Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Marshalls like Buzzards
I play golf every week. Top courses in town too JW, La Cantera, Canyon Springs. I have never seen so many marshalls buzzarding around constantly. It was starting to get uncomfortable. Non of whom seemed friendly or made any effort to engage in friendly conversation. I could say it seemed as if it were because we are not locals but they were buzzarding everyone not just our 4some so this must just be how they roll. Nonetheless it’s awkward and comes across ill intended. The course itself is a gem and I would play it again. Perhaps they. An learn to relax so their customers can relax as well.
My favorite course in the hill country
Vaaler is in great condition, staff is always great !
Can’t wait to get back out there. It’s worth the $ and worth the drive.
Great course
Really a gym in the hill country .. friendly n fun place to play .. staff is very friendly
Course is in great shape. County water restrictions because of drought are having little affect on course overall
Very Nice Course
This was a very nice course. It was a hike to get there and not a convenient route. I thought it was over priced and the value isn't there to travel that distance. Also, range balls are not included which was shocking considering the price tag.
If you are in the area and not worried about price then this is a very nice course to play. Well maintained and friendly staff. Be aware that it was cart path only.
A very long walk spoiled
Great course, played it many times, however was cart path only maybe a bit over cautious, however, 5.5 hour round is unacceptable.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the longer round time and understand your frustration. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for future improvements.
A slow day
The course is a great layout. Both the greens and fairways are very green. A lit of deer on the course. In fact on almost every hole
Of course thar brings some problems . A lot of animal waste. I mean everywhere. A few shots ended up in the some goodies.
Pace of play is slow. 4.5 half 5 hour slow. I had a foursome ahead of me and they would not let me through..
9 comes back around to one and even with 3 groups wait on the tee, the starter said nothing to the slower than slow 3 some.
So nice course. Great layout with slow play and some obstacles
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the presence of animal waste and the pace of play. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration to improve our course and service. Thank you again for your review.
Vaaler Creek did not disappoint
Course was in great condition. Staff was very friendly. Pace was a bit slow but still an enjoyable round of golf.
Great course
This was our second trip in as many years, and it has proven to be a rewarding visit each time.
Beautiful Challenging Course but!!!!!!!!!
First of al this is probably the most beautiful challenging public course II have played in Central Texas. If there wasn’t a drought and the water was full it would be next level, but several factors make it not worth the drive or money. First the course is long and the fairways are wide. Because of the drought it is cart path only , but you don’t learn this until the first tee. There was a frost delay, but they did not handle it well . The starter did nothing to space out the groups. It was obvious he dud not want to be there. The clubhouse staff was really rude and dismissive. I won’t be going back unless they hire a new staff.
Thank you for your review and for acknowledging the beauty and challenge of our golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the drought and the cart path only policy. We appreciate your feedback regarding the handling of the frost delay and the behavior of our staff, and we will take it into consideration to improve our services. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Great course, but..
Love the course, but they need club/ball cleaners on the carts. I'm sure they have a reason, but cart path only with no wet conditions kinda makes for longer play. Also they do not have a liquor license to sell on the course.
Quality has gone down
Don’t get me wrong, course is still great to play but it’s the little things that make an overall round great & worth the money. It was cart path only & I get the excuse about water restrictions but there were several areas on the course that were over watered, soft, and soggy for it being in the 70’s & late afternoon. Greens were fluffy & slow and level of fringe onto greens was too high & thick; there was no gradual transition. Several trees need to have branches trimmed; we were on fairway several times with no shot to green due to limbs. This should happen if we were in rough but not in the fairway. Marshall was downright rude as well. Cart woman was friendly & she came around several times. Food at the turn was decent but definitely over priced. Vaaler used to be our groups favorite course to enjoy a round & relax but I’d have to give it a bogey.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at our golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cart path only rule and the issues with the course conditions. We appreciate your comments and will use them to improve our services.
Cart path only was a hassle but I understand that was not normal.
Great Hillcountry Course!
Course conditions and layout are excellent. Unfortunately, it was cart path only as overseeing was in progress so we had to walk and carry a few clubs each hole.
