It's an Exectutive Course
Greens slow as molasses
0nly 1 par five.
Go there ONLY if you are desperate to play!
Lots of leaves on the greens.
It's a par 62(?) course.
Course
The greens need some improvement staff were nice but manager not very flexible.
I'm spoiled, but not here
I realize that I play a lot of different courses, and am a bit picky about course conditions. I take in whether it's public, semi, or private, number of rounds, cost, etc. I paid very little to play here courtesy of a last minute GN discount. So, perhaps, I should not complain.
However, the condition of the course in general, and the greens in particular, was not very good. It is obvious that there is a limitation in the agronomy available, as very little of the course was consistent in what types of plants and grasses dominated. I expect won't play this course again.
That being said, the folks there were terrific. We (a young man of vacation) were first out, and finished in just a couple of ours. We caught the staff on the course and they were friendly and accommodating.
All that said, I suppose many will find the course adequate for a friendly round. I won't recommend it, but as I said up front, I'm a bit of a course snob I guss.
Better Conditions for the $$ Are Available
They didn't have my reservation from Golf Now! Another group asked me to join them at 12:15. Course has serious Ground Under Repair on just about every green. Good layout for iron practice, but not worth $60 a round.
Good place to work on your irons
Good place to work on your irons. Layout is fair. Mostly par 3's. Greens were in good condition but very slow. Most affordable golf in Naples area.
Worst course I have ever play. Greens were horrible and there was a smell in the air from the nearby recycling center that almost turned your stomach
Great place for Naples winter Golf
We teed off at 1:37. We had no one in front of us or behind us. We easily played without interruption, delay or pressure. There were some areas where repairs were needed, but they did not impact our enjoyment of our round.
Dissapointing
Played this course last winter. It was in much better shape. This year, tee boxes all uneven, greens in bad shape. Not worth the money.
OK Course for couples or a fast round
Played here with a buddy with our hickories. Even though we played the forward tees, we got a good sense about the course. They definitely have some condition issues on the greens and several tee boxes but overall it was playable. Mostly par 4's and not a lot of water, unlike Lakewood which is nearby. No one there so wee breezed around.
Will return here with my wife for sure.
Green shape
The greens were in poor shape. Not worth the regular price they charge. Over the last two years the price has increased by $20. If I wasn't booking a hot deal through golf now I would not play this course. The extra money for other courses would be worth it.
it's back
They had bad grass that didn't survive the summer. But with heavy seeding and care the course is 90% back and better. Fairways have good grass and greens are putting much faster with only isolated bad spots which are under repair. Should be 98% by mid January.
No way fenwickwood, NO WAY! I live here and I know better. The greens are no where near 90%, more likely 48% if at all!
Don't do it people, not at this cost when Lakewood CC is a MUCH better and minutes away.
Since I was Asked.........
This is the fourth time in 12 months I have written a review for Riviera Golf Club. I do so reluctantly, but as a favor to my fellow golfers in this neighborhood who ask me to do so. I and my friends live in the adjacent neighborhood, known as Riviera Golf Estates, with NO relation to the golf course of the same name. Many of my friends work for the golf course, Riviera Golf Club. Over the past year the course has, with diligence of the owners, made attempts to recover from their loss of greens and teeing areas. At the prompting of my friends I once again forfeited a sum of money to play the course they had touted as "better" than the last time I played.
Dave in the Pro Shop was interesting to speak with and we have a similar take upon the course and the cost for play as compared to the actual conditions of the course.
As I have mentioned previously, this course in "PERFECT" condition is comparable to Pinehurst Number 3, a Donald Ross Design. NOT SO today! The owner(S) have made a weak attempt, in the last few months, to make the course more appealing to the eye but no real progress to 'revamping' the course to return to its status prior to 2005. The owner(s) have to this point in time only made a weak attempt in aesthetically improving the course with RYE GRASS. The greens and other formally barren spots through out the course are now a brilliant green in color but the true nature of the lay of the land is in great need of REPAIR.
On the day we played there was still no level spot on any tee box area to properly tee a ball and make a proper tee shot. The fairways were a luscious green color but the dollar weed still prevails along the parameters. The greens which last summer had barren spots were now covered in RYE grass and the morning footprints (We played after 2:30 pm) were visible therein. The speed of the putting surface if at all possible may have been 6 on a STEMP meter.
I have lived and played here (Naples, Fl area) for more than one year now. I am a golfer of more than 36 years experience and have played courses in many parts of the World. Riviera Golf Club is NOT a course I would recommend to any one of any level of play. Especially when so many near by courses offer a much better experience for an equal or lesser amount of money.
My Friends, PLEASE DO NOT patronize this facility! At LEAST until they make a TRUE CONCERTED effort to make it the great place it once was and can be again.
I am fairly sure I know orielly. We live and work here in Riviera. Are you sure, orielly, you will recommend this course to a friend; a stranger? Truth be told, would you have me come play this course with you at $55.00? REALLY?
DON'T do it people! Save your money and travel around the block to Lakewood, you will be SO glad you did.
rapidly improving
What a difference from 2 months ago. Fairways now lush and thick with very few remaining bare spots. Greens are much better with most bare spots repaired and the rest actively being repaired. Things have changed for the better here.
rutrow52, to a lesser extent I am in agreement with you BUT "LUSH" fairways? Surely thou jest!
REALLY you recommend this course to people you do not know? How could they respect you following their round at $55.00 ? Especially if they travel to Lakewood CC afterward?
Love ya rutrow52 but you are DEAD wrong on this.
First course in Florida Not the Best
I knew it was mostly a par 3 course which is what I was looking for to start my golf trip off down in Florida. The tee boxes looked as if they had forgotten to mowed for several weeks. The fairway was in good shape however 8 of the greens were in terrible shape,. Five additional greens they seemed to be trying to improve, which left just 5 greens in good shape. I would have been pretty upset if I had paid full price but since I only paid $15 for the full 18 it wasn't that bad then.
Short but much improved
Greens have all been redone and all new carts help this short course look and play better
u000005594687, The greens were sown with a rye grass that will die in the course of a year. The new carts are on a three or four year lease. IF these two "redone"(s) are your perception of "better" I suggest you make the trip of an eight minuted drive to Lakewood Country Club to see what a proper "Executive" course can and should be played looks like. At a lesser $ rate to play I might add.
great course for all ages
a lot of effort has been put into this course and it shows in it's greens, fairways and tee boxes, come see for yourself you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I agree they have made an effort but the efforts have been weak and almost to no avail. stkrlika53, if you are a true friend of Riviera Golf Club, state the facts, the tees need reshaping, the greens are a mess and do not putt well at all. All the effort has been to improve the visual not the underlying basics of true golf surfaces. Those greens are in dire need of replacement and the tees need resurfacing. If however, the color green is is your concept of "improvement" you must be a happy camper in the RYE that will die as it is a annual grass.
Just saying.
well stated jjsabo0613! I think you were very generous in your two star rating however.
