Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

We loved the course, couldn't afford regular tee time rates, but booked with golf now and everything was great.
Back again in 2024
First time playing in 2024. Been coming to PCB for 4 years for the winter and this is the best shape the course has been in. Will play again before we head home.
Baypoint Review
Great layout, my only issue was pace of play. They had a young group, 6 golfers, teed off in 2 groups but shortly after joined up as 6some!!! I think the starter knew they were going to join up, shame on him for letting this happen! We complained to the marshal, he split them up but said they will likely join up again which they did, question is why did the marshal not follow them! What is the point of having a marshal!! They ruined the pace for our group and all that followed, hard to understand a course of thei calibre allowing this to happen on a very busy day.
RT JONES as Merciless Architect...
Going inot the gated community...seeing the main lot full set some expectations, then the overflow needed work...and that was a harbinger of my game...lol
Super staff...small bag of range balls...great orientation by starter...then 1 Tee sets the tone of what is to come...the landing area is over water...and that too set the theme...water would be in the most interesting places...the first part 3 is all carry to the green...but the hole that will always be in memory...was the one over all marsh grass to a narrow llanding area needing a carry of 175 yds...only then to be confronted with a second shot, 90 degrees to the left to then execute another 175+ shot with virtually litte usable landing area...as the round progresed, RTJ clearly liked hiding the water hazards...over the course of the round, I hit what would be a layout shot, only to learn I contributed to the water gremlins...
In all seriousness now, the course would challenge any scratch golfer if they dont take the following seriously...look at the layout on the score card, or if you have a yardage app..use it...it will save your tally of lost balls...I realized this neat trick about on the 10 hole...better late than never...
Even after the rains and related tornado that struck PCB area, the course was draining perfectly with the fairways giving good rolls, the greens lightning fast(putt about 1/4-1/3 of the way to the cup if you want to lag properly...and yes, the RTJ greens are full of large and small undulations...with one hold below the front lip with half the flag visible...LOL
If one is unable to consistently control the ball, one will easily go throught a dozen balls as the homes along the course are private property(and do be aware, the course states clearly the golferis responsible for any and all damages to property, cars, people etc.)
The course will have you laughing in stictches, or screaming at the layout and what the Merciless Architect has done to your usual game...
I will be back to try again...my sides hurt so much form laughing at myself and what the course did...you just got to play this at least once...and if so, you'll be hooked...enjoy
Great tee box selections for all skill levels.
Great pace. Fun greens. Stay away from the water. Hit putts a little firm.
Great Course
It's such a great course for all levels of golfers, however the fact that there were three fivesomes ahead of me was really frustrating.
On a normal day slow play is expected but when there are some many per group it makes for long tedious wait times.
Great deal - had a blast
Bartender could have moved a little faster getting our drinks ready before tee off but otherwise it was a perfect round.
T-time restrictions
Being a single player I showed up early and see if they would pair me up with other groups. And I quote” since I reserved my t-time on GolfNow she didn’t think they would let me play earlier then my reserved T-time”.
Despite the fact that I watched lot of 3-some T-off. You would think they would be more flexible?
Water water everywhere
6 pars and 4 birdies and I still put 12 balls in the drink!
Nice course
Great place to play. Only issue was 8 golfers playing together. Held up everyone.
Great track in PCB
Conditions were great and the staff was great. Disappointed the range was closed that morning as I could not warm up but the starter got me paired up with a group for an earlier time. Lay out was good and you can certainly feel that Nicklaus had his hands in the redesign. If in the area, definitely give it a go.
great course and friendly staff
It was a great course and extremely friendly staff. I have never been there so I parked me truck and was walking over with my clubs. a staff member rode a cart over to great me, put my clubs on the cart and then let me know where to go and what to do. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and made my trip enjoyable. they allowed my boy to ride in the cart with me at no extra charge. some of the other courses charge for a rider. The course was challenging for me anyways, and well taken care of.
Lots of water
Bring extra golf balls on one of par 5 for a senior
It’s long distance from tee
But good thing you can move up look at card for when
Overall great condition an fun to play
Enjoyed the day!
Wide fairways for the most part! Played from #2 tee position! Great forced carries over water and marsh areas! Greens were typical Florida! Hard to make a dent with an approach shot and fast enough that you must be aware of the slope on putts!
