Busy, due to COVID-19, but in great shape
This was my first time at ShadowGlen, and it did not disappoint. The greens were in great shape, a little hard, but rolled true. The fairways were impeccable. Some of the tee boxes (I played gold) could use work, but overall it was worth every cent. There are some tough holes (the par 5s on the back), so don’t be afraid to play the easier tees. Definitely recommend a round out here. Also, the clubhouse has great beers on draft for after the round, and a very friendly and cute staff.
Great Course, Great Condition
Course is in excellent condition, you can tell they are putting money back into the course and making it even better. Will be back!
Cheering Section Hole 2
The pace of play was slow. The group in front of us had three carts and were VERY selective of their shots, which ended up poorly after swinging anyway. Overall, the course itself was in fairly good shape. Good greens, well kept fairways, and looked good. The sand bunkers are awful, like hitting off the cart path.
Beware hole number 2. There is a washed up old man living there who loves to scream at people on the fairway. If you want a real treat, accidentally hit your ball even remotely near his fence, he thinks he is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and will come scream during your shots. Almost worth the price of admission itself.
Not sure why they flip flop first nine holes with back nine, its SUCKS.
Play this course couple times a month. Challenging but fair course. Good tee box selection to fit player handicap . Having played yesterday, the greens are in excellent condition. Amazing considering the amount of play. Great to see they are continuing with ongoing upgrades, improvements to the course. Friendly, positive staff and ownership. Worth every penny. Thank you.
Best Public Course in Austin
You really can't beat this place, It's not that there's any one thing that's just way better than any other course its that they check all the boxes. It's away from the city and very serene and quiet out there, you only hear cars and highway noise on a few holes. Back 9 is gorgeous when the sun sets. The layout is very unique and a big reason why I keep coming back. It's totally different than the rest of Austin, its surrounded by tall deciduous trees and while there's lots of elevation changes, it's not hill country elevation change style. Nonetheless they still have some links style holes. The layout overall is challenging to a level where you can feel good about your game posting a good round here. but its super playable from the forward tees.
The course is typically in good shape, the greens were pretty rough after they aerated a few months ago but they are way better now which is amazing considering this place is booked up everyday. The bunkers are rough and my guys always b**** but they are hazards you are supposed to be penalized for hitting in them.
But just the overall atmosphere out there is incredible. its a real golf course but without the snobby uptight feel. You go to some courses and the staff all acts like they have staff bags shoved up their ***es. Here they got dogs walking around the clubhouse, Tigers masters wins on replay in the bar, real Texas country music playing and the staff is all young and cool.
Thanks for the great review brother! More improvements to come, see you next time!
Shadow Glenn is a great course with different elevations, tricky bunker and water hazards.
Great fun to play.
Good course with a great layout!!! Some blind shots and very nice greens!
Thanks for your review, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the course!
Hills hills hills
Very much a link style. Some holes are set up harder than need be. Bunkers need work and tee boxes need a little sod. Good staff and a decent course
Could use a marshall. Sand traps are needing improvement. Other then that nice course. Difficult, lots of blind shots. Will play again.
Thanks for your review, pace of play is something that will always be a focus of ours and we are working on having the course marshalled at all times.
The bunkers are also something we plan on renovating, however due to the extremely costly nature of a project there are other improvements we plan on making first
I had never been to Shadowglen golf course and I was very impressed with the staff and how nice the club was. The golf cart were more upgraded than a public course. The course was in excellent shape and I LOVE the fact they had a refreshment cart coming around to see if you need anything. Now I got a hotdeal off of golfnow and that is why my greens fees were reasonable otherwise its a little expensive but it makes sense its a golf club not a public course. You get nice amenities and that is what you pay for which is what the green fees are for. I found the course extremely challenging but it is for a more advanced player. I am a beginner but you will still have a great time. Take advantage of this great club. Their pro shop and their bar and grill are outstanding.
Go enjoy yourself at this luxurious golf course its worth the money.
I am A beginner this course was tough but challenging. Players should be aware lots of valleys bunkers a few water holes hills. I loved the fact that had a refreshment cart that came around all day. Course was in excellent shape. Staff really friendly they have a 19th hole that is open wearing a mask in clubhouse due to corona virus. I loved it. Didn’t play well but who cares had a great time. It will challenge all levels of players. Highly recommend it. They have a putting green also. Go check it out for yourself.
Had a Blast
Course was in excellent shape and layout was really fun and challenging, was genuinely surprised in a good way.. Staff was friendly and the food truck (Brazilian food) was excellent. Only complaint was slow play but I'm sure it's one of the busiest days of the year so can't really gripe too much about that.
Thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed the course! Thanks for being understanding about the slow play, it was the busiest Friday of the year. We take pace of play very seriously and are always trying to improve this.
Shadow Glen is a potentially great course made average at best by inattention to upkeep & management. To say it was rough around the edges is an understatement. There was a lot of unmown long grass & weed-grass in the fairways, hard pan dirt in areas that are just worn out. Some of the tee boxes were missing markers. Was playing blue tees, but couldn’t find them on two or three holes (they just plain weren’t there). Good layout and design but needs some management/leadership. I can play superior courses for less throughout the area.
Dang Terry you shoot a 90 or something? Don't think you're playing superior courses for less money, but maybe ones that are easier!
Great track, greens rolling well again and not too fast fairways were super lush and just beautiful views all around the course. Made the turn in an hour 40, back nine was an hour slower but it’s a busy Sunday so what do you expect. Only minor complaint wish they had a bridge or tunnel going across street to back nine cars were speeding up so carts couldn’t cross. But overall we had a great time out there. we’ll be back.
Thanks for your review! We have been urging the city for years to build a tunnel. It took 2 years just to get a speed bump. With as busy as it is, we are focusing on pace of play more than ever. Hope to have you back soon!
This place has really turned itself around. Used to be able to just show up at noon on a Saturday and get off right away now you got to book by Wednesday to get a Saturday morning tee time. Course is absolutely beautiful right now, a bit windy but it honestly makes it more fun since lots of hard holes play downwind and become legit scoring opportunities. Pace of play was right around 4:30, which is slower than it has been in recent weeks but one of the marshalls is battling cancer and had to leave early which I completely understand.
Staff is refreshingly young and friendly and overall atmosphere there is just great, it's not the snobby country club feel at all. Will be playing here on Saturday a lot more from now on.
I come out here 3-4 nights per week after work and get a quick 18 in. No better place to be in the twilight hours. Like 13 of 18 holes are isolated from rest of course so you can literally be out there and not see any other groups unless they are on the same hole as you. Its a beautiful track and a fun layout; although can be challenging depending on where wind is coming from. Easily one of the best value courses in the Austin area.
Course was great but,,,,,
The greens were so bumpy and that the bunkers were filled with mud and water plus had a bunch of weeds growing in the fairways and rough
