Bad Bad Bad
This course used to be decent about 5 years ago. This place has been run into the ground! Downed trees all over the course from the hurricane. Golf carts are run down. Instead of grass they fertilize weeds. The whole experience was depressing, just because it's cheap does not mean it's good.
course conditions
I had played the course before and enjoyed it. Any day playing golf is a good day. Not sure who owns this course, but the course is in "terrible" condition. With few exceptions, it does not look like one piece of debris has been removed. The fair ways have little or no grass and the greens are weedy. The course could use a huge dose of maintenance and up grades. But I did enjoy the day and the weather was perfect.
Good for the money
Needs TLC everywhere. Lots of damage to the trees from hurricane. Cart was decrepit. Stir OK for the money.
Mathew's turmoil!!
The course had a lot of debris from the recent hurricane. They are busy getting it back in shape. There was a lot of trees blown down, but it didn't interfere with playing too much. You just took relief from the pile of debris if your ball went in it and the debris was on the sides of the fairways. We will go back again and play it. The course is long for the rank amateur golfer, and the greens are well bunkered.
Worst experience ever
First they were not able to pull up my golf now reservation. The staff was unfriendly and give us a hard time about our reservation for four even after it was verified by phone. The course was in the worst shape I've ever seen any golf course. We golfed for holes on the front nine and stops golfing afterwards. We asked the golf attendant whether or not The back nine would be in better shape, he replied that his equipment had been broken for two weeks so it would not be any better.
Nice course for the price.
Had some friends come back home, so I invited them out for a round. They were pretty upset with the condition of the course. Grass was not cut in fairways or the roughs. Couldn't find our golf balls hit in the fairways half the time, which slowed the pace. I have played here before and it was in good shape.
greens putted nicly
tee boxes and fairways need work, greens are better than last month, good for the money, nice wildlife, hawks, osprey, fox, rabbits
Poor maintenance
We were excited to play this course because it is close to home and it was well priced for 18 holes. Boy were we disappointed...you could barely tell the difference between tee boxes, fairways, and the rough. Greens played okay, but they were still in pretty rough shape. One good thing is that the supposed fairways were nice and wide even though lined with trees. This would be a great couse if it was maintained properly or even if it was mowed. Cannot count how many times it took us forever to find our golf galls in the fairway because of tall, thick grass. I do not like to give bad reviews but, maybe this will help in bringing this course up to par.
Not a good experience
Fairways are like playing in your backyard that has not been taken care of for years. Tee boxes were worse --like a cow pasture. Greens are on terrible shape and are either full of bare ground or have a lot of weeds. The course layout is excellent and challenging though.
Horrible
The conditions of this course we're so bad that I did not even finish my bucket of balls on the driving range (basically a sand trap). After paying for my round I returned the cart/half a bucket of balls/cooler(kept the beers of course)/and left before even teeing off the first hole. I do not think this place will be around much longer, I don't know how it is still in service now to be honest.
Good challenging layout
The greenskeeper is working very hard with a very small budget. The owners or a new owner could develop a very solid track, but it would require a financial input. At present it is a good value for the fees.
Cheap - good practice course
Upkeep is really lacking HOWEVER if you can get a cheap rate (booked for $12 for 18 holes) it is a great practice course. Staff wasn't too friendly. The weather was threatening and two of us managed to play 18 in 3 hours.
Worst corse ever played
Tomoka Oaks is in horrible shape. Nice layout but needs lots of work. Pace of play was very slow.
Getting better
This course used to be in bad shape but has improved a great deal in the past 6 months or so. Roughs are cut down, fairways are descent, greens roll nice but still need a little work and reasonable rates for the area.
Great layout
Course needs grooming but pleasant layout and great staff.
A little tlc and it could be very nice
This is a beautiful course....that said it really needs some tlc. All of the rough was sand and dirt. A little money put in and it could be a very nice place to play.
makes for a good golf day
first time on course. I liked it. some straight on holes but good dog legs also. small greens reward good chips. greens also moderately fast.
Oak tree lined fairways.
This course is a no frills excursion. I don't say that in a negative way. There are courses you pay big money for someone to unload your clubs, clean your clubs, all that jazz. Too many people savage courses with their reviews on GolfNow because they expect frills everywhere they go. I enjoyed my round. The Fairways were very green and in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were ok. Greens were puttable, They are a work in process. This course played long. There were several par 4's at 400 yards or better. Plenty of bailout areas but if your too far left or right those oak tree lined fairways will block you. Not much water, but the few ponds they have are hidden from the tees and will sneak up on you. Pace of play was very good for a Saturday. We enjoyed our round and if we're in the area again won't hesitate to play this course again.
hidden gem
bring ur A game some long holes some tight fairways and very small greens couple of greens were iffy but overall great course very long from tips
