The Golf Club of Texas
About
The best testament one can give The Golf Club of Texas (formerly known as The Golf Club of Texas at Briggs Ranch) is that it hosts some big local tournaments. The large greens and tee boxes are some of the very best San Antonio has to offer. This is truly a high end facility. If you have not been out to enjoy this course you really need to. The place is all greened up and with the unique landscaping it's just a real pretty experience with great golf. The golf carts are outfitted with GPS which gives accurate distance to the pin and shows the contours of the greens. This track combines Links Style golf with Hill Country golf, giving players a taste of both types of golf. The course is among the best that San Antonio has to offer. The senior staff is very experienced and the service is all that you would expect at a high-value public course. The new clubhouse is beautiful and features a full service restaurant. After playing a round, you will really enjoy just sitting on the porch and taking in the view.

Golf Club of TX
This course has come a real long way in every aspect over the past 5-8 years.. as for my round it was great, this is really a great layout, a little over 7,000 from the tips and truly rewards good play and makes recovery difficult but not impossible after a poor shot, which is about all you can ask for in my opinion.. course conditions were pretty darn good for January in south Texas, greens were fantastic, they were quick/fast but definitely fair.. if you haven’t made the short drive out to GCOT I would most definitely recommend it..!
My home course
Genuinely love this course!! Was referred by a friend and now I’m out here twice a week! Glad to call this my home course!
Never play this course on the same day as a tournament
Our tee time was delayed because of a slow tournament. We teed off one hour after our tee time. When addressed to the staff they blamed the tournament golfers instead of better managing pace of play. Tournament groups were cutting in between regular groups causing many non-tournament golfers to quit in the middle of the round. Unbelievable & Unacceptable.
This course has improved over the last two years. Fairways are better. Greens are good.
Not quite what I was hoping for...
While I wasn’t met at the bag drop, once I ran into staff in the clubhouse and the Starter were all really nice, friendly and welcoming. Can’t comment on the beverage cart because there wasn’t one which was very surprising for a Friday.
Speaking of carts, I had to switch carts before even starting because the brakes wouldn’t engage, and even in the only other cart available the brakes were hit and miss, so just had to try and park on semi-flat areas during the round. Another thing I noticed on the carts is that not all had a pin placement card (I had to borrow a card from another cart, the one where the brakes didn’t work) in fact some didn’t even have a slot for them.
Those are all pretty minor issues since this is about golf...the course was generally in fairly decent condition but once you get off the fairway (and not by far) you can easily find patches of bare ground. However if you’re on the fairway the grass is nice.
The greens rolled ok but seemed somewhat inconsistent in speed of course that could have just been my inability to properly calibrate to them. Same with the sand traps, especially some of them around the edges were extremely roughed up.but shouldn’t come into play unless you just happen to roll back into that mess (looking in the mirror!)
Course layout was ok, not super challenging nor easy either. I do think I need to play here again to give it a second chance, we’ll see.
Course is in excellent condition
The course was in as good of condition as it has ever been. Fairways were lush, greens were sanded but were still quick a had good roll. Weather was perfect as well, just wish I had played better, but that was all my fault.
Great Course
We recently played several courses in the area.GCT was in the best condition of most of them. The greens were firm and fast the fairway’s we’re in excellent condition. Will be headed back soon.
18 holes 11-16-21
I enjoyed the ease of being able to book and prepay online. The course was fairly clean and well maintained.
Great course, super slow pace.
The course was in phenomenal shape, greens were a little hard but rolled great. 4 1/2 hour round was too long for a Monday round. I didn’t see a single marshal on the course but at least the beverage cart came around. Still a fantastic deal for the price.
Don’t go on Sunday’s
Pace of play was horrible as there were kids who were either learning how to play or just getting started. There was a fivesome and that should not happen on a weekend. We ended up quitting after 10 holes and did get a partial refund.
In great shape
I've played this course a few times over the years. Sometimes it's been good, some times so so, but this time around it was in the best shape I've ever seen it. It was very windy, and since the course it's hilly and with little amount of trees, it was pretty challenging. The majority of the course is made up for zoysia and native grass, which is perfect for the amount of sun it gets. All 18 holes play unique and are very well designed. I highly recommend this course!
Pace of play?
The last 2 times I’ve played - people insist on playing through, ok not a problem. Then they spend 15 minutes looking for their ball.
Let me state I’m not that great, bout a 20 handicap, but I do hit fairways.
Tee times are in 10 minute intervals but starters want to cram 4 people into each 10 minutes. Don’t bother booking a tee time they just cram you into a single or double.
Was thinking bout getting a membership here but I just want to relax and hit w/o being pushed, by people who’ll spend the whole day lookin for their ball.
Grounds crew does a great good keeping fairways and greens up to par. Have no problem w/ the course itself. Really like this course but am not able to enjoy my round w/ all the “scratch pros” on this course.
