Will be coming back
Beautiful course. Played in the morning and finished in just over 3 hours. Fun layout, every hole was great but there were some that were really breathtaking. Great condition, greens were in pretty good shape, green, some still slightly bumpy from the aerating but not bad. Overall loved it and will be coming back.
All good but the greens need help
Great layout. Course condition was 75% great. The greens are struggling with the heat. About 10-15% of each green has some sort of burnout and/or sod replaced. They're obviously trying to address the issue, but it IS an issue. Other than that, would recommend highly!
Challenging Layout, Great Condition
Shadowglen is in great shape right now. The layout is always a fun test, especially when the wind is blowing. Tee boxes and fairways are in fantastic shape. Greens are rolling very nicely for this time of year in Austin, and they all are in great shape outside of a few rough spots on the fourth green (but they typically have the pin located in a way such that the rough spots don’t impact putts). The course offers tee box options for any level of golfer, and a great mix of challenging and gettable holes. Be weary of the seemingly-inviting par 5 12th. Definitely give Shadowglen a whirl if you’re looking for somewhere to play in the Austin area.
We appreciate your review and look forward to having you back! We were able to finish sodding the remaining damaged spots of 4 and hope to have it completely healed in the next couple of weeks.
Greens were probably the bumpiest I have ever played on.
Shadowglen
Course is in good shape other than a few of greens. They have been aerated, but there are a few that are so badly damaged that it may take a complete rework to make them playable.
Sweet layout/Rough greens
Greens were super beat but it’s up there for best layouts in Austin. Hopefully conditions improve because it has a ton of potential
Pricey course!
Overall a good course. Some of the greens needed work. Not a good value for the money spent. I can spend about the same amount at much nicer course.
Wish there was a 150 marker
All of the markers on the sprinkler heads were gone and there was not a 150 marker or 100 marker? Better bring your distance finder.
Great course.
Quite a challenge! Beautiful course with beautiful wild flowers and great natural layout of trees orchards.
Cart Path Only
Some areas of course were very wet and cart path on those made sense. Others were dry enough to take cart out, at least into the rough. Lots of walking, I think this kept the crowd down, which was a plus.
Higher price, lesser quality. Major declines over the years
Short and sweet for everyone... I used to love this course because it was pristine at a somewhat reasonable price. While difficult, it was arguably the most well kept course in town. That was five years ago. Now and over the last few years, it has gone downhill. The greens are in shambles. The staff didn't inform, either over the phone or upon our arrival, that the course had issues (portions of holes being off-limits, all greens being either dead or with replacement squares of grass, and price increases). For $95 bucks, I cannot recommend. For $50, i'd still pass. You simply cannot track your handicap on this course at this time. I'll try again in another couple years when conditions improve. Tried to include a picture but not sure if it will work. perhaps try google or other review, can't be the only one who experienced this.
Thank you for getting back to me. In reading other comments, it appears my review is reciprocated. It was $95 with a shared cart so I'm thinking $75 round + $20 per seat in the cart which also seems a bit hefty. Either way, cost well outweighed conditions, especially the greens.
We did have issues with 4 of our greens due to the unusually hard freezes over the winter. I'm sorry that you were not informed of the conditions. Our highest green fee is $79 and there were never portions of holes being off limits or entire greens being dead. After the recent rains and warm temps the course has recovered very quickly.
We appreciate your review. Some of our greens were damaged in the winter freezes. The sod farms got hit hard as well and we were finally able to finish the repairs. The greens are recovering very quickly and we plan to be 100% in the next week or two.
