could be a good course, but not.
This course needs work. Good layout, but long. Wind into you on nearly every hole, 96 dedree's HOT!
Traps were like playing on concrete
Shafted
Manager would not honor discount because I forgot my GolfNow Reservation even after I got confirmation number. NOTE=Done forget your paper work or you will get shafted. I guess older people must be perfect.
Marion Oaks
Warrior is trying to improve this course. It's a long slow process because the course was in such bad shape when they purchased it and it's sister course, Huntington. If they continue at the pace that are currently doing, in about 5 years the course should be done.
potential
I think under careful attention to the fairways and greens this course could be a four out of five, regrettably its at least two years away.People and staff need no improvement whatsoever, very helpful and knowledgeable.
Marion Improved
This is the first time I've played Marion Oaks in 8 years. I understand it is under new management and it has improved from what it was in the past. The tee boxes need leveling and the bunkers need daily prep. The proshop and restaurant staff were excellent.
greens
greens and fairways were in real good shape, tee boxes were terrible. the course needs help maintaining cart paths and needs to hire a landscaper for the whole course
Wouldn't play again for free.
Greens were in such bad shape the front nine was closed. Fairways were full of crabgrass and if your ball went into the rough you probably wouldn't find it. We quit after nine. I played this course regularly about 20 years ago and loved it. It's a shame it has gone so far downhill. The Saturday I played (estimated date) there were a total of four cars in the parking lot, including staff.
beautiful day
everything was great A to Z.the greens were nice and slick.tea boxes and fairways were nice.
Marion Oaks
The course overall was in good condition. The greens were in excellent condition, rolling smooth and fairly fast. I liked them as I had 26 putts.
Course is a little long
I had a very good time. The rough was sparse so if you were way off the fairway you were hitting off of hardpan. The greens on the front were in better shape than on the back.
For a shorter hitter 200-225 on drive the course played long. Many doglegs which made it fun also.
Course is in good condition
This course features Proshot GPS installed on every cart. The fairways and greens are in good condition and there are no fairway bunkers or water holes on the course. The greens were fairly fast and putted true. My only complaint would be that the distance between the back men's tees and the front tees are too long. The mens white tees measure 6300 yards and the next tees up are 1100 yards shorter. They need to install some middle distance tees.
I would recommend this course as a confidence builder. You should be able to score well on it.
Worth a revisit
Have not played here in well over 10 yrs. was. Dry surprised by course conditions fairways and greens were very good. Tee boxes and rough, not so much. They have added gps to carts. The clubhouse, cart paths and other areas are in need of some attention. But overall I will be adding Marion oaks back to my rotation.
A little long for seniors
The course was in good shape, fairways were good and the greens were in fairly good shape. This course would need some tees to let it play aorund 6000 yards for the seniors, otherwise the front tees tees are just abut 10 yards longer then the womans tees. It plays longer because of the do legs.
Great 4 locals
For The price it's okay. The driving range need some grass to hit off of. Bring your cooler and snacks there is no cart service for beverages and food.
With a little bit of maintenance this could be a very nice course.
Enjoy the course but ---
I have been playing the Oaks for years and even remember it before the hurricane changed it forever. It is a good course that like many local courses suffers from a lack of finances from time to time. It is slowly getting better but with that said it had a long way to go.
My biggest problem the last few times I have played is the pace of play. On two separate occasions lately we have played behind 6-somes. I'm sure they joined up due to slow play BUT - no marshals or help from the Pro shop.
Took forever to get the round in.
This is a fairly nice layout but the people running the place act as though they never have been on a golf course in their life. There are no Marshalls on the course and on the day I played we followed a six some. Took forever to get in the round. Bunkers aren't raked, ball marks aren't repaired and divots aren't filled in. Could be a very good golf course with better management.
Slow play course is a work in progress
Greens were hard and fast, but had patches of different types of grasses so putting was a challenge! Tee boxes need work as well as fairways. I brought my golf now coupon which showed what was owed , but girl at counter calculated each amount incorrectly. When this was pointed out to her, she ignored. GPS on golf carts was nice, but course took too long to play and we were backed up on the first tee so we did not get started until 1/2 hour later.
Fast greens
Was a little disappointed in course conditions. I was told by friends that conditions were excellent but found them to be average. Would go back but would not pay full price.
