Cannon Ridge Golf Club sprawls across 200 acres of rolling countryside situated along the shores of the Rappahannock River. Located in historic Fredericksburg on what was once a Civil War battle site, cannon emplacements accent the course. The diverse layout wanders through dense woodlands and across bluffs and deep ravines. The scenic wetlands come into play on a few holes. The greens are small and bordered by strategically placed bunkers, but they are open in the front, making them more player friendly with hardly any forced carries. The golf course is not always forgiving, though, it is even considered one of the toughest public courses in the state. Don't be fooled by the par 3s. They may be short but they are tough. In addition to the course, Cannon Ridge Golf Club offers a large driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

Great course, but...
Fairways and most greens in great shape. But sand traps are in very bad shape. Most need sand. Playing out of traps made up of hard pack is difficult, and there are traps guarding all greens plus many in the fairway. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
The course is in great shape
This was my first time in roughly five years playing at Cannon Ridge. The course was in great shape with bermuda fairways and bent greens. I got there 20 minutes before t-time, so I didnt have time to go to the range. However, the practice green rolled beautifully as did all the greens. The layout is very open with no OB and generous fairways, but errant shots will find the tall unforgiving rough. I'll definitely be playing there again soon.
Nice course recovering from three year closure
I had played this course before it closed several years ago and wanted to play it again. I had forgotten how many holes required long carry off the tee to get to the fairway. It was not a problem for us but surely will be for the some golfers. We enjoyed the design. Lots of elevation change and the civil war plaques were interesting. The fairways and tee boxes were in very good condition. The greens were OK but have not fully recovered from the aeration earlier this spring. The range balls were not included in the GolfNow hot deal fee.
Cannon Ridge Golf Course
The staff members are terrific! The course was closed for a period of time, but since reopening, the staff has brought to course back with a rush. Bunkers are the last effort to restore them, but the course has a great layout and plays well.
Must Play
This is a hidden gem. With a lot of courses in this area charging higher prices, this is definitely where to play to get your monies worth.!!! Everything in a course you can ask for, except water but more than enough difficulty one can handle.
Great Course!
Challenging course! Staff is extremely accommodating. Course is in great condition, and even in light of recent airation greens roll true. Exiting golf course to play!
The course is tricky but fair.
Some bunkers need work, the greens were aeriated recently, otherwise the course was in great shape. You must pay attention and hit your landing areas to score low. It is a real test and it will show you your weaknesses. Fairways were plenty wide and in great shape. I intend to play here as often as possible. A real jewel! Worth your efforts no matter where you live in the Washington area. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, just a real pleasure playing Cannon Ridge.
To Much Money For condition
It was obvious this course was not near ready enough to charge anything but winter rates. It had rained the Thursday before we played and the bunkers had not been touched since and were in terrible shape. Course will be great once the season comes in but this charge was premature. This is a $45 course at best currently!!
Great golf course for women.
Loved the course. Cart paths need some attention along with the bunkers. Overall enjoyed the course very much.
Staff
Most of the staff is amazing. They just have one guy who works there that isn't professional at all. He tries real hard. Yet once you rub his bluntness wrong he shows it every time you come back. Otherwise the staff is amazing!!!
Give it time to restore
Challenging but fair course. Great layout. It can play a little long from the blue tees (5/6 are back to back 460+ par fours, 15 is a 200+ par 3.) Also takes some course knowledge (Don't hit driver on 14). Par 5s can be reachable in two if you hit certain chutes.
Course (in late March) was still dormant, but greens are in great shape. About 25% of the bunkers are still suffering from the years of neglect when the course was closed. But the staff is doing a great job bringing it back. I'd suspect come Memorial Day, this course will be in pristine shape.
Great course to play.Very challenging course and great folks that run the place.Always have had pleasant experience playing there.
nice layout
play the course a few times to know layout and it will be one of your favorites.
Great golf course
Great golf course. Good value for the $$. Fairways are like walking on carpet and the greens are firm.
Winter Golf
Decent course for the price but I would not want to drive from DC to Fredricksburg to play this course.
Course is links style with many sloping fairways. Hard to gauge course conditions since its still winter. Holes felt they were on top of each other. Greens rolled well.
Destination course
This course plays different than most dc metro courses. The links style makes it feel like a destination course vs a course only an hour away. The bunkers do need additional sand but it is still winter golf. The course is tough but fair; a great value.
Love this course.
Will play here as often as the deals keep coming. Challenging course, but if you can keep it in the Fairways always a good lye. This course makes you work for it. One of the friendliest staffs in the area.
No Rain Check!!???
I was truly disappointed when my round was cut short yesterday due to the course closing for weather. Our foursome had played 7 holes. I went in and asked for a rain check for 9 holes. The front desk person basically laughed and said that we got such a great deal he wasn't going to give us a rain check! My tee time was for 18 holes and I only got to play 7!! Whether I paid $150 or $15 my group should have received rain checks. I'm part of a local league and I will be letting everyone know how you treat your customers.
Correction: "Exciting" course to play. Much preferred over the Gauntlet or Lee's Hill.
