Olympia Hills Golf Course
About
Olympia Hills Golf Course is very exciting and enhances San Antonio's reputation as a golf destination. A unique combination of natural topography and man-made mounds and bunkers make this a super course. Native South Texas vegetation and golf course grass seed formulations on fairways and greens will provide state-of-the-game playing surfaces. The views are spectacular, with several holes playing to greens well below the tees, while other lead to a significant rise to reach the putting surface. Fairways, which on some holes are tight, are often sloped and guarded by bunkers. The tips will not be played by the faint hearted, but with four sets of tee boxes, the course can be enjoyed by all levels of players.

Extremely confusing
First nine were awful. The course is under construction. It was 56 dollars to play nine temporary holes. I will not be playing again
Under construction
The course is under construction and a few holes are temporary or closed. I played it when it wasn't under construction and was a good experience. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I think they could offer a discount off the $55.00 rate during the week to help. I would recommend only because it's conveniently located for me.
construction
good tight course, but had a lot of construction going on so several holes were shortened and one closed, I felt that the price paid was too high, and should be cheaper until the construction is finished. had I known this before hand I would have played somewhere else.
interesting layout
Course had three holes under construction due to drainage cheek issue. Will play the course again after construction is completed.
for this time of year, early March, better shape than most courses in San Antonio.
They need a marshall.
Pace of play was horrible. From the very first tee, we always two groups on a tee box at a time.
Our group was waiting on the tee for the group in front to tee off, then the group behind users waiting on the tee for us to tee off.
Construction Zone
Overall the course was fine. There were a lot of temporary holes. I will let it go at that! When we got to the eighteenth hole…it didn’t exist! I had a good time in spite of the confusing rerouting, etc.
Z Man
Lots of rocks and pebbles in all bunkers. I mean a lot of rocks.
Will NEVER play there again!
The course had MAJOR CONSTRUCTION ongoing! (This was not noted on Golf Now!) On the front nine there were three holes converted to temporary PAR 3s. The pace of play was beyond describable. By the 4th hole there were 4 foursomes waiting to play! When checking in, they allowed a foursome to get pushed in that was 30 minutes late for their tee time. When the cashier called the starter who stated that they were already backed up but was told to put them in anyway!!! There was absolutely no monitoring of the pace of play!! There was a three-some ahead of us that spent 5-10 minutes after each shot looking for their balls. I think it was their first time playing golf. After 8 holes we jumped to club-house and complained.....nothing we can do about it....... We were offered a rain check for the 11 holes we didn't play..... Thank you, NO! I will never, never, never ever return this course!!! Note, I have played this course several times in the past and never had this level of play, poor course condition or unprofessional service! What a shame, it was a nice course!!
Brutal front nine
This course is under construction. The back nine was fun and challenging but the front nine is under major changes. The greens were not green, tee boxes were hard as rock. Probably will be nice after the construction is finished but that is likely a long time into the future
Nice Course, but Needs Work
Good course with a challenging layout and great terrain. However, it needs a lot of work. There is a lot of hardpan soil in many areas and the sand traps are terrible. Some have good sand, others are dirt or dirt mix and very inconsistent. The driving range is ok, but the hitting area is full of divots that have never been filled in.
just ok
nice course for the money except greens are the worst i've seen here in a long time
Winter Conditions and Wow... Windy!
This is not the first time playing thise course and based on the recent heavy rains and cold snap, the conditions of the course were rather poor, allow me to elaborate.
1. Rain water collection in most sand traps, so they were generally unplayable. This will of course improve through time.
2. Washed out areas on greens; there were a few greens where they were making improvements (obviously), but the weather made a huge impact to them being non-playable based on where the ball ended up.
3. Pace of play was horrific, even though I saw the marshal a few times; I didn't see him making any effort to move people along. Total time to play 18 was a little under 5 hours. (NOTE - the high winds did not help, but there were some players ahead of me that should have been playing a few tee boxes up vs. where they were playing from)
4. Would be helpful to see where other carts are on the GPS provided screens on each of the carts; as there are a few holes where this would be very helpful to improve pace of play.
The front nine are more difficult than the back nine and this is a challenging course. I will wait till the Wx improves to play here again. The starter was very friendly, but he could have spaced out the starts a bit more because we started the back up on hole 2 and it did not improve and it really backed up on holes 10 and 11; this did not improve for the remainder of the round.
There are some very nice views from this course and we had plenty of wild life in the rounds.
Olympia Hills is so slow
We are running out of sub-$100 per round courses in San Antonio. Thankfully Olympia Hills has not lost its mind and is overcharging for a nominal course.
However for that same low green fee you get— people backing up the #2 tee box which is a par five because they won’t tee off until the group ahead of them is off of the green.
You have people who get out of their cart, walk 100 yd or more over to their ball, walk back to the cart to get a club, and then hit a 15 yd topped shot and goes through that time suck all over again.
And before anyone says,” tell a Marshall” let me add that there were none that we saw. When we book our round, Golf Now gave us the four hour window and I joked “what if we’re not finished?” Well maybe they should cut you off at the four hour mark to get people to hurry.
It’s not a sin to be a bad golfer. It is a sin to be a slow golfer.
The rest of the course is just fine. Sure some of the tee boxes are not in great condition and some of the greens and bunkers (especially those ones holding ponds of water in them) need work but this is a public course and it is in good shape for that. Definitely worth the money provided you don’t get stuck behind two somes that are slower than five-somes.
