Regulars want the course to themselves!
We were told to start on the back nine due to spraying on the course .We started playing and when we got to hole sixteen were told by other players that they had a scramble tournament scheduled that evening , and we needed to go to First tee box ! We just kept playing , never did see any other golfers ! I don't think they had a tournament ! I guess the regulars just wanted the course to themselves ! My guess is this happens all the time !
Great Layout
Though this was over an hour's drive for me, it was a course that I would definitely play again. I was a little disappointed in the fact that they had recently punched most of the greens but had not sanded or cut them for the most part; so a lot of them were very bumpy and slooow!!! I love the bend grass greens though and I know that if they sand them now, in a couple of weeks when they come back in, they will be absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait to play here again, thanks Golfnow!
best greens
I played this place for the first time, and was happy overall. The fairways was in good shape, the greens were in great shape. I planned to come back, but this time I'm making three tee times for Par or better golf club fort worth.
Must Play
This course is a hidden gem, I played from the black tees 7400 yards and shot one of the best rounds ever, the greens are in such good shape. Only one green had patches of the bad winter, No 4. This is a must play for anyone that calls themselves a golfer. The drive was 50 minutes from Frisco in Sherman, but well worth it. This course is in the best shape of any course played this past month. Can't wait to play again on Monday morning, my last round before heading back to Japan.
Not always welcoming to occasional golfers.
I've played here two or three times before on weekdays and had no problems. Today was different. It's Saturday, it's early in the season, and the weather was gorgeous. Everyone with a set of golf clubs wanted to hit the links and Stone Creek was busy. So busy that while waiting to tee off one of the foursome behind me said that his tee time was the same as mine. And I could have sworn I heard one of the twosome before me mention they had the same tee time. Whatever. The twosome teed of. I waited. I teed off. The guys behind me waited. They teed off. All was good. I played my usual game. Two over, two over, par, one over, two over, two over, par, three over. etc. First nine took just a little over two hours. I started my back nine with a par and made a five over on the 11th. Then an embarrassing 7 on par three 12. I'll admit that 9 and 7 ate up some time. The group ahead started to separate from me and the group behind started to catch up. A course employee drove up soon after and told me they were really busy today so I had to pick up the pace. I couldn't disagree but I was getting tired and that's how my game usually goes. I get tired and have a few bad holes later in my round. But I've never been told by an employee to speed up. I've always waited a few minutes and let the group behind play through or my game picked back up and I put distance between them and me. Anyways, I teed off on the next hole with that fresh in my head and skulled one into some trees. So I hit a provisional ball. Here comes the employee again telling me they are really busy so I need to pick up the pace and I can't be hitting two balls off the tee. So here I am, a three or four time a year player have a stretch of bad holes, with a course employee basically telling me that the USGA provisional ball rule doesn't apply because they overbooked their tee times. II wasn't about whip out a rule book and start reading rule 27 to the guy...or ask the guy why they booked two or three groups for the same tee time.
I left. And I seriously doubt I'll ever go back.
Need Member courtesy
30 min. late teeing off. Members playing $$game, no regard for scheduled tee times. No starter, no marshal to speed up pace. No offers to proceed or tee off ahead of members. Aggravating.
Visiting couple mystified also.
Stonecreek was nice
This course was nice. I played in the dead of winter so it's not going to be at it's fullest potential but very good for the date of play. Would recommend to anyone.
Worth the drive!
The course provides a challenging but fair layout, and you will hit almost every club in your bag. The greens rolled true (even in the middle of January). Think carefully on each hole as shot placement can really be the difference between an average score and one you are proud of. Clubhouse needs a few refinements, but overall this is an up and coming golf course. Good amount of vertical variation. Can't wait to play it again in the Spring and Summer.
Great value and elevation
The course is beautiful and the elevation changes is a nice addition for a north Texas course. Great value and the greens roll well. However you can tell the course doesn't have the funds to keep it in top notch shape. Overall a good course and an excellent place to enjoy yourself.
Course was in great shape, the last rains helped a lot
This was the 2nd time I played there in the last 2 months. I really enjoy playing there.
First time playing here, course was awesome, can't wait to go back
This was our first time playing this course, got a cheap rate ( hot deal) and was very pleased. The staff was very friendly, the course was awesome , I can't wait to get back and play again.
Nice layout.
Great value from GolfNow...interesting course layout...multiple tee box selection makes this a good choice for all levels.
Pretty North Dallas course
Like so many Texas courses, the summer heat and lack of rain has not been friendly to Stone Creek. A few greens were under repair and a few others were in need of attention. I'd rate these greens at about 4.5/10. Fairways and tee boxes were OK. The Challenging and interesting layout was my favorite aspect of this course. A few blind tee shots made the course more difficult and more fun (at least for me). Birdies are there for the taking but a few tight fairways place a premium on accuracy.
Liked the change in elevations for a Texas course.
This was my first time at this course and decided to try it based on the reviews and the over-all design. I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. Although we have been in a severe drought it was evident this course gets very little moisture from watering. The fairways were generally very thin, hard, and cut too low in my opinion. The greens were patchy, bare in some areas, and not very consistent.
I will not return here unless we get a load of rain and the course is maintained to a higher standard.
Greens Need Attention! Fairways need more grass! Great layout!
Not sure where the other reviewers have been playing but 4.5 stars is way off the mark. Bent greens should not be allowed in Texas except in private clubs with expert personnel. Fairways were very thin in most spots. That being said, with a little TLC and
tiff eagle or champion Bermuda greens this would be a great destination. Beautiful layout with just enough challenge for the average golfer and enough length from the back tees for even the best hitters.
course in great shape for the hot weather. soft bent grass green needs to have player fix their divots
course in great shape for the really hot weather. soft bent grass greens needs to have every player fix their divots!!
Diamond in the rough!
This is an excellent course! Well maintained and cared for and an incredibly friendly staff. I will continue to tell people about this course as it never seems to be too crowded and its always enjoyable to play!
The greens are really in good condition.
The Staff at Stone Creek has done a great job of maintaining the greens this summer. Each green was very soft and they held ball very well. They were so soft, I felt like I had to tread lightly on them to avoid damaging the grass. Excellent job of maintaining the course through the 100+ degree weather we have recently experienced.
for 17.50
This coarse is overcharged but worth it. Especially for $17.50 ...
Challenging course
Course length is very challenging along with areas of rough throughout the course. Tee boxes are approximately a box longer than most other courses. I usually play from the blues but the blues on this course where almost 6900, which really challenges your long iron play. Course is in good condition. Would be in much better condition if players respected the course and the game more. Overall the course is very repectable and I will be playing it again soon
