Golf? Maybe. Fun, Yes!!
Take a putt putt course, a breathtaking mountain course, a finely manicured desert course, a trailer park, a top golf, 18 billion sharp rocks, and a cactus in a blender. Lay it out over 7000 yards in a shape dictated by Dr Seuss through a bad phone connection and what do you get? A southern Colorado gem, that's what, and this course is all about fun.
As with anything fun, you have to be in the right mindset to have it. If you come to 4 mile ranch with the notion of shooting your handicap, experiencing a true test of golf, or to wring the courses neck, stay home. This is the devils golf course.
If you want to have some laughs, see some incredibly unlikely shots, take some selfies, and enjoy some of the most beautiful vistas and indeed, course conditions in Colorado, this is the spot. Blind tee shots, approaches, I even had a blind putt. Balls hit into the native areas will do miraculous things. Bounce into the fairway, hole themselves, come back at you, vanish into thin air. The greens will make you think about putting in a totally different way, with mounding you could fall off, tiers that are so far apart they have different weather, and all so, so fast. How they mow some of them is a mystery. Yes, sir four mile is a wild, wild place, and you may not want to show anyone your scorecard, but you'll never ever forget it.
Bring your own food, and treat beverages like you would if you were going out on a boat, as amenities are next to nothing. Wear long pants and leather golf shoes regardless of heat because of cacti and the generally treacherous nature of the hazards, which you will find. Absolutely get a yardage book,, scorecards are personal preference. Fun is mandatory. If you take a friend who takes him game very seriously here, bring him a silly hat to get him in the mood. And don't bring a new box of proV1s , it won't help, and burning $50 takes less time. I couldn't make it my home course, but for a laid back Saturday game with your friends, you can't do better within 500 miles. Go and see!
scenic and challenging course
We always enjoy golfing at 4 Mile golf course. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the scenery is beautiful, and the course offers a challenge every time. My husband got a hole-in-one for the first time on Hole 7! You do need to bring all of your amenities, IE food and beverage, because there is absolutely nothing offered. I understand that there is a new owner who will hopefully improve the pro shop and offer food and drink.
Getting Better
The front 9 was in good shape. The Back 9 had more recent aeration but should be in good shape by the end of April. They were actively attending the back 9 greens so it wasnt really difficult. Would play again before end of April.
Always a great time
We had some slow golfers ahead but we always enjoy the course and the staff is consistently friendly and helpful.
Early Spring Conditions
This is a fun course. The greens really test your putt putt skills. The grass is just starting to green up. It is my number 1 course to play in late Fall, Winter and early Spring.
Nice Outing
Always a nice course to play. Really coming around and greening up. Shame is it's still cart path only. Would be nice IF it were 90 degree run or just drive in the rough.
Surreal experience
Although it was very dry and Gale-force winds, the layout and forgiveness of the course was wonderful. All washers were dry, no water available on the course. Rules say that you must be in collared shirts with no blue jeans, but they were forgiving all blue jeans. Can’t understand why they’re trying to make it that level. Cannot bring golf cart onto the parking lot, so you do have to carry your clubs to where the carts are stationed. Overall wonderful course to play
We love 4 Mile and play there as often as we can. It is our favorite course. Wish you had more carts though. Our friend we played with badly needed his own cart and almost did not get one!! But we certainly DO love the course and will be back soon.
Winter golf
Always a nice course to visit and play. It was cart path only so we got our exercise. Nice there are no bunkers to navigate. Love the blind shots that force you to trust your club and swing.
Heard there are new owners. They need a real clubhouse and restaurant.
Rare year round course in the Mountains
It’s the first time I have played golf in the Mountains of Colorado on Dec. 30. It started a little breezy and chilly, but we were soon dropping layers. The course is in amazing condition for this time of year. Only once in 18 holes did I hit into a patch of snow. Not so impossible that I couldn’t hit out. I love the challenge of this course.
Too much walking for us
My wife thinks there is too much walking when you can drive in the fairways. It was cart path only and she hated it.
