind on any hole so even a light wind will have an effect on your shots. The condition of the course was average, the fairways did not seem to have been cut for a couple of days so there was no run on the ball. The only memorable hole is the 18th, take an iron of the tee and navagateyour way around the water on this hole.
Great conditions...staff not so much..
Having played many courses in Ireland, I've found that a driving range isn't exactly a priority for many courses/players. I enjoy warming up on the range an hour or so prior to teeing off, so I showed up an hour prior to do just that. When I checked in, the gentleman informed me that the range was closed due to "no balls being available." The claim was that a large group had come through earlier that morning and hit ALL the balls that the driving range contained. I asked if there was noone to collect them, to which he simply replied "no." But then he had absolutely no issue telling me I could head upstairs and enjoy a cup of coffee. (Costing me almost 3 euro!) Great conditions, fun course. But absolutely no excuse for not having an open range for golfers when you area course of this stature!
Lovely course
Moyvalley is a lovely course to play.It was in excellent condition. The greens were terrific. It is a lovely walk and though difficult, is very fair to the higher handicap golfer.
Although very flat (great for my age) it is not boring and each hole has it's own charachter.
All 4 of us really enjoyed the round. A 9 out of 10 from us.
I will be returning.
relaxing
As a society golfers we played off yellow tees some holes were a tad short if we play again will play off white ... lovely course some great holes ...18 a gem and not just saying that cos I got a birdie ( don't get many ) ....only 2 thing was wrong with course and that was the bunkers were hard and unplayable ....... and the course was empty a 2 ball in front of us n not another person in sight what a shame maybe it was just bad timing I hope so
This course is excellent but the bunkers are very hard due to poor drainage,
This course is excellent but the bunkers are very hard due to poor drainage, it's the only thing that let's this course down. Great value for money
Wonderful wonderful
Course was in excellent condition, flag positions were tough found out later there was a competition on, 35 euro for this a bargain
.
Amazing course, I will be coming back here very soon.
This. Golf course has great features
I love this golf course because it plays like a links esp the f9 but is a parkland course. It's challenging but esp. when windy n raining as the course is very open. You need to read the course well and use course management from the first hole right through to the 18th ( the last hole which I might add is all about placing and knowing your club distance). The course is very well marked with many distance markers throughout too. The golfer will truly enjoy this course and will return many times to play it. I also love the golf / food deal when its on offer. Great value for money . I have recommended this golf course to family n friends who have played here many times now also and truly enjoy their round including the food /water hole the 19th! :-). Overall, I highly recommend this golf course to our home folders men n women and visitors worldwide who come to Ireland to play golf. The course hosts a very nice Club House with a Hotel just beside it. Scenery / surroundings are also very nice.
