Olympia Hills Golf Course
About
Olympia Hills Golf Course is very exciting and enhances San Antonio's reputation as a golf destination. A unique combination of natural topography and man-made mounds and bunkers make this a super course. Native South Texas vegetation and golf course grass seed formulations on fairways and greens will provide state-of-the-game playing surfaces. The views are spectacular, with several holes playing to greens well below the tees, while other lead to a significant rise to reach the putting surface. Fairways, which on some holes are tight, are often sloped and guarded by bunkers. The tips will not be played by the faint hearted, but with four sets of tee boxes, the course can be enjoyed by all levels of players.

Nice Course, but Needs Work
Good course with a challenging layout and great terrain. However, it needs a lot of work. There is a lot of hardpan soil in many areas and the sand traps are terrible. Some have good sand, others are dirt or dirt mix and very inconsistent. The driving range is ok, but the hitting area is full of divots that have never been filled in.
just ok
nice course for the money except greens are the worst i've seen here in a long time
Winter Conditions and Wow... Windy!
This is not the first time playing thise course and based on the recent heavy rains and cold snap, the conditions of the course were rather poor, allow me to elaborate.
1. Rain water collection in most sand traps, so they were generally unplayable. This will of course improve through time.
2. Washed out areas on greens; there were a few greens where they were making improvements (obviously), but the weather made a huge impact to them being non-playable based on where the ball ended up.
3. Pace of play was horrific, even though I saw the marshal a few times; I didn't see him making any effort to move people along. Total time to play 18 was a little under 5 hours. (NOTE - the high winds did not help, but there were some players ahead of me that should have been playing a few tee boxes up vs. where they were playing from)
4. Would be helpful to see where other carts are on the GPS provided screens on each of the carts; as there are a few holes where this would be very helpful to improve pace of play.
The front nine are more difficult than the back nine and this is a challenging course. I will wait till the Wx improves to play here again. The starter was very friendly, but he could have spaced out the starts a bit more because we started the back up on hole 2 and it did not improve and it really backed up on holes 10 and 11; this did not improve for the remainder of the round.
There are some very nice views from this course and we had plenty of wild life in the rounds.
Olympia Hills is so slow
We are running out of sub-$100 per round courses in San Antonio. Thankfully Olympia Hills has not lost its mind and is overcharging for a nominal course.
However for that same low green fee you get— people backing up the #2 tee box which is a par five because they won’t tee off until the group ahead of them is off of the green.
You have people who get out of their cart, walk 100 yd or more over to their ball, walk back to the cart to get a club, and then hit a 15 yd topped shot and goes through that time suck all over again.
And before anyone says,” tell a Marshall” let me add that there were none that we saw. When we book our round, Golf Now gave us the four hour window and I joked “what if we’re not finished?” Well maybe they should cut you off at the four hour mark to get people to hurry.
It’s not a sin to be a bad golfer. It is a sin to be a slow golfer.
The rest of the course is just fine. Sure some of the tee boxes are not in great condition and some of the greens and bunkers (especially those ones holding ponds of water in them) need work but this is a public course and it is in good shape for that. Definitely worth the money provided you don’t get stuck behind two somes that are slower than five-somes.
Pathetic
No grass on greens or fairways. Sometimes 3 groups on a tee at the same time. No ranger in sight. Simply the worse course we have ever paid for. Stopped after 9 holes
Greens burnt out
Only 8 minutes between tee times. 6 hour round. Overpacked. 4 to 6 somes on every tee, fairway and green on each hole. Greens totally burnt out. Count even keep the ball on the green.
My home course
We absolutely love Olympia Hills. The staff is always very friendly, drink selection at the bar is great, course layout is fun and the condition of the fairways and greens have improved quite a bit. There is currently work being done on the course but it doesn't take away from the experience. The team has worked really hard to improve conditions and it shows.
Bad Shape
Even if this course had no construction, the course is is very poor shape. Greens are bad. Fairways hard and concrete. Well placed shots run through fairways into places you would never have imagined. We paid $73 per/person. This track is worth about $35 for 18.
Front 9 Under Construction
The front 9 is a complete cluster F and beat up. They’re repairing or rerouting a creek on the front 9 which led to multiple temporary holes and driving all over. The carts GPS was even confused. The back 9 was in great shape. Friendly and compassionate staff, not their fault, hopefully leading to better future conditions.
Management Sucks
Frost delay. No update by email. 7 hrs to play 15 holes. Greens suck badly. Bunkers full of water, no rain in 4 days. Money should have been refunded. Nice layout.
Tee boxes are fantastic!
Since they over seeded for the winter the tee boxes are the best in town. The couse is in great shape for wintertime playing. The staff is friendly and the food is great too. This couse is one of my favorites.
Don’t waste your time
Booked online for $55 and at the course they charge $63 because of taxes and fees that aren’t disclosed. Showed up to the first tee with 3 other groups and the starter had no clue what he was doing. Couldn’t remember anyones name or cart number to get groups out. Bar staff saved the day for us and were super helpful.
