Course was in great condition!
Even with all the rain we’ve had lately, the Course was in great condition!
I selected a Hot Deal online to play the course. When I arrived the pro shop attendant tried to discourage me from playing: “we have a high school tournament today and they are walking...they are using two of our three nine hole courses and you will be playing slow...will take you all day. “ I said I would play the remaining nine hole course twice.
When we got to the start he said, “the course your plating is under repair...there are no tee boxes...you’ll have to tee off next to the tee boxes.”
I had prepaid the round of golf and was playing with an invited guest who drove down from another county just to play Grand Palms. Needless to say, the play was a disaster. And then, after playing two holes of the second nine, thunder and lightning struck. All.players stopped. I asked the pro shop attendant if we could get a rain check: “No, there was no rain; wait for the rain and maybe we’ll issue a rain check.”...if I had known that the course would be under such conditions I would not have purchased the round.
I have not played Grand Palms in a long time and it appears as if there has been an actual upgrade to the course and staff. Well done. Keep up the great service.
Good value for the money fairways and some green are burned out a bit.
Not So Grand....
Located next to a run-down hotel and an overpriced restaurant, this crazy-quilt, 27-hole labyrinth snakes it way through and around upscale homes, lakes, and canals. Some courses overlap each other. The fairways, tees, and greens were in generally good shape, but the mix of different types on grass in the rough provided a strong challenge around the greens. Poorly maintained bunkers were strategically placed along the fairways and around greens. I started out a pleasant, 2 1/2 hour solo round on the tight, water-laden Grand, which required sharp shot management on several holes. The Royal was less demanding, but featured a quirky, dog leg Par 5 that made a 90-degree turn around a row of houses. Oddball layouts offered disjointed golf experience from course to course. Pro shop staffer was polite, but cart attendants were less attentive. As usual in the summer, there was no beverage cart and only few water stations on the course. And unless you are into apathetic female bartenders and $6 Heinekens, skip the restaurant. Not a deal for $25.
Great Sunday of Golf
Course was in great shape. Greens ran smooth. Quick pace, 3 hour round on a Sunday can't be beat.
