Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
About
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club (previously known as Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club) is located at the intersection of I-75 and I-275 on exit 45 in Palmetto, less than a 30-minute drive from Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. The course was designed by Ted McAnlis around 200 beautiful wooded acres with 16 lakes. The course's signature hole, No.18 (550 yard, par 5 dog leg around Imperial Lake), is chosen year after year by local golfers as the best par 5 in southwest Florida

WeWereExpectingBetter
My husband golfed on Thanksgiving last year and couldn't wait to take me to see this beautiful course. After one hole and my obvious disappointment he said "just wait" indicating that he had high hopes that the rest of the course couldn't possibly be as rough as hole #1. By the 2nd hole he knew we wouldn't be back. If the whole course was as well maintained as the greens our review would have gone so differently.
Greens are in good shape and rolling well. This is a fun design. Staff very friendly and handled COVID19 in a safe manner. Everyone in a good mood.
Not there yet...
I live local and have played the MOC several times, even when it used to be Imperial Lakewoods. The course was in such poor shape 2 years ago, I stopped playing here. I heard there have been improvements and decided to give it another try. On the bright side, the greens are in really nice shape, they've done a great job there...but that's about it. Tee boxes were horrible, fairways are burned out and thin, rough had more weeds than grass, in most spots around the greens it was just bare dirt, the sand traps were more like hard dirt. The layout is fun with some interesting holes and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. They have done a good job of implementing safety measurements in light of Covid19, but the course itself has a long way to go in my opinion. This is a good course and conditions are improving, but it's just not there yet. If you get a hotdeal for less than 30, give it a try. Otherwise, save your money and wait another season or 2 until things improve here.
Continuous improvement.
Support The MOC during these difficult times. The continuous improvement of this course reflects a lot of effort that has been put forward over the past 2 years. Greens are in great condition.
Nice day at The Moc!
The greens are in great shape and we had a nice breeze.
Actually, with hardly any rain in the past month, the whole course looks pretty good. New golf carts with USB ports for charging phone and devises. At the turn, that had hot dogs and sandwiches available. It's one of our favorite courses... just over the Skyway from St. Pete.
Friendly staff Course is well maintained course is a little challenging greens are very fast overall a nice course
Greens Roll True
Besides the greens being OK nothing redeeming about the course. I like the layout but sad how the drought conditions have hurt the course.
I'll wait till the rains begin before I return.
They should ask the starter not to smoke on the job.
Course was challenging
Course was challenging. Has a lot of blind shots and water you don't know is there if you haven't played there. There is a map of the course on the back of the scorecard that should be looked at on each hole. Was a little high priced for the condition of the course.
Will play again
A little expensive, but course is fun to play and is in pretty good condition for the dry weather we have had
Front nine very challenging
Enjoyed the golf course, but the pace of play was brutal, twosome in front of me had one player score an 18 on a par five and did not pick up till ball was in the hole, nobody around to speed up play.
Hot deal
I have not played the course because of the price but got it on a Hot Deal through GolfNow and thoroughly enjoyed the round. It is an interesting layout with lots of water but had enough forgiveness that I didn’t feel beat up. An extremely enjoyable day.
Great Day of Golfing
2nd time playing Moccasin Wallow. Nice layout - some challenging holes. Some thin fairways due to time of season and lack of rain. Greens run fast with plenty of breaks. Water on quite a few holes - and there are alligators - we saw 6. Right off I-75 - easy access. Highly recommend Moccasin Wallow.
Excellent reclamation story
Moccasin Wallow is a great example of an in-progress golf course transformation. Owner and former Tour caddie Noah Zelnik and his staff are doing everything they can to give golfers here the best possible experience on a modest budget. So far, so good: they're focusing on making the course's greens as good as possible, and addressing everything else as able. This provides a high baseline from which Zelnik and crew are looking to improve. Having met him, I am confident they'll succeed. A good local golf course, and worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We bring a no frills approach to a very affordable product. As prices go up for cost of goods we have done our best to stay competitive in an oversaturated market. With the more play we get the more we are able to continue to make improvements. Thank you for noticing where we were, where we are, and where we will be.
Great experience
Played The Moc last year, and it was not in great condition. MUCH improved this year! Tee boxes the nicest of the courses I've played this year. Level and plenty of grass. The greens are in excellent condition; fast and true. Considering the lack of rain over the past month or so the fairways are in good condition. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially the starter and the course ranger. Looking forward to playing the course again.
THE MOC!
WOW this course is coming around.... the fairways are firm and tight, greens are running 11 (downwind down-grain probably in the 13-14 range). If you want a true test of your golf game, play THE MOC from all the way back, it will humble you! Holes 8-11 are some of the toughest holes you will ever play. DON'T BELIEVE ME.... Go find out yourself, but don't let the "Venom Den @ The MOC bite you!
An Adenture
We played at this course under very good conditions and little wind. The shop staff were not he most pleasant but they were cordial. The starter was very friendly and helpful. The course was not in the best of shape but was very playable. I played form the whites at 6100 but it plays shorter than it reads. the course is fair but you need ot look at it in depth as it does have some difficulty hidden form sight. Over all it was fine and I would play it again.
Surprised more people aren't playing here
Best value in the area during season when other courses have jacked up their rates, and it's easy to get a time and get around the course in 4 hours or less. It's clear that they've put work in to the course. For the most part it's in really good shape, particularly the tees and greens which can be fast and challenging if you find yourself on the wrong part of the green. Course can be tight in places, but it's fair and a really good test of your game.
Fun course
This is a hidden gem. Worth the 35 minute drive from St Pete. Greens and fairway are very good.
The layout was fun from the Whites and all you want if you step back to the Blues.
Grill and full bar are a bonus.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that the pace of play was not faster be we averaged just under 4 hours yesterday with 150 people crammed from 7;30 to 1 pm. we are glad that you enjoyed your day on the course otherwise.
