Skirting the Storm
Found a great tee time for early morning and went out betting the storms would hold off. The course is in great shape from the tee box to the greens. Made it thru 16 then a lite drizzle on 17 and the bottom dropped out on 18. looking forward to playing this course again.
Does not get any better
Found a great tee time and rate on golf now showed up early and took off about 7:00am. Still a little dew on the grass but that is to be expected early in the morning. The fairways were in really good shape and the greens are fantastic. Played 18 holes solo in about 2 1/2 hours. Not in a rush and was quite surprised when I saw what time it was putting my clubs in the car. Grabbed a breakfast sandwich on my way out and will definitely be back to play again.
Need a Credit.
We had rain the day we played and one of our people in our group called out because of rain. The course did have rain that day and a lot of people left because of rain. Is there anyway I can get my credit to my account for the 1 person who didn’t play?
Nice Course
Great layout and some really great holes. Overall good conditions but greens definitely need work or at least some growing to do. Lack of rain surely has hurt.
Greens not quite there yet.
Course is coming out of winter nicely. Greens recently aerated, but OK, just not what they will be in a couple weeks.
Great course
The rate for 18 holes on this course was comparable to lesser golf courses that were more money making this a great deal
Quirky holes on back nine
First time golfing here. Front nine was great...good pace. But when we got to the back nine....pace came to a dead stop on every hole. Back nine had a few quirky holes...water, sand, 90 degree angles. Not sure if we will come back anytime soon as we're staying in Gulf Shores.... it's over an hour away .
Slow Play
Followed a foursome the entire round who obviously noticed us waiting throughout their round but refused to allow us to play through. We were hoping they would stop at the clubhouse after the front nine but no such luck. The ladies association group behind us twice hit into us on holes 3 and 4. They must have realized their mistake on #4 because from there onward they respected our wait; one of their balls bounced once and flew between our carts parked greenside before we could even put away our putters. Lastly, the back 9 greens were abundant with unrepaired pitch marks; this is a constant issue I've noticed my two previous rounds at Stonebrook. It's frustrating when the regular players don't respect their own course; we often repair more than our own ball marks but this course needs a full-time maintenance person just to repair the ball marks where players are either too lazy or too old to repair their own marks. Right now, Stonebrook is definitely not worth their regular rate plus tax of $41+. I wouldn't recommend this course at its current rate until a marshall is put to use and the greens are corrected.
Great course
We were a party of four playing there for the first time,we had such an amazing afternoon. The layout is wonderful, the staff very friendly. Sure to come back while we are wintering here. Keep up the good work.
Good course needs rangering
There was a valentines weekend tournament but it only involved 46 golfers. One would have thought it involved 200. We started on the back to avoid the group but caught them on the front nine which took at least 3 hrs. There were kids fishing, people walking dogs, flying a drone, throwing a ball to their dog to fetch in the fairway and riding bikes on the course, even though there are signs everywhere telling them to stay off the course from 7am-6:30 pm.
We had to skip a hole to get by a clueless two some that thought 25 min./hole was a good pace.
The ranger suggested we skip a hole to get by them and then return later after he was off work to play that hole and as many others we wanted.
Course was fine but a little tune up in player and neighbor management would improve the experience.
Why so wet?
Almost all of the greens and surrounding areas were unusually wet and soggy. There has been no rain since before I played the previous week. I can only assume the sprinklers had been run to allow the greens to ice to protect them from the previous night's freeze. The greens, fringes, and approach chipping areas were very wet on almost every hole, even for our noon tee time. The course also appeared to have been quite busy since my previous outing; overwhelming number of ball marks on all greens that weren't evident the previous week. The ball marks were so numerous that putting was frustrating because of how much we had to repair pitch marks in our lines. The lack of etiquette and course appreciation from so many players are disappointing to say the least. The Hot Deals rate made the round bearable, but paying a regular rate would have added to the frustration.
Recovering from heavy rains
The course was quite spongy and wet, which was expected considering the heavy rains the previous two days. The greens were quite slow, I'm sure from a combination of the heavy rains and mowers not able to tend the course. Overall, the course was in very good shape with all things considered. Would recommend this course as it will be very playable once it has an opportunity to dry out. The course normally drains quite well, but it's hard to accommodate 6"+ of rainfall over three days.
alright course
the playing condition were not too bad. It was cart path only. however the bunkers were filled with water. We got started late because there was a large group ahead of us. I believe they were members. Two groups of 4 and two groups of 5. They would not let us go off the back 9 first. He gave me a stupid explanation. He made me feel like a nobody because I booked on golf now. If they don't like golfnow golfer why are they in the program. The other players I was with went to get some drinks for the course and the workers were very unfriendly. Other than that it was ok. I believe I was charged fees that I should not have been.
