Editor's Note: Course closed for business in Dec 2017
Cannon Ridge Golf Club sprawls across 200 acres of rolling countryside situated along the shores of the Rappahannock River. Located in historic Fredericksburg on what was once a Civil War battle site, cannon emplacements accent the course. The diverse layout wanders through dense woodlands and across bluffs and deep ravines. The scenic wetlands come into play on a few holes. The greens are small and bordered by strategically placed bunkers, but they are open in the front, making them more player friendly with hardly any forced carries. The golf course is not always forgiving, though, it is even considered one of the toughest public courses in the state. Don't be fooled by the par 3s. They may be short but they are tough. In addition to the course, Cannon Ridge Golf Club offers a large driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

This course has great features
This course had excellent fairways and challenging holes. it is worth the money to play.
Needs some maintenance
The crabgrass has taken over the aprons around the greens. Inconsistent green speeds. Not sure what the grass in the rough is either. Bunkers are mostly unplayable. Bermuda tees and fairways are great. Great layout. I think the course just needs some tlc. Staff was nice. No beverage cart. I played the course regularly when it opened in 04, It is nothing like that course. I played with my 70 year old father and heard about the conditions all day.
Good value
Nice course at a reasonable rate. Well maintained.
Good round
Course is in good shape, pace of play a little slow, but not too bad. Overall a very good golfing experience.
Very Attentive Staff
This is a great course and I was a bit surprised at the rate for a Saturday at 9AM. The staff is really phenomenal, on a very hot day they made sure all golfers were hydrated and even brought out cold towels.
It's a long course that has actual tee boxes for every skill level (none of this red tee box in a fairway). There was maybe 1 or 2 greens and a handful of bunkers that weren't in great condition but other than that everything is in phenomenal condition. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Fun course!!
Very fun course. My only gripe is the back nine is very quirky in that you can get penalized for hitting a good drive with downhill or sidehill lies often. Overall still enjoy the course but knowing yardage to certain lies on that back nine is key.
Cannon Ridge
Cannon Ridge was in pretty good shape. The fairways are always plush and balls in the fairway, generally sit up nicely. Just before the greens, the fairways need work. Other than that, I enjoyed my round.
Great condition, wonderful staff, tough course(for me).
If you are not a long driver this course is difficult. A lot of up and down and your drive always seems to hit an upslope so little or no roll.
A lot of fun to play and the staff is great. Brought a cart to my car on arrival and picked it up at my car when the round was over. Impressive.
Fairways and greens in nice condition.
Well worth the price, although I didnt score that well, I plan on going back and bringing it to its knees.
Highly recommend this course
This course is becoming our go to course. Easy to get a tee time and staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Challenging but fair, a great value for the money
Great time and Nice Course
Booked through golf now for half the normal rate which was great, but I would pay full price to go back! Well maintained course even with little recent rain and a lot of heat. The bunkers were under repair which is nice to see that they are making effort to improve. Greens were moderately tough because of being well kept. Range balls included in the round!
Must Play! Very nice course
We chose the course for a golf reunion because of good reviews and it is mid way between the foursome homes - NOVA & Williamsburg. The single digit HCP played from the whites, the 11.2 HCP and the other two played from the Golds. The front 9 was a good warm up and easier than the back 9. The back 9 is more interesting with many uneven lies and a few blind shots but very fair although more challenging. We were first timers there and lost a few strokes due to not knowing the course. This is to be expected but we still had a GREAT TIME! I really like the course layout. It was in very good shape and the wide fairways were appreciated by all but especially the two guys that don't have a HCP and don't keep score. I DEFINETLY want to play this again. It was not crowded and that may be because it was the day after July 4 TH and responsible people were back working. Three of us are retired. As a VSGA member I paid $30. That is a great value for such a nice course! CONGRADULATIONS to the staff, Pro & Superintendent for getting the course in great shape after being closed for a few years. This is its second year on the "rebound" and doing well. Thanks to all. "I'll be back"!
Keeps getting better
I've played this course 10+ times in the past 12 months. Since reopening it keeps getting better. Course is challenging and plays long from the tips. The design is great. Bunkers still need work. Fairways are top notch. Greens are a 6 or 7 but are getting better. I'll continue to visit this course and recommend it to any skill level.
My favorite place to play
I enjoy playing at Canon Ridge immensely. I was disappointed when the course closed for a few years. I actually drive from Southern Maryland to play at Canon Ridge and dont mind at all. I love the course layout and yes I find the course difficult but enjoyable. I will continue to make the drive and continue to play at Canon Ridge. Please keep up the good work.
A Revived Golf Course in Fredericksburg
Nice job bringing Cannon Ridge back to life after its closure. Fairways are nice and green are well kept. Fun and challenging course! Enjoyed and shall return.
Exceptional experience!
I enjoyed an exceptional experience on the course. The course was in excellent condition. The entire experience from the attendants in the parking lot, the clubhouse staff, and the folks tending the course. Thank you for the exceptional experience. I look forward to returning to this course.
Have played here since they opened back up last year-have played about 8 to 10 times. Course has come a long way in the short time I have been playing it. Yes some bunker need work- no different than A lot of courses in area. Tough but fair - I will continue to play every chance I have. Usually Sunday 11 am. Keep up the good work
Great layout
On Sunday, I had a best time playing in peaceful pastoral setting . The green was rolling well with enough challenge.
Hidden gem in Fredricksburg
Great course
Great course. Nice layout and really good conditions can't wait to play again
Course nice/Tees and greens fair
Nice course, a little tight, with some blind shots. Overall, I liked it, especially if the greens could be improved.
